Chapter 7: You Are Responsible

Elizabeth Black had thoroughly teased Rupert Washington last night, which was incredibly satisfying.

The young master, full of youthful vigor, only calmed down after taking a cold shower.

After that, Elizabeth Black didn't dare to move anymore.

Her head felt heavy and dizzy, and she kept having fragmented dreams, making it a restless night.

Elizabeth Black went to work with dark circles under her eyes.

A few minutes before clocking in, her colleagues were huddled together, chattering about something.

When Stacey Charley saw Elizabeth Black approaching, she hurriedly told her, "Elizabeth, I heard our hospital is going to build a new campus this year!"

Their hospital was a Class 3B hospital, and its inability to upgrade to Class 3A was largely due to the outdated hardware facilities.

So, the new campus had been in the planning for a while.

"We must strive to stay here!" Elizabeth Black and Stacey Charley, both interns, encouraged each other.

Just as they finished their pep talk, a large group of people walked over.

On the left was their vice president, and on the right was the most senior director of their medical aesthetics department.

That tall, elegant man, dressed in a casual suit, looking relaxed, who looked so much like her husband?

Elizabeth Black blinked, then widened her eyes.

Stacey Charley, standing beside her, clearly noticed too.

She exclaimed, "Oh my god!" and tugged at Elizabeth Black, "Elizabeth! It's him! It's him!"

"Rupert Washington," Elizabeth Black said.

Stacey Charley: "Right! Why is he here? And with our leaders!"

Rupert Washington was a legendary figure in school; it was said that girls formed groups just to see him in his class.

And recently, their department had been gossiping about Rupert Washington and Nydia Leighton, so Stacey Charley was particularly excited to see him.

"He's like a celestial being descended from heaven!" Stacey Charley exclaimed.

Elizabeth Black: "..."

"I'm going to the outpatient clinic," she quickly turned around, covering her face.

Last night, in a moment of impulsiveness, she had asked Rupert Washington to pick her up, intending to make their relationship public.

Now, in the light of day, she no longer wanted to.

She didn't want everyone whispering behind her back, calling her a substitute.

They were discussing the construction plans.

Rupert Washington was already in front of them.

Elizabeth Black started to walk away, but after a few steps, she heard Rupert Washington say, "The female doctors in your medical aesthetics department are quite pretty."

Elizabeth Black covered her mouth and pulled her away.

Behind them, the director was joking with Rupert Washington, "Of course, our medical aesthetics department has the most attractive doctors and nurses, and most of them are unmarried!"

"Unmarried?" Rupert Washington stared at Elizabeth Black's back, "Oh, really."

He was here today to conduct research for the project. Designing a hospital required comprehensive research and understanding. The medical aesthetics department was just a stopover, but seeing Elizabeth Black run like a mouse from a cat, Rupert Washington told the director, "I'm a bit thirsty. Can I sit in your department for a while and take a look around?"

He also wanted to see the little mouse's work environment and state.

The director and vice president naturally agreed and gave Rupert Washington free rein.

After returning to the office, Stacey Charley spread the news that "Rupert Washington came to our department and took a fancy to Elizabeth Black."

Elizabeth Black was exasperated and wished she could grab a feather duster and beat her.

"I didn't make it up, I heard it with my own ears!" Stacey Charley insisted, vividly.

Then she encouraged Elizabeth Black, "Didn't you joke yesterday that Rupert Washington is your husband? Why don't you go for it? Maybe next time, Rupert Washington will really come to pick you up in a Maserati!"

Elizabeth Black burst out laughing.

"Maybe it's possible," she said seriously.

She then picked up the disinfectant and went out, preparing to help the attending doctor in the outpatient clinic.

Unexpectedly, as soon as she stepped out, a shadow loomed over her.

She had already taken a step and couldn't stop, crashing right into him.

With a clatter, the tweezers and cotton swabs in her hand fell to the ground.

The familiar scent of laundry detergent, the same one she used, with a light fruity fragrance, filled her nose.

Elizabeth Black looked up and was caught by Rupert Washington's eyes.

Coming to her senses, she found her hand already held in Rupert Washington’s.

He smiled lightly, looking down at her flustered state.

She quickly pulled her hand back.

The next second, the doctors in the office, hearing the noise, poked their heads out to ask what happened.

Seeing Rupert Washington clearly, everyone gasped.

Stacey Charley rushed out, pulling Elizabeth Black, and said to Rupert Washington, "Hello, Senior Ling. Elizabeth and I are both from Harvard University. We’ve heard about you before!"

Rupert Washington looked at Elizabeth Black meaningfully. Elizabeth Black's mind went blank, and after a long pause, she managed to say, "Yes."

Rupert Washington narrowed his eyes, a hint of danger in his voice, "What yes?"

Not even acknowledging her husband.

Was it because he didn't pick her up last night?

Stacey Charley, noticing that Rupert Washington seemed a bit angry, saw the disinfectant on his clothes.

She pushed Elizabeth Black, "Elizabeth, why don't you take Senior Ling to the changing room to clean up?"

Rupert Washington continued to stare at Elizabeth Black, saying, "Let's go. Since you made a mess, you should take responsibility."

Elizabeth Black, with her head down, led Rupert Washington to the changing room.

She felt there was more to his words than met the eye.
