Chapter 1

"Congratulations! The lottery ticket ending in 69420 has successfully hit the top prize this period. Your payout is ten million dollars!"

Looking at that massive string of zeros on my phone screen, I was so pumped I could jump around in joy!

"I’m rich! I never have to act like a corporate slave for that balding boss of mine ever again! Luxury cars, exclusive clubs, a massive mansion... I've finally made it!"

In my pure excitement, I chugged a huge gulp of beer. Just as I was about to jump onto my bed to pull off a celebratory backflip, my foot slipped right on a stray rolling beer bottle.

The back of my head slammed hard into the rusty corner of my metal desk.

A wave of agonizing pain hit me, and my vision went completely black.

Dammit! I hadn't even cashed out my ten million dollars yet!

...

"Master! Lord Valerius, please wake up! Your father just died on the battlefield. If something happens to you too, House Valerius will be done for!"

A frantic, loud shaking pulled me back from the dark void.

I forced my eyes open. What caught my attention was an elegant-looking but incredibly rundown ceiling, alongside a servant in historical clothing who wept so hard his face was a total mess.

Suddenly, a massive flood of memories that didn't belong to me rushed into my brain.

Alden Empire. The only son of the Grand Protector of House Valerius. He even shared the exact same name as me, Asher Valerius.

Unfortunately, the original owner of this body was a total deadbeat, a spoiled brat who was an absolute failure at both academics and martial arts.

His father had just been ambushed and killed by an enemy army at the border. Yet before his body had turned cold, his political rival—the powerful prime minister—had already sent local thugs to their front door to squeeze them dry.

The original owner of this body, already completely overwhelmed by grief, was brutally beaten by those thugs and literally died of pure shock and rage. That was the only reason an unlucky bastard like me took his place.

Just as I was frantically processing all this information, a sharp electronic chime suddenly echoed in my mind.

Ding!

[Host soul detected. Cold-Hearted Empress Conquest System has successfully bound to your soul!]

[Deploying beginner quest. Proceed to the main gates of the royal palace immediately, drop to your knees, and yell 'I love you, Your Majesty!' three times.]

[Reward for Success: Charm +10]

[Penalty for Failure: Executed]

I froze, completely stunned. Then, a wave of absolute fury rushed straight to my head.

"What the fuck?!

"I haven't even cashed out my ten million dollars, and you dump me into this godforsaken place as a total nobody? And now you want me to be a desperate simp?! Screw that! Not in a million years!"

The System had clearly never encountered a host with such a fiery temper. Its mechanical voice glitched and sputtered for a second.

[Host, please calm down. The system is designed to mold you into the perfect heartthrob. As long as you win over the empress...]

"Shut up! I'm a highly sought-after Ivy League graduate! I'm not some brain-dead main character from a trashy romance novel!

"Send me back right now, or we can both go down together!"

I refused to back down an inch, immediately channeling the exact energy of a miserable corporate slave absolutely ready to throw hands with a toxic HR manager.

Right at that moment, a loud bang shattered the air as the front gates of the estate were violently kicked open.

Several burly, scar-faced thugs carrying wooden clubs barged into the courtyard.

The leader, a guy with a nasty scar across his face, spat on the ground and shouted arrogantly, "Is that useless Valerius kid dead yet? If you're still breathing, hurry up and hand over the deed to this estate! The prime minister made it clear—as of today, House Valerius is history!"

After forcing my way through the spatiotemporal barrier, the System inside my head completely flatlined for good. But thanks to the electromagnetic matrix, I ended up taking full, permanent control over the interdimensional rift.I permanently anchored the portal inside the deepest, most restricted sanctuary of the imperial palace. No more restrictions, no more limits. I could seamlessly travel back and forth between both worlds whenever and wherever I wanted.Over the next decade, under my leadership, the Alden Empire officially took off.Using the manufacturing lathes I brought back, I built the first steam engines. Using modern chemical formulas, I mass-produced smokeless gunpowder. The imperial army upgraded to advanced rifles, while our navy set sail on steam ironclads, wiping out everything in their path and expanding the Alden Empire across the seas until it became the indisputable superpower where the sun never set.And I wasn't just idling around in my world, either.Us

Just when I thought I could settle down as a cross-dimensional merchant and enjoy life with my empress in the Alden Empire, my frequent travels and massive transfers of heavy industrial gear finally broke the System's underlying bug. That day, I had just popped back to my world, planning to buy a batch of entry-level lathe machines to kick off a true industrial revolution in the empire.Right as I was about to step through the light portal, the spatial rift flickered violently. Then, with a loud shatter, it completely fractured and vanished! An ear-splitting alarm screeched inside my head.[Warning! Severe crack detected in the spatiotemporal barrier! The Spatiotemporal Control Center has detected the anomaly and is forcibly patching the source code!][Portal shut down! Repair period: Three months in modern time.][Note: Due to time dilation, three months in the modern world equals three full years in the medieval world!]The blueprints in my hands scattered all over the floor.

  • Wooing the Empress with Modernization   Chapter 9

The Alden Empire’s ridiculously fast rise to power finally triggered absolute panic among the three neighboring rival nations: the Frostfang Kingdom, the Solari Dynasty, and the Zeryn Caliphate.Afraid to face us one-on-one, they actually formed a joint coalition army of a million men. They didn't just line up troops along our borders; they also attempted an economic blockade to completely cut off all of our salt and iron imports."Your Majesty! The coalition's armies have cut off our trade routes!" The Minister of Finance was sweating bullets in pure panic. "Domestic iron prices have skyrocketed tenfold, and our national treasury is running dry!""They want to play economic warfare with me?" I sat right beside the imperial throne, letting out a cold laugh. "These guys clearly have no idea what the scythe of modern capitalism feels like."I didn't even bother rushing into a military conflict. I turned around, popped back to my world, and imported a massive shipment of goods.A few

After officially getting crowned as prince consort, I completely unlocked the wild lifestyle of an interdimensional cross-border reseller.Years of continuous warfare had left the Alden Empire in shambles, and the common folk could barely even afford to put food on the table.During the day, I reviewed government balance sheets in the ancient world, and at night, I hopped back to the modern world for some crazy online shopping sprees.Using just the spare change from my hundred-million-dollar fund, I directly bought out the entire crop yield of a modern agricultural research institution. Hundreds of tons of high-yield hybrid grain seeds, along with hardy, pest-resistant potatoes and sweet potatoes, were hauled back to the Alden Empire by the truckload."Prince Consort, these... these ugly little lumps pulled out of the dirt, are they actually edible?" The Minister of Finance stared at the pile of potatoes covering the ground, his face full of skepticism."Ugly? Buddy, this stuff

Three whole months had already passed in the world of the Alden Empire. And for the empire, those three months were a living hell.Ever since I vanished into thin air, Empress Catherine Alden’s personality underwent a 180. She became ruthless and downright bloodthirsty. Every single night, she sat alone on top of the castle wall right where I had disappeared, refusing to let anyone come anywhere near her.Hearing that the Alden Empire had lost its savior, the enemy nation across the border immediately tore up the peace treaty and mobilized a massive invasion force of three hundred thousand troops. Panic swept through the imperial court."Your Majesty! The enemy has breached Ironvale and is less than five hundred miles from the capital!" A few spineless, cowardly ministers fell to their knees, weeping uncontrollably as they tried to force her hand. "We beg Your Majesty to prioritize the country and agree to a marriage alliance!"Catherine’s eyes were completely hollow, like a dead

"Catherine! Wait for me! I swear I'll come back for you!"The second the countdown hit zero, I squeezed out every last drop of air in my lungs to roar those words. Then, amidst a blinding flash of white light and Catherine’s desperate, heartbreaking scream, I completely vanished from the top of the castle wall.Thump!I snapped my eyes open, gasping uncontrollably for air, my cheap t-shirt completely drenched in cold sweat.Harsh sunlight cut through the narrow gap of my curtains. I stared blankly up at the ceiling, taking in the familiar mold stains and the noisy, broken desk fan buzzing right beside me.I was back.Ding! My phone screen illuminated, and a bank notification popped up on the display.[Bank Notice: Wire transfer of $100,000,000.00 received. It was my balding, micromanaging boss who usually forced
