Chapter 33

Author: Flower Sock
For a moment, the air went still, and the tension at the dining table thickened. Most of it came from Gregory, though it lasted only a few seconds before he returned to eating his dinner in silence.

Xander blinked and wondered if he'd said something wrong.

Natalie was the first to break the silence, sounding baffled as she mused, "I didn't think you'd find a job, Ms. Jacobson. Are you…worried that the Sinclairs can't provide for you?"

Anathea heard the provocation in Natalie's words, yet smiled and said, "Yes."

Even if the Sinclairs gave her 100 thousand dollars every month, it would take her two and a half years to come up with the money for Fiona's surgery. But Anathea didn't feel like bringing this up.

Natalie was surprised by Anathea's frankness. She went still at first but quickly regained her composure. She gave Gregory a subtle look and said, "I'm assuming you haven't told Greg about your new job, Ms. Jacobson."

Anathea didn't think telling Gregory about her new job was ne

Anathea paused, instinctively glancing at the seat she used to take. Gregory was nowhere in sight, but on the table were half-eaten bowls of ravioli and spaghetti bolognese."Huh? He was just here a moment ago," Samantha said, feeling puzzled.Anathea's eyes dimmed as she looked down. Without another word, she took the kids by the hand and turned to leave. "Let's find somewhere else to eat."Xander frowned as soon as he heard that. "But Mommy, I'm tired. I don't want to walk anymore.""If Thea says we're leaving, then we're leaving," Chloe cut in. She always listened to Anathea."Alright," Xander reluctantly agreed.Just as Anathea turned away, a strong hand pressed down on her shoulder from behind. She tensed and tried to leave, but the hand held firm, stopping her from turning around.Gregory's familiar, cool voice sounded in her ear. "I'll be leaving soon. Stay and eat here."Xander looked up, and his eyes lit up when he saw Gregory. "Daddy! You're here too?"Gregory didn

Anathea reached out her hand. "That's why we should work together. Let's help you regain the fame you once had. I want to see the dazzling queen you once were, standing proudly in the spotlight and shining with all your charm again."Hannah's eyes reddened as she looked at Anathea. After a long moment of silence, she nodded solemnly and took her hand. "Thank you, Thea."Anathea had been there for her when she was at her lowest."If you're thanking me for that, then I'd have to spend the whole night thanking you," Anathea said with a playful wink.Hannah smiled. "It's not that serious.""Of course it is," Anathea insisted. "Do you know how many years we've known each other?"Hannah thought for a moment. "Around 16 years?"Anathea gasped. "More like 16 years and three months! Hannah, how could you forget that?""Oh, come on, it's only a three-month difference. That's hardly—""Not even close! That's a big difference!""Haha, okay, okay, I admit it. Please forgive me, auntie!"

When Anathea met Chloe's hopeful gaze, something soft inside her was quietly struck. How could anyone not feel for a child as mature yet sensitive as Chloe? She opened her mouth, and a name nearly slipped out.But then, thinking of how hard Hannah had worked raising Chloe alone all these years, she hesitated.Only Hannah could decide whether or not to tell Chloe about her real father."I'm not really sure," Anathea finally said, giving a vague answer. "I only know he's supposed to be good-looking."Hannah had done her best to protect Chloe, so even though Anathea felt sorry for her, she couldn't ignore Hannah's feelings."Really?" Chloe's eyes brightened."Of course," Anathea said, gently touching Chloe's cheek. "You're so pretty, Chloe. Your dad must be handsome too.""Handsome? Like that handsome guy from before?" Chloe's eyes sparkled with hope.Anathea wasn't sure which "handsome guy" Chloe meant but just nodded. "Probably.""Well, if I asked that handsome guy to be my

Chloe hesitated, feeling a bit lost. She glanced at the others, then looked at Samuel, who was crying like a kid who just lost his favorite toy. Finally, she said, "Just have him apologize to me. That's enough.""Just an apology?" Xander asked, feeling confused.Chloe nodded. "Yeah."Samuel sniffled, forcing himself to stop crying. He stepped in front of her and choked out, "I'm sorry! I was wrong! I'm really sorry..."Chloe pressed her lips together and said nothing. Even though Samuel had apologized, she had no intention of forgiving him.Seeing that the matter was mostly resolved, Emily stepped forward to smooth things over. "This was my oversight, and I sincerely apologize to both of you. I'll make sure to keep a closer eye on Samuel from now on so he won't cause trouble again."She then crouched down in front of Chloe and said sincerely, "I'm sorry, Chloe. I misunderstood you earlier.""It's fine," Chloe replied, though her expression clearly showed she wasn't in the mood.

Hannah looked at Anathea's side profile, feeling a surge of emotions at once—surprise, a bit of shock, but more than anything, gratitude and relief. She'd known Anathea for so many years. She'd always known that Anathea had an unyielding spirit beneath her gentle demeanor. It was just that after marriage, Anathea's sharp edges had been worn down quite a bit.But now, that version of Anathea—the one with fire and attitude—was finally back."Anathea!" Shirley roared, clutching her burning cheek. Her eyes were blazing with fury. "I only gave you a little leeway because you're Mr. Sinclair's wife! Don't push your luck!"She was the dignified eldest daughter of the Watson family, treated with reverence her whole life. She had never been slapped."You should say that to yourself. Don't push your luck," Anathea replied without the slightest shift in tone."You!" Furious, Shirley raised her hand, wanting to slap Anathea back. But before she could get anywhere near Anathea, Hannah caught

Chloe always came in first in equestrian lessons and all kinds of sports, so if she hit someone, it must really hurt."S-Stay away from me! I'm not scared of you!" Samuel shouted, but he kept backing up as Chloe stepped closer and closer. In a panic to run, Samuel accidentally tripped over his own feet, stumbled, and fell forward.Chloe was startled and instinctively reached out to grab his clothes, but just as her hand brushed his shirt, there was a dull thud. Samuel's chin hit the edge of the table, and blood started pouring from the wound.Samuel immediately burst into loud sobs. "You pushed me!""No, I didn't—" Chloe was about to explain when Emily rushed in, running to Samuel."Samuel, are you alright?""Ms. Garcia… she hit me." Samuel pointed straight at Chloe."Ms. Garcia—" Chloe started. But Emily cut her off coldly, "Chloe, come to the office with me."The video ended there, and everyone in the room wore different expressions. The one sweating the most was undoubted
