Darren’s POV…

The restaurant Alessio chose was tucked away on a quiet street, dimly lit, the kind of place you only found if you were looking for it. I’d been here once, years ago, for a meeting that lasted all of twenty minutes before gunfire broke out in the alley. Tonight, the place was quiet. Too quiet.

Alessio was already there when we arrived, sitting at a corner table with his back to the wall, a glass of untouched water in front of him. His fingers drummed absently against the table, but his eyes were sharp, calculating, locked onto us the moment we walked in.

“Don. Bruno.” He greeted us with a nod.

“I’ve told you not to call me that,” I said automatically, my voice low. He smiled faintly, but it didn’t reach his eyes.

We sat, and almost immediately, he started talking.

He went into a full rundown of recent movements in the mafia, the quiet shifts in power, certain territories changing hands without a public fight, alliances forming where there shouldn’t have been any. He spok

  • Wrong bride to the right husband    Chapter 51(Darren's breakdown)

Third person's POV…Darren sat on the corridor chairs by the hospital hallway, his hands supporting his head. The bandage was tight around his hand, his veins popping out as a result. He sat there looking down in the dumps. His phone rang in his pocket but he didn't take it out to answer it. It kept ringing and he took it out and angrily threw it against the wall. The phone smashed against the wall.Miriam came out of Alina's ward just in time to witness what happened. She looked at Darren in confusion and saw his state. She had pity on him.“What is going on in your mind?” Miriam asked as she sat beside him.He sighed and ran his hands through his hair.“So, I was the only one who didn't know she was pregnant,” he said, staring into the wall. He made it sound more like a question than a statement. “That's what it appears to be,” Miriam shrugged.“How'd you find out?” He shifted his gaze from the wall and looked at her.“She told me… some days or week ago. I can't remember” As she wa

  • Wrong bride to the right husband    Chapter 50(She lost the baby)

Third person's POV… Alina lay sprawled on the floor, in a pool of her own blood. Miriam knelt beside her, holding her tight and screaming for help.“Please, somebody help. Is anyone there?” Miriam screamed at the top of her voice. Since she arrived, she hadn't seen any housekeepers or servants that could help out now.She looked down to Alina's bloodstained face. Her eyes were closed and Miriam feared if she was drifting to land of the spirits.“Alina please. Stay with me” Miriam said in a hoarse voice. Her voice had become hoarse after all the shouting and screaming.Alina opened her eyes weakly and her hands went to her stomach. “M… My… Baby” she stuttered.Miriam held her hand that was on her stomach and squeezed it. “Nothing will happen to my Godchild. I promise” Miriam said as she wiped Alina's bloody face with the back of her hands.“Oh my gosh. What's going on here?” Stephanie gushed when she saw Alina’s state. She rushed forward and held Alina.“What happened to her?” Stephan

  • Wrong bride to the right husband    Chapter 49(Vito's threat)

Darren's POV…I didn't know how Aria had ended up in my bed. She must have taken advantage of my condition and vulnerability last night. I was so mad at myself for having drunk. I was even more mad at myself that Alina saw Aria and I tangled in bed. The hatred and anger I saw in her eyes dug deep into my soul and when she stormed out of the room, I made to follow her, but Aria clung to me. “Babe, I'm here for you. We shared something intimate last night” she vomited. I couldn't believe I slept with Aria.I didn't know how Alina felt, but I knew she would be burning with rage and anger.I pushed Aria away from me roughly and she fell off the bed. I could tell she had a bad fall, but I didn't care.I immediately ran after Alina. Yes, I remembered Alina. I did a long time ago. That was the night she came into my room after I discovered Vito was my father. That night I felt terrible and broken. I felt my life didn't make sense anymore… but it did when I saw her. I had always felt safe a

  • Wrong bride to the right husband    Chapter 48(Someone pushed Alina)

Third person's POV…“Alina, calm down,” Miriam urged, pulling her closer, her hands firm on Alina’s shoulders, as Alina weeped her eyes out. Her voice was steady, almost too steady, as though she had rehearsed the words a hundred times before and careful at the same time, in case someone would hear her. “Calm down and listen to me. Darren didn’t do anything with Aria last night. There’s something I know… something you don’t.”The room tilted for Alina. She blinked at Miriam, partially drying her tears with the back of her hands. Didn’t do anything? The words clashed violently with the memory still raw in her mind… the sheets tangled, Darren’s bare chest, Aria’s hands coiled around his waist like a poisonous snake.Alina’s lips parted, but no words came. She could only stare, her breathing uneven, her heart hammering so loudly it drowned out everything else.A part of her wanted to believe that, but right now, her heart felt too hardened towards Darren.“I'm sorry, but I don't think I'

  • Wrong bride to the right husband    Chapter 47(Alina caught them in bed)

Alina’s POV…By the time I returned from upstairs with the glass of water and the small packet of medicine, the couch was empty. My steps faltered. The couch didn't seem as if anyone had sat on it, or maybe been long it's been sat on.For a moment, I just stood there, blinking at the space where Darren should have been. My heart lurched. Where could he have gone in that state? He could barely walk straight.“Darren?” My voice echoed faintly through the hallway. No answer.Panic prickled under my skin. I set the water down on the coffee table and scanned the living room, everywhere. I hurried to the kitchen to know if he'd lost his way and entered the kitchen in his drunk state or went there for water, but he wasn't there or seemed to have been there. The kitchen was as silent as a graveyard. It didn't seem like anyone had come there.I went back into the living room and scanned the entire place a second time. He wasn’t anywhere.Just then, a thought crossed my mind. What if he was in

  • Wrong bride to the right husband    Chapter 46(Aris in his bed)

Alina's POV…The moment Miriam dragged me into my room and shut the door behind us, I collapsed onto the bed, my chest tight, my hands trembling. The image of Darren’s car pulling away without so much as a glance in my direction played on a loop in my mind. Miriam didn’t waste time. She sat beside me, her eyes wide with impatience. “Alina, if you don’t start talking right now, I swear I’m going to explode. What the hell is going on?” I swallowed hard, my fingers knotting together. “I don’t even know where to begin.” “Start from the beginning,” she demanded, crossing her arms. “Because of the way you’ve been acting since I got here, even though I have not been here up to an hour. Girl, my ears are bleeding from all the things you’re not saying.” “And why did you let Aria get away with that?” She asked, as she crossed her hands over her chest.I exhaled shakily. And then, it all spilled out. Aria was not my problem right now. Once I've found out what's up with Darren, then Aria
