Chapter 1

Lucas is the Alpha. I am the pack’s most gifted healer. The Moon Goddess fated us as mates. Everyone thought we were perfect.

We agreed to complete the marking ceremony on the full moon after I became the Chief Healer.

However, after the voting results came out, the chief healer was indeed Sarah, Lucas's first love, a rogue wolf who had just returned to the pack.

Lucas pressured the Elders to make it happen.

He even gave Sarah the credit for my silver poisoning cure.

"Sarah just severed her mate bond. She’s incredibly weak. If I don't help her establish herself in our pack, the rogues will tear her apart."

"Elena, you’ve always been generous. You understand, right? You are so much stronger than her."

If I showed any dissatisfaction, I was being unreasonable and unsympathetic.

I didn't understand why saving his first love required sacrificing me.

But arguing was useless. Just like the last five years.

I nodded calmly. "Yeah, you're right."

Lucas looked surprised, then relieved. He rubbed my hair.

"Elena, you’ve really changed. In the past, you would have started a war over this."

"It seems our time apart taught you how to submit to your Alpha."

I paused.

I felt nothing.

He stripped me of my achievements while acting like he was proud of my "growth."

After our last fight, I tried to convince my wolf to reject Lucas as our mate. My wolf was in agony and nearly faded away.

He just used that time to complete his "obedience test" on me.

Five wasted years. Cheap and ridiculous.

After the celebration banquet for Sarah’s promotion, Lucas didn't go to his study for pack business as usual.

Sarah moved into the guest room downstairs six months ago. She claimed she was hiding from her abusive ex-mate, a violent rogue.

Lucas checked his phone and frowned.

"Sarah’s old injury is acting up. Go to the kitchen and brew some of that healing potion. I’ll take it down to her."

I stopped cleaning my weapons. "She can go to the infirmary."

Lucas’s face darkened.

"Those quacks at the infirmary don't know anything. Her wolf is unstable. You are the pack's best healer. Just brew the potion."

He stepped closer, releasing his Alpha aura.

"Elena, mate responsibilities are shared. If you won't make this small sacrifice, why should I keep loving you?"

" It's just helping a sick friend. Are you really that selfish?"

It was funny how self-righteous he looked.

I nodded and threw down the cleaning cloth. "Fine. Since you put it that way, I'll brew it."

Lucas relaxed immediately.

"See, Elena? Why couldn't you just do that from the start?"

He watched me work in the kitchen.

"That's right. As long as you listen and handle these domestic matters, my heart belongs to you, no matter which she-wolf I'm with."

He leaned against the doorframe.

"No one can replace you as Luna. Not even Sarah. She is too fragile. She needs to rely on others. You are the strong she-wolf standing behind me."

I stirred the soup and turned to smile at him. "Yes, you are absolutely right."

Lucas stared at me, looking for any sign of deception.

He found only submission.

Lucas’s phone rang.

It was the special wolf howl ringtone. Sarah was rushing him.

I turned off the stove, filled a thermos, and handed it to him. "Hurry up. Don't make the patient wait."

Lucas took the thermos. He reached out to hold my hand, offering a crumb of affection.

The phone kept ringing.

He pulled his hand back.

"Once Sarah recovers and this busy season ends, we’ll do the marking ceremony."

The mark?

He just wanted a free, high-level healer to serve him and his first love.

I used to dream of leaving my mark on his neck.

Now, the thought just made me sick.

I smiled. "Okay. Drive safe."

Lucas left, satisfied.

The door slammed shut.

Darkness swallowed the den.

I sat alone on the sofa, listening to the clock ticking.

The first time he abandoned me for Sarah, my wolf was in agony.

Now, that pain was gone.

My wolf had gotten used to it.

Lucas couldn't save his Pack in the end.Under the sanctions of the Alpha Council, other packs cut off all trade with him. Without the supply of healing potions, his warriors left one by one to join other territories. To pay the massive fines caused by the fake medicine, he sold his territory and was forced to do hard labor in the black market. His reputation in the werewolf world was completely destroyed.I also decisively cut off all forms of contact with him.One year later.Gabriel and I went to inspect the market in the Neutral Zone.It was a weekend, and we were purchasing supplies. In front of a bustling weapon shop, a loud argument drew a crowd."Lucas! You useless Alpha! You can't even afford a decent piece of meat, and you expect me to stay with you?""Sarah! You have the nerve to talk? If I hadn't spent all my money buying you those useless luxury goods, would I be in this state?"The voices were familiar.I stopped walking.I saw Lucas wearing tattered leather armor, his ha

Walking out of the Council Hall, freezing rain began to fall from the sky.Gabriel took off his fur coat and draped it over our heads, shielding me as we ran to the convoy.Once we were settled inside, I noticed a long, bloody scratch on the back of his hand.It happened at the entrance of the hall when Lucas, in a fit of rage, tried to shift and grab me. Gabriel had blocked him, getting scratched by his claws in the process."You're hurt. That's an Alpha's claw mark; it won't heal easily."My heart tightened, and I hurriedly took out the emergency healing herbs from the car's kit.Gabriel smiled nonchalantly. "It's just a scratch. No big deal."I lowered my head, carefully using my healing powers to treat him.Looking at the bright red wound, my tears suddenly fell uncontrollably. In the past, I had been hurt countless times for Lucas, but I never received a single word of comfort from him.But now, someone was hurt protecting me, yet he was the one smiling and comforting me.A warm t

To reclaim my work, I applied for a trip to the Neutral Zone.Gabriel approved the pass immediately and insisted on coming with me.His reason: As an Alpha, he couldn't let a Pack member get bullied at the Council arbitration. In the judgment hall of the Alpha Council.Lucas and Sarah were already there.Seeing me walk in side-by-side with Gabriel, Lucas's face turned black as soot.At the stone negotiation table, Lucas still wore that self-righteous look.He leaned back in his stone chair, releasing faint pheromones, and pointed at the registration document."Elena, have a conscience. You voluntarily gave that potion formula to the Pack to strengthen us.""And you gave up the credit to keep me. After all, for an Alpha as excellent as me, you have to make some sacrifices, right?""Now that the bond is severed, you want it back? No way. Consider it the price of a lesson learned."Sarah chimed in: "Exactly, Elena. You can't ask for a gift back. It was for the benefit of the whole Pack."

On the way out of the Frost Wolf territory, Lucas's words—"she is cheap to the bone"—buzzed in my mind like an annoying fly.Gabriel must have knocked a screw loose when he hit him, otherwise, Lucas wouldn't be spouting such self-righteous crap.I was exhausted after treating the wounded all day. I didn't take Gabriel's snow rover; instead, I went to the training grounds alone.Gabriel said he wanted to train too.I refused.I don't like other wolves watching when I need to vent my emotions.Leaving the training grounds, I sensed Lucas lingering at the border. He was like a lost rogue, obviously unable to breach Gabriel's pack barrier. He was here to "demand answers." With the fake potion scandal still raging in his Pack, he couldn't stay here forever. So I wasn't worried. But I didn't expect him to sink so low.A few days later.I got a call from my mom.Lucas was on the other end, "tattling" to her.I could hear him acting pitiful: "Elena has been acting out lately. It's not like her

Lucas clearly didn't expect me to have a backbone. His face darkened. He stepped forward, trying to grab my wrist while releasing aggressive Alpha pressure."Elena, don't be ungrateful! My patience is limited!"Just as his hand was about to touch me.A long, powerful hand appeared out of nowhere and seized Lucas's wrist."Use your words, not your claws."Gabriel stood in front of me. His tall stature and terrifying Alpha aura instantly crushed the room.Lucas tried to pull away, but he couldn't break the grip.He stared at Gabriel in humiliation and anger, then looked at me, his eyes turning sinister."I wondered why you suddenly acted so tough. So you found a rebound?"Sarah immediately shrieked, "Oh my God, Elena! You actually betrayed your mate? How could you do that to Lucas!"Gabriel shot a cold glance at Sarah. The killing intent in his eyes made her shrink back in fear. Then he looked at Lucas, his lips curling into a mocking smile."Mr. Stray Dog, delusion is a disease. You sho

Back at the cabin, my phone vibrated. It was a mental message from an unknown frequency.[Stop this nonsense. Enough is enough.][You still haven't fixed the mess with the mint water you passed off as the silver poisoning cure. do you really want to watch me get torn apart by those angry Alphas?]This was obviously from Lucas.I had already severed my mindlink with Lucas.Recently, the Pack Elders had tried to contact me, but I blocked them all.I thought he would understand my resolve. I didn't expect him to think I was just playing hard to get.I deleted the message without replying.Half a month later, I made a breakthrough with my new healing balm.My wolf gradually adapted to this life—a life without Lucas, but filled with respect and worth. However, the inevitable happened. The next day, I saw Lucas in the Diplomatic Hall of the Northern Territory. He wasn't alone.Sarah hung off his arm like a cheap accessory. She was wearing gorgeous Luna ceremonial robes, but the finery couldn
