Wonderings: What's Mine is Mine

[Kael]

“She’s not going with you because she’s having dinner with me.” They both looked in my direction. Terrence’s eyes held anger in them.

“What are you doing here?” He asked. He held Amelia’s arm and pulled her towards him. He’s pissing me off.

“I’m here to pick up my assistant. What are you doing here?” I asked him back. He walked in front of Amelia as if he’s protecting her from me. This nosy rat. What does he think he’s doing to Amelia?

“It’s after office hours. She’s not your assistant once she leaves your office. I’m here to take her to dinner.” I looked at Amelia and she was avoiding my gaze. I walked up to Terrence and punched him. Amelia was surprised.

“Terrence!” She shouted. Tch, why is she sympathizing with this loser? I grabbed her arm and pulled her to my car. She didn’t struggle but she kept glancing back at Terrence. I opened the car door and pushed her inside. I went around and got inside the car as well. I started the engine and drove off. She was silent the whole ride. She seems to speak a lot when she’s with Terrence, why isn’t she talking to me?

“So you’re just going to stay quiet the whole ride?” I asked impatiently. She looked surprised but she still didn’t talk. I stopped by the side of the road.

“Stay away from Terrence. You have no business associating with the likes of him.” I warned her. She didn’t look at me and she didn’t answer. I was getting frustrated. I grabbed her arm tightly.

“Are you ignoring me?” She shook her head. I tightened my grip and she winced. I held her face and made her look at me. Looking at her face this close, I noticed that she’s gotten paler. Her lips weren’t as red and plump as before.

“Are you trying to make me angry?” I asked. She looked at me.

“N-No…” Finally she spoke. My impatience got the better of me. I kissed her aggressively. She wasn’t responding to my kisses making me angry. I bit her lip and I pulled away. I pushed her away from me. She held her lip. It’s bleeding.

“Get out.” I said. It’s no fun when she’s not responding to me. She used to respond to me every time I kiss her. Maybe she prefers to kiss that rat. She looked at me, confused.

“Didn’t you hear me? I said get out!” She did what I told her. The moment she stepped out, I drove off leaving her. I don’t know where I left her. I was just driving aimlessly. Anyway, I don’t care. She knows how to get home by herself. I went back to my mansion. I opened the tracking app on my phone and I tracked her.

Ah she’s by X Street which is really far from the apartment. Her tracker seems to be slow. Is she walking back? Why doesn’t she just hail a cab? Suddenly, the rain had started to pour. The rain was going down really hard. There must be a storm coming. I checked the tracker and she’s still walking. Is she an idiot? It’s raining heavily yet she’s not looking for shelter. I dialed one of my drivers’ numbers.

“Pick up Amelia. I’ll send you the address.” I hung up and sent her location. A few minutes later and her tracker went a little faster. She arrived at her apartment and her tracker stayed there. I decided to give her a call. No answer. I tried calling multiple times but she’s still not answering. She must be ignoring me. Whatever, she’s home now anyway, what do I need to care about?

The morning after, I had a meeting with Grimes Corporation. My father and grandfather are very unhappy about the relationship I have with the company so I have no choice but to cooperate. I just hate seeing that Terrence in my company. I’m sure he’ll be looking for Amelia.

When I arrived at the office, Amelia wasn’t at her desk. Maybe she’s late. How irresponsible of her. My meeting with Terrence will be at 10 am. It’s almost 9:30 and Amelia isn’t here yet. Why the hell is that girl taking so long? I checked my tracker and it displayed Amelia’s location. She’s still in the apartment. Is she not coming? She knows I have a meeting with Grimes Corporation today. Maybe she’s avoiding that rat. How loyal of her.

I heard a knock on my office door. I don’t know why I felt disappointed when it wasn’t Amelia. Why am I even thinking of her?

“Sir, Mr. Terrence Grimes is here.” She said.

“Let him in.” She nodded and opened the door for Terrence. This arrogant son of a bitch.

“Kael.” He said coldly. I smirked at him.

“Terrence, have a seat. Let’s discuss business.” He sat in one of the chairs in front of my desk.

“I heard your old man is giving you a hard time about your refusal to cooperate.” He said mockingly. If you weren’t part of the Grimes family, I’d have you beaten by now.

“You’re treading in dangerous waters Terrence. I suggest you refrain from mentioning my family. You’re here for business, specifically the partnership of Grimes Corporation and DRIVEA.” I said. He looked at me with a smirk on his face. I was about to hand over the contract when I heard a knock on the door.

“Come in.” I said. Just then, Amelia walked in with a tray of coffee and pastries. She had her hair down and I noticed that she looked beautiful. Even more beautiful than usual. I looked at Terrence and his gaze followed Amelia. She placed the tray on my desk. She didn’t say a word. After setting down the refreshments, she turned on her heel and was about to walk out when Terrence grabbed her arm.

He whispered something to her. I couldn’t hear what he was saying. How dare he hold Amelia like that in my office? I slammed my fist on the desk. They both looked at me.

“Amelia, get out. NOW!” She looked at me and nodded and went outside. Terrence looked at me, disgust clear on his face.

“Why do you do that to her? You think she’s just some girl that can’t feel anything? You’re disgusting, how do you even sleep at night knowing you’re abusing an innocent girl like that?” Terrence spouted. Innocent? Hah! He doesn’t even know.

“That’s none of your business how I treat my employees. And who are you calling innocent? You don’t even know her and you want to vouch for her? How pathetic.” I saw him clench his fists.

“I know damn well why she can’t leave this place. You’re holding her against her will in here just because a girl dumped you and told you that she’d rather you date Amelia than her. You don’t even know Amelia's side of the story and yet you abuse her like she wanted that to happen to you. Now who’s pathetic?” He answered. I couldn’t hold my anger in. I went up to Terrence and grabbed him by his collar.

“What do you know about what happened? Did Amelia tell you? She’s a liar and a manipulator. You don’t know anything so stop interfering.” I was about to punch him but he punched me first. I was knocked back by his punch.

“Do you know why she left you? It’s because of your bad attitude. I’m taking Amelia away from this place.” I held my face.

“You have no right to tell me what to do. Amelia’s not leaving this company.” I stood firm. She’s mine. I won’t let anyone else have her.

“She could leave anytime. Do you know why she hasn’t left yet? It’s because she still loves you despite your horrible attitude and abusive ways. Despite that, you still have the gall to play with her emotions like that. You’re a sick fuck.” I refuse to believe the words coming out of Terrence’s mouth but something inside tells me he’s telling the truth.

“It’s not love. It’s guilt. She’s guilty about what she’s done and it’s holding her back.” Terrence clenched and unclenched his fists. His eyes held so much anger in them. If looks could kill.

Terrence restrained himself and he turned his back on me.

“This little feud of ours has nothing to do with the partnership. Just send me the contract and I’ll sign it.” He was calm and composed. He walked out of my office. I bet he’s talking to Amelia right now. I walked out after him and saw him standing by Amelia’s desk. I watched his movements. Amelia wasn’t at her desk. Where is she?

“Excuse me, where’s Amelia?” Terrence asked one of my employees.

“Oh, she left. She said she wasn’t feeling well and she couldn’t work so she went home.” The employee answered. Terrence took out his phone and walked to the elevator. Since when did he get Amelia’s number? I decided to follow him. I waited for a few minutes before going down the elevator. When I arrived in the garage, I saw Terrence’s car leaving. I entered my car and followed him. I knew it. He was on his way to Amelia’s apartment.

When he got there, he went straight in. I followed him and saw him outside Amelia’s apartment door. He knocked but no one answered.

“You can’t just leave her alone, can’t you?” I pushed him out of the way. I banged on the door but still no answer.

“What are you even doing here? You said it yourself, you don’t care about her. So why bother coming here to check on her?” Terrence asked. I’m really getting tired of hearing his voice.

“Would you just mind your own business? You’re here, why can’t I be? Who even are you in her life?” I asked.

“I’m her friend and unlike you, I care about her.” He answered. I scoffed at his remark. Why would you care for someone like her?

“What are you two doing here?” We both turned around and saw Amelia. I saw Terrence was about to walk closer to Amelia but I blocked him.

“Why did you go home? Don’t you have work to do?” I asked. She looked down. She was carrying a paper bag with her. Terrence grabbed my arm and pulled me back.

“What’s wrong with you? Can’t you see she’s sick? How are you?” He held Amelia’s hand as he asked that. I grabbed his arm and pulled it away from Amelia. He has no right to touch her like that. We both looked at each other with an intense gaze. I noticed at the corner of my eye that Amelia was walking away.

“Hey, where are you going?” I called out to her but she didn’t stop. She ran out of the building and into the street. Terrence and I looked at each other and we both decided to follow her. When we got out of the building, we could see her running away. She’s fast. Why is she running away? Where is she planning to go? We ran after her but she had a good distance between us.

“Amelia!” Terrence called out to her but she still didn’t stop. Suddenly she turned to a corner. We ran as fast as we could but when we turned, we couldn’t see her anymore.

“Where did she go?” Terrence asked. Tch, I have no time to waste on her.

“I’m going back to the company. I have no time to waste on this game she’s playing.” I turned my back but I was stopped by Terrence.

“You don’t even care about her. Why don’t you just let her leave?” I pushed past him.

“Because she’s mine.” I answered. Terrence grabbed my arm and I turned to look at him. Anger in his eyes was imminent.

“Don’t treat her like she’s an object you can just own. Just watch me take her away from the likes of you.” He let me go. He ran down the street from the corner. I’d like to see you try.

I went back to my car and drove back to the company. When I got there, I went through my day like nothing happened. I checked my watch and it was already 6pm. I went back to my mansion but when I got there; my father was waiting for me.

“Dad, why are you here?” As soon as he heard my voice, he stood up from where he was sitting.

“I’m here to discuss something with you.” He said. I sat on one of the chairs in front of him.

“What do you want to talk about?” I asked. He sat back down and looked at me.

“I heard that you had a meeting with Terrence today. How did it go? Did you manage to get him to sign to the partnership?” He asked. I shook my head.

“He said he’ll have to look it over. But I’m sure he’s going to sign it.” I answered.

“That’s good then.” He said. Why do I feel like he’s up to something?

“When Terrence signs the contract, I want you to fire your assistant. I already hired someone to replace her. This partnership will open up a new era of projects and most of it will be confidential. I hired this assistant myself so she’ll be trustworthy.” He explained. What?! Is he insane?

“Why do I have to fire my assistant? She’s been my assistant for 3 years now. I can trust her.” I unconsciously raised my voice.

“Fire her or I will.” He said angrily. I can’t disagree with him. I bet Terrence had something to do with this. I excused myself and went to my room.
