Charlotte’s pov

I came back from the bar after meeting with Dr. Lennox. I was feeling good. I had done what I needed to do. He would listen to me sooner or later. He always did.

But as I entered the house, my good mood quickly dropped.

Edward was at the front door, already dressed for work. He was fixing his cufflinks. I saw his tie was a little crooked, so I smiled and walked closer to him.

“Let me help you,” I said gently, reaching for his tie.

I tried to straighten it, just like I used to. Just like a wife would.

But Edward stepped back.

He didn’t say a word.

He didn’t even look at me.

He just moved past me, opened the door, and walked out.

The door closed behind him.

I stood there frozen, my hand still in the air.

That feeling… I hated it. Like I was invisible. Like I meant nothing.

I slowly put my hand down and walked back inside. My heart was racing. Not because I loved him. No. I didn’t even know what love was anymore.

But I hated being ignored.

I hated being treated like I was

  • Winning My Ex Wife   Chapter 33

Edward’s povIt was late in the evening. I was in my study. The golden lamp on my table was throwing a soft beam on the sparse documents and the unattended cup of coffee. The house was dead silent, too silent to my liking. Charlotte had taken Carmen with her to the room and I had got some time for myself after a long time, to sort things out in my head.I tilted against the hard back of my leather chair and pressed both hands against my eyes, rubbing them slowly as if by doing so would help alleviate the problem I was having. But then before giving up; before everything went black inside me, there were two buzzes from my phone. For a second or two I blinked at it nonchalantly. It was an unsaved number. Not waiting for a second ring, I picked up, I got up from the chair, and shuffled to the door. Slowly I turned the lock. It was essential that no one came in, especially Charlotte. I had to have this call alone and for some reason, I felt like it was an important one. A very important

  • Winning My Ex Wife   Chapter 32

Edward’s povWe got back home that evening. I was so mad at her that I couldn’t even say anything to her.I could feel her staring at me but I didn’t care.I got back and heard Carmen playing in her room but I walked to the living room and turned to face Charlotte. I was mad.I started to laugh at first while the pain hit me.She was confused as to why I was laughing.“You know the funny thing is that I actually believed… just for a moment… that perhaps you had changed.”Her face drained of color. “Edward, don’t—”I held up a hand to stop her. “Don’t beg. Don’t explain. Just listen.” She swallowed and nodded her head.“Bloody fool,” I said, and paced a bit. “A complete bloody twit to let you back in—back into my life. To think maybe. Maybe time had made you better. Wiser.”She tried to tooth me as I stepped back. "Don't touch me. Don't come near me." She started to cry. “Edward…”“I want you to get out of this house and my life at once.”“Edward, please—don’t do this. I’m pregnant… a

  • Winning My Ex Wife   Chapter 31

Edward’s povI stood outside the office door, just about to head into the hallway when I heard voices. Charlotte’s voice. And Dr. Lennox’s.At first, I didn’t want to listen. I was tired, angry, and confused about my illness. But then I heard my name—and I paused.I leaned in closer. As much as I was confused as to why she was here, I didn’t like the part where she had to be here. It wasn’t her business to be here.I tried to tell myself that she was here to see my doctor but I kept my calm.I would just listen to what she would say and know if she was truly as good as she said she was. Maybe she had changed. My mind tried to tell me she had but I guessed she had. However, the words that followed made my body freeze.Charlotte was telling him to increase my medication. Not because I was getting worse. Not because the treatment had changed.No.She wanted me to be weak. Sick. Helpless. Her exact words were, “I need him sick so he’ll depend on me.”I didn’t breathe. I couldn’t even move

  • Winning My Ex Wife   Chapter 30

Charlotte’s povThe moment I got to dr Lennox’s office, I knocked as he opened up and panicked when he saw me.“You shouldn’t be here,” he muttered as he looked around, looking for someone or anyone to be afraid of.“What are you talking about?”I entered and shut the door behind as he went to stand before me“Charlotte, what do you want?” he snapped.I smiled and rolled my eyes.“Oh relax. I am not here to threaten you. I’m only here to know how his treatments are going?”“Since when did you care about Edward?”“Since I knew that killing him would leave his money to me.”“You shouldn’t be here,” he repeated. “Edward is in the building right now, if he or anyone else sees you I can only imagine the questions it will raise.”I looked away for a moment and thought before turning back to him. “I know but I’m smart about it. I made sure he didn’t see me. I just need to talk to you.”He sighed and finally sat back down, rubbing his forehead like I was actually giving him a headache.“I ho

  • Winning My Ex Wife   Chapter 29

Edward’s povI hadn’t told Charlotte anything before stepping out of the house. But I knew that I needed to be out of here without her knowing where I was going.I was tired.Tired of her voice.Sick of the screams. I hated acting like it was okay even when it wasn’t but it wasn’t like I would do anything with her. My past with her was a bad one.I felt a sharp pain as I got into my car. I shook my head and looked at the drugs in the cup holder as I looked away.I turned the key and went to the one place that had been the very last on my list for days. The hospital. Not just any hospital. The one where my doctor, Lennox, works. After all, it was the only place I went for my treatment and he was the only doctor I’ve trusted for years. I doubted he would do anything bad to me.When I arrived at the hospital, I parked and walked in. Some of the nurses said hello. I nodded my head and didn’t speak back because I wasn’t in the mood to speak.First, I took the elevator to the third floor w

  • Winning My Ex Wife   Chapter 28

Charlotte’s povI drove to Carmen’s school feeling good. I could feel the dress hugging my body in all the right places. I needed to look good. I didn’t know who I would meet that would take me away from Edward. I wasn’t his until he had done the bare minimum. For now, he was just the random guy who would be my backup. Until then, I would be faithful to him or whatever. It wasn’t like I had a choice. As I got out of the car, I could see so many people looking at me. But I didn’t mind. They would have to start getting used to seeing me like this. With a smile on my face, I walked into the school as people turned to me.Heads turned, and I enjoyed the attention.I reached the classroom and saw Carmen sitting quietly. She was drawing something again, probably her usual flowers. She looked happy to see me.“Mama!” she called and waved.Oh my dear. She was so precious to me. I would do anything to keep her safe.I walked in as one of the teachers stepped up to me in an aggressive way whic
