Chapter 2: The Contract

"Hello Dr," Aiden said as soon as he answered the call.

"She is awake," Dr Jerome said

"What!" Aiden exclaimed.

"I am coming back home," Aiden said and disconnected the call.

He shut his laptop down and called Lewis. There was a knock on the door and Lewis entered. Aiden handed his laptop and bag to him and they both exited the office. Aiden handed over to his next in command, Julian and exited the hotel with Lewis leading the way.

"We are going back home," Aiden said as he sat in the car's back seat.

Lewis got behind the wheel and brought the engine to life. He drove out of the hotel compound heading back to the Estate in Beverly Hills. On the way, Aiden tried to call his mother, Mrs Scott, multiple times but she didn't answer. He called his sister Ruth and got the same results. He called his father, Mr Scott and he also didn't answer.

"What is happening at home? Why are they all not answering their calls?" Aiden thought and tried his mother's number one more time and this time she answered.

"Aiden, I hope you are on your way. Look, I am busy right now. I will see you when you come," Mrs Scott said excitedly and ended the call not allowing Aiden, who kept saying 'Mum" to say anything.

The car drove into the compound and Aiden got out of the car heading into his apartment. Dr Jerome was in the living room about to head upstairs when Angela opened the door for Aiden to enter.

"What the heck happened? You said she will not wake until this whole thing is over," Aiden questioned.

"Yes, with the medications we were feeding her, she was not supposed to but the human body is complex. She just reacted differently," Dr Jerome explained as they both climbed the staircase heading for Ana's room.

Angela was in the house but was not privy to what was happening upstairs. She was not allowed there and she respected the master so much that she never went there because he said so but now she is curious about what was happening upstairs.

"Can she be put back into a coma? I don't have time to explain what happened to her," Aiden said.

"I am not sure about inducing another coma," Dr Jerome said.

"Why?" Aiden asked once they were both in front of Ana's room.

"It could result in her death and the baby will be gone with her," Dr Jerome said before turning the doorknob.

They both entered and found Ana on the bed with her eyes closed.

"I thought you said she was awake?" Dr Jerome asked the nurse and went closer to Ana's bed to examine her.

"Yes, she woke up and was very aggressive. So I gave her a sedative," the nurse replied.

"Okay, I will take it from here," Dr Jerome said and examined Ana and also checked on the baby.

"She is fine and the baby is fine," Dr Jerome said.

"I will be in my office. When she wakes up again, call me," Aiden said and exited the room.

Aiden requested a cup of coffee and took it to his office. He sat on the sofa and wondered if he should tell Ana exactly what happened or tell her something that made sense. He thought for a while and decided he would not make that his headache. He turned on his laptop and decided to get some work done.

The day slowly passed and it was soon 4. p.m. Dr Jereome knocked on Aiden's office door gently. He opened and entered when he heard the invitation to come inside.

"She is awake," Dr Jerome said.

Aiden got up from behind his desk and exited the office with Dr Jerome heading to Ana's room. They both entered and the doctor called the nurse out.

"Ana Morrison, I know you have a lot of questions on your mind but I will make this simple for you and expect the same in return," Aiden said expressionless.

Ana just sat on the bed staring at the strange man in a blue-black tuxedo standing at the foot of her bed.

"Your mother signed a surrogate contract and brought you to me," Aiden said.

"You are lying. My mother will do no such thing without telling me," Ana said.

"I don't care about what your mother will and will not do. But don't call me a liar again. I believe you can read. So when you are free go through it," Aiden said and tossed an envelope onto the bed which fell on the bed beneath Ana's foot.

"That is your copy. The other copy is with your mother. That is my child you are carrying and I don't want any harm to come to my child. Do you understand?" Aiden said authoritatively and Ana just looked at him in silence.

"You are not supposed to come out of this room without permission. You have a nurse and a doctor here to attend to you till you put to bed. You don't have to worry about anything. Once the child is born, you are free to go," Aiden said and Ana just stared at him in silence.

"Now you be a good girl. If you have any questions. There is a phone in the drawer. You can call your mother and ask her. If you try anything funny, you will have the baby in prison. Don't dare me," Aiden said and Ana frowned.

Aiden exited the room after delivering his speech which didn't make any sense to Ana. Ana picked up the envelope which was lying at the foot of the bed beneath her foot and brought out the contents. It was a two-page contract. She read everything and her eyes widened. Aiden wasn't lying, her mother's signature was on the contract.

"Why will Mum do this to me?" Ana thought going through the contract.

Ana's eyes widened looking at the amount of money involved. At the bottom of the contract was her mother's signature and that of her younger sister, signing on her behalf.

"Did my mum receive that amount of money and what for?" Ana thought and got down from the bed.

She went to the drawer and there was a phone inside the drawer. She turned it on, dialled her mother's number and brought the phone to her ears waiting for her mother to answer.

Outside her room, Aiden was heading back to his office when his phone rang. He looked at the caller ID and answered the call.

"Hey love," came the voice of Monica.

"Hey babe, how are you doing?" Aiden said.

"I am doing very well. I just called to let you know I will not be coming over this weekend. We have a shoot in Canada. I just signed a contract with a new agency," Monica said on the call.

"Congratulations, my love," Aiden said as he entered his office.

"How is our baby doing?" Monica asked.

"It is a boy. We will see him in six months," Aiden replied.

"Hmm, I wanted a girl," Monica whined.

"Well, I can't do much about that," Aiden said sitting behind his desk.

Monica is Aiden's wife and although Aiden's parents didn't like her, there was nothing Aiden wouldn't do for her. She had told Aiden, she couldn't carry a child and hence the option of a surrogate mother.

"Love, I have to go now. I just called to check on you and let you know I will not come over this weekend. I will see you within the week. I hope your family will be willing to accept me then," Monica said.

"I am working on that," Aiden said.

"I love you, kisses," Monica said and ended the call before Aiden could reply.

"I love you too," Aiden said looking at the blank screen of his phone.

Back in Ana's room, her mother answered the call.

"Mum, it is me, Ana. I am in some strange environment, pregnant and holding a contract with your signature and Alice's signature for me to be a surrogate mother for some crazy ass stone-cold man," Ana said in one breath.

"Ana, I will come visit you and explain things to you myself. I wanted to handle this with your sister quietly but I think you need to know," replied Mrs Morrison.

"Mum, is everything alright?" Ana asked reading the sadness in her mother's voice.

She got such a kind heart because I wouldn't be asking my mom if she was alright after finding out she sold me off to be a surrogate without my permission
