Chapter Thirteen
“What can I do for you detectives?” Robert threw his coat to the settee in his office and took his seat in front of his desk. Detective Stones and his partner, Veronica Hade had arrived at his office a few minutes ago as he’s secretary had called, saying she found a note in his mail. It was a rumpled sheet of paper with red stains all over, his secretary thought to be blood and the words ‘They’re next’ was written boldly in another bright red colour she suspected to be blood. Staring at the note threat in front of her, she instinctively called the cops immediately. Robert glared harshly at his secretary and it immediately registered in her head that he didn’t like the idea of contacting the police before telling him anything. So, she cut her conversation with the cops and ushered them into his office.
“Your secretary found this note in your mail,” Stones was the one to speak as he placed the sheet on the desk while Robert reached for it to scrutinize the paper

In her four years in New Havens, Theresa wondered how it is that finding an empty cab heading towards her block was the hardest thing she’d ever ventured into. As always, she had stood in the bustop for like ever, hoping on a cab or in the least a bus. For each step he took, her heart raced a little faster as she was almost certain he’d follow her. After somehow turning her perfectly shaped butt and glancing over her shoulders to wink at him, she knew she’d just given an unofficial invitation to the devil himself. As speculated, he came upon the door to her office and gently pushed it open, revealing the devilish smirk he had on. Oh my! She gulped as a surge of hunger electrified her body, increasing her pulse rate. Robert watched his private investigator devour his lunch; two extra large burgers and a bottle of coke. He munched on the burger like a man who hadn’t eaten in days, groaning in pleasure at the sweet taste of the beef. He had called Robert earlier in the day to inform him that he found what he’s been seeking. When Robert decided he was tired of watching the disturbing show in front of him, he cleared his throat lousily causing the man to, after five minutes, take his eyes off his food. Robert only rolled his eyes, sipping from his glass of cocktail. “What is the name?” he asked impatiently. “George Brown,” his private investigator replied. And when he saw the confusion on Robert’s face, he continued. “He was an ex-convict, works at an automobile repair shop in the city,” he brought out a brown file, placing it on the table. Once it was five, Theresa hurriedly completed all she had to do and left the office. She went to the grocery store and bought some food stuffs to prepare William’s favourite meal in a bid to make up for all the time she had missed with him and particularly because she felt guilty for having a sex dream about Sam Johnson. Again, not a sex dream! She slapped herself mentally. When she arrived at the apartment, she took a quick shower, turned on the sound system and started cooking through the help of a YouTube video she had downloaded. Hopefully, the pasta comes out just as good as the one in the video and taste as that of the Oakleys diner. Just in case none of those things pan out as expected, she ordered a box of pizza. She also got a large bowl of ice cream which they were going to eat whilst watching a movie, like old times. She would eventually fall asleep in his arms and he would you tuck her into bed. “Tis a boy!” “Ay, Maman would be pleased.” Theresa sat in the middle of the crowd, gripping tight the hem of her T-shirt which hugged her body in the right places. Her palms were moist and her breathing, rasped as she anticipated the horrific scene that was about to play out in front of her. “Don’t kill the baby,” she whispered to herself. Margaret had called her that afternoon to the house, posing an emergency. When she got there, in record timing, she dragged her to the theatre, making Sam drive them all the way. It was the opening show, ‘Antonius Brood’ and she didn’t want to go on that interesting voyage alone so, she’d brought them along much to Theresa’s liking as she had spent the better part of the day in bed. They drove to the Oakley diner as Margaret was craving their milkshake and burger. The drive was mostly quiet except for that time Margaret asked Sam what he thought about Antonius. He was indifferent about it. He wasn’t in support of his actions but then, understood the reasons behind them. He pointed out specifically that he didn’t at all like he had killed a baby. His lips had curled into a sneer when he said it. The scent of burgers, spaghetti, ketchup and fries combined hit them as they made their way to the seat down the diner. Sam ordered a bottle of coke and fries, likewise Margaret, who had gotten chocolate milkshakes instead. And Theresa got herself Oakleys special tea and sandwiches. Robert stormed into the agency, making his way to Theresa’s office in quick purposeful steps. Her head immediately snapped sideways when he burst into her office with a scowl on his face and she wondered what had put him in an upsetting mood early this morning. “Good morning Mr. Johnson,” she greeted, getting up from the seat. He didn’t answer and just threw the file he had in hand to her desk and she picked it up to read. It was the contract concerning his biography. And from the look of things, quite a number of changes had been made. “Oh no–“ she had begun to protest when Robert cut her off. “Margaret told me you were burgled.” She was about to open her mouth and speak but Sam’s frenzy cut her. “Burgled?” he exclaimed in shock. He was just outside her office when he heard Robert say. “When?” “Last night. Apparently, she told Margaret to keep shut about it,” Robert answered, shaking his head.

“I’d welcome you but you’re no stranger here,” he said, reaching for her bags which she handed to him. “Well, a welcome celebration sounds nice.” “Oh yeah?
