Chapter 2

Nina used to be afraid to even step on an ant. Yet now, she could bring herself to abort a baby, all for that ridiculous favor.

Thinking about how my parents' hopes had turned into grief and despair still made my heart ache.

I swallowed my anger, got to my feet, and stepped away from her. "Nina, we're never having another child."

Nina seemed to think I was throwing a tantrum. She wrapped her arms around my neck and held out her phone for me to see.

"Alright, come on. Stop being upset. I booked a seven-day trip to Monthis. You can take your parents and go relax. I… Something came up at work. I can't leave."

I stared at her without any emotion.

Something came up at work, and she couldn't leave? Nina couldn't even be bothered to come up with a decent excuse.

Did she really think that just because she'd blocked me from seeing her posts, I wouldn't know she'd been busy picking out a birthday gift for Mike?

I shoved her away in disgust. "No need. You should save that trip for you and Mike."

Nina's face immediately darkened. She finally lost her patience, looking at me with hurt in her eyes. “Andrew, what the hell do you mean by that?”

It was ridiculous. She was the one who'd done something so shameless, yet somehow she was acting like I was the one who'd wronged her.

I didn't want to argue with her anymore. I took the divorce papers I'd prepared from my bag and set them on the table. "Nothing. I wish you and Mike happiness. Let's get a divorce."

Nina stared at me in disbelief. When she finally came back to her senses, she yelled, "Andrew, are you crazy? You're divorcing me over something this trivial? I'm just having a baby for him. It's not like we'd have to do that many times.

"How can you not show even a little understanding? What kind of man are you?"

I was so pissed I actually laughed.

So by her logic, one couldn't be a true man unless he let his wife have another man's child.

I looked at the woman I'd once loved with all my heart, and seeing what she'd become now made me seriously wonder if I'd been blind back then.

But maybe this was a good thing. The more she acted like this, the more determined I became to end this relationship.

"Since you think I'm not a man, go find one who is and be with him. Sign the papers already, so I don't end up being the one who comes between the two of you."

Nina flew into a rage and tore the divorce papers to pieces. "Who says you can just decide to get a divorce? Andrew, listen up. Don't even think about it. I will never agree to a divorce!"

With that, she stormed into the bedroom and slammed the door shut.

I would've backed down in a situation like this before, even if I knew I wasn't in the wrong. Love had a way of making people lose their sense of pride.

But this time, I didn't care anymore.

Nina was the beauty of our class back in college, with countless guys chasing after her, and I was just a poor kid from the countryside, with none of the family connections Mike had.

They were the perfect couple in everyone's eyes, and I was practically invisible.

Then, Mike's parents arranged a marriage for him, and that was the end of their relationship.

Heartbroken, Nina confessed her feelings to me in front of everyone. I knew I was nothing more than a pawn she was using to get back at Mike, but I still couldn't stop myself from saying yes.

Then, Mike went abroad to continue his studies, and the two of them gradually lost touch.

Maybe she'd fallen for me because of how much I loved her, or maybe she'd finally accepted reality. Either way, she started putting her heart into our relationship.

After we graduated, I didn't let her down. I worked day and night and eventually made something of myself, and we got married.
