Amelia

As soon as Ethan stands next to me and pulls me into his arms, I feel like the weight of the world just rolled off my shoulders. His presence alone puts me at such ease, I can finally breathe again.

I don’t bother speaking as Ethan pulls Logan into a friendly discussion.

“Alpha Logan, I’m happy you decided to visit us, but I can’t help but wonder why you have arrived alone. I’m sure I mentioned that your Luna is more than welcome to join us on the invitation. Why didn’t she accompany you?” Ethan asks and glances at me, flashing me a quick, reassuring smile.

Logan huffs out an angry breath, a sound I’ve heard too many times to count as he brushes off Ethan’s polite questions. “She just didn’t,” is all Logan offers as an explanation.

Truth be told, the same as Ethan, I too wonder why Katherine didn’t join Logan. She’s extremely clingy, she goes everywhere Logan does, or at least used to do that in the past, so it’s odd to see him travel anywhere without his beloved Luna.

Amelia“Hey,” Logan says with a sheepish smile and lifts a bag I didn’t see him holding. “I brought some desserts since you probably already had lunch.” Sophia and Nina exchange knowing looks, wink at me and quickly hurry out of my office. Slowly, I stand up, “Logan, why are you here, really?” I ask and arch an eyebrow, not buying his excuse about desserts at all. To my surprise, he walks closer to my table and places the bag on it while grinning. I watch him open the bag and start pulling out various different boxes, setting them on the table in a neat line. “I had Marcel stop by the market and pick the best ones,” he explains and starts pointing his finger at the boxes. “He promised he tasted every one and honestly, I don’t doubt it since he looked a little green in the face after consuming all that sugar,” Logan chuckles and shakes his head.I look between the boxes and Logan, still sceptical, but he pays no mind to it as he slowly opens each box and rambles off about flavors a

AmeliaEthan looks around, as if making sure we won’t be overheard before he speaks. “Let’s say things are complicated regarding this matter.” “How? What’s going on?” I ask and feel a frown pull at my face. Ethan runs his hand through his hair, looking frustrated. “Logan still has to return to the Capital to report everything about the truce negotiations to the Alpha King, you know that, right?” “I do,” I mutter and frown a little deeper. “But I don’t understand how that has anything to do with letting him stay longer, for the purpose of attending the birthday celebration I never asked for, at that.” The look on Ethan’s face softens as he gently places his hands on my shoulders. “Amelia, if we allow him to stay, we help him let go of you. Once he realizes there’s no way back, he will leave and finally do what has to be done. After that, he won’t return anymore.” I think about Ethan’s explanation and realize that he’s making perfect sense. Logan stays for a bit, then finally heads

AmeliaThe next day, I wake up to knocking at my door. I toss on a robe and rush to check who’s there, then a wide smile spreads across my lips as I see Ethan standing there. “Good morning, Amelia,” he says with a smile as wide as mine and gives me a quick once-over. “It seems you intended to enjoy your day off. I’m sorry to bother you.” “Nonsense,” I stop him and usher him inside. “You never bother me, and besides, today I’m starting work later, it’s not exactly a day off. But do tell why you decided to stop by. And don’t start with all that ‘I wanted to check on you’ stuff, you know I’m fine.” I scold him gently. Ethan chuckles and shakes his head. “Only partly this time. I’m always worried about your well-being, but today, I came to ask if you would like to come with me to see Logan off.” I stop in my step and slowly turn to face him. “What time is it?” “It’s almost noon,” Ethan answers. “The guards say there’s no movement around the house he’s staying in, so I decided that it

KatherineBefore I can fully register the news, Doctor Morris clears her throat. “Luna Katherine, I’m very glad you came here today. The last checkup, according to my data, was when you were three months pregnant.” “Three?” I manage to choke out and somehow sound unbothered, even though the thoughts that run through my head couldn’t be called anything short of wild. “Yes, three,” the Doctor hums and reaches into the drawer for a file, then flips it open. “Okay,” I mutter while my thoughts keep racing. “Luna,” the Doctor’s voice pulls me out of my thoughts. “I was thinking of reaching out to you since you didn’t come to the hospital. I planned to notify you about the necessity of a prenatal visit once you reach four full months, but since you’re already here, how about we do it today?” Even the blood in my veins freezes at the words. First of all, there’s no way I have any type of checkup with this doctor, I’m not pregnant. Second, the more she speaks, the deeper the realization

KatherineLogan cuts off the mind-link again and this time, I’ve had enough. I grab the first object at my gasp—a crystal vase and throw it against the wall, shattering it to pieces. “Luna Katherine!” One of the maids gasps near me. Anger surges through me, my chest is heaving heavily with the breaths, but the small pieces scattering across the floor do nothing to calm my rage. I feel hands on me as the maid tries to stop me, frantically urging me to stop. “Get your hands off me!” I snarl at her and start throwing more things—everything at my reach, all of them shattering against the wall. By the time I’m done, the anger is still there, but I’m too tired to lift another thing. “Luna Katherine, what’s wrong?” The maid speaks softly, but I only glare at her. There’s no chance in hell I’ll ever tell her what’s going on. No servant in this pack will ever find out how rocky the relationship between Logan and I is. So, I glare at her again and snarl, “get out of here! You can clean u

LoganTo say that I’m surprised by Ethan’s sudden announcement is an understatement. Instead of arguing or blowing up, I force a smile, pull my hand out of his hold and leave the meeting room without another word. Holding the signed agreement like it’s the only thing that’s keeping me above the water, I return to the temporary house I’ve been staying in. The moment I close the door behind me, my wolf growls in my mind, “Logan, you’re not leaving without our mate, are you?”“Of course I’m not,” I scoff and roll my eyes although he can’t really see it. “I have no intention of leaving anytime soon, let alone tomorrow morning.” “Good,” he growls. “It’s not a good time to leave, especially since she’s been more accepting and talkative today.” I agree with a low hum and walk to the living room to find Marcel sitting on the couch, waiting for me. He turns to look at me and stands up. “Alpha, how did the meeting go?” “Fine,” I say and toss the agreement onto the coffee table. “We reach
