~Unknown~ When the young wolf woke from his comfortable slumber, he was surprised to find his captors never found him. His days of freedom had been exhilarating, but the best moments were watching the sunrise and set. ~Tessa~ The night sky cast a moonlit shadow over the packhouse, illuminating Tessa's bedroom with a calm sense of tranquility. She slept peacefully beside Dainin, but her few hours of serenity didn't last long when a mind link from Zander woke her from a dead sleep. "We just received an alert of a trespasser crossing our border to the north. I'm taking some warriors with me to check it out. We may not return until this afternoon," he informed her. "Wonderful, let Cadence know when you're coming back. I want her to meet you halfway. Be careful," Tessa ordered, frustration filling her chest. Rogues rarely crossed her borders, but Zander recently discovered rumors were spreading that Blue Ridge was weak after the fight. Now it seemed some wolves were ready to test that theory. “Let them challenge us. They’ll quickly regret it,” her wolf growled. Yearning for a distraction, Tessa pressed against Dainin and gently blew over his mark. Excitement warmed her body when he began to stir.

She knew something like this could have happened before she was even appointed Alpha. “Surely my father or John would have noticed,” she questions, but just thinking of that traitorous, vile man caused anger to erupt inside her. He wouldn't have cared if a pack member went missing, or worse, he could have been involved and covered it up. ~Tessa~Ingrid was struck silent with fear as she stared into Tessa’s dark eyes. Tessa felt her struggling to breathe beneath the grip she held around her neck, but she didn’t care. With every silent second that passed, Tessa tightened her hold ever so slightly. “Let her go,” Sonia pleaded behind her. “Looks like Elijah’s gone soft,” her wolf growled knowing he was the only one who would have removed the cloth from her mouth. “Answer my question, or your mother dies,” Tessa growled, keeping her eyes locked with Ingrid’s, whose face resembled a cherry. “He wasn’t held prisoner with me. I had no idea he even existed, and I’m sure my mother would have mentioned him already if she knew they had someone from your pack,” Sonia defended her mother, but Tessa saw the truth in Ingrid’s eyes. The intensity left Dainin’s muscles aching from their run, but it was exhilarating to see both packs push themselves to their limits. Tessa’s morals and patience was truly engrained in all of her warriors and their fortitude quickly rubbed off on his own pack members. They were motivated and excited to have a purpose and he was proud of their progress. Stretching his arms overhead, a chill of desire rushed through Dainin’s body. “It seems we caught someone’s attention,” his wolf purred, but Dainin forced himself to appear unbothered. He wanted Tessa to believe she was getting away with ogling over his body from afar, but once inside the packhouse, he became a blur, running through the halls.
