Halle stood on shaky legs, her senses heightened due to the darkness. She knew where everything was but at the same time was still way too cautious to act on impulse.
“Where do you think you’re going?” He held her hand and pulled her back, his voice sounded weaker but it didn’t lose that dark undertone or danger it made her feel.“You s…said to patch you up,” She stuttered, “and I don’t have night vision,”Fuck!. Her coping mechanism was rearing its ugly head! Making jokes when it wasn’t really needed. Halle couldn’t see the man’s expression but she could feel the tension radiating off him with just a hint of anger.Yeah, she was definitely going to lose her life tonight but she’d be damned if she lets him take her down without a fight.Surprisingly, he lets go of her hand and nods, “Turn the lights on but don’t try anything else…” He warned in a low voice.Halle swallowed with much difficulty, nodding vigorously like she was being paid to do it before willing her already weakened legs to carry the weight of the rest of her body. The light switch was only a few steps away from the bed. As Halle walked to the bedside with slow and calculated steps in the dark, she contemplated feeling the sheets for her phone and calling the police. He might get to her before then, then he’d shoot her in the head.Halle exhaled shakily as her hands met the wall and she felt around for the light switch. It turned on in an instant, blinding lights heading straight for her eyes and brightening up the apartment. She blinked back the prickly tears and then turned around slowly. The first thing noticed was the gun in her face, then deep dark brown eyes that glittered under the lights in the apartment.Holy-shit-he-is-hotHalle didn’t realize she was holding her breath, her gaze drifted down from his thick and lovely-shaped eyebrows to his pale pink lips, they were full and looked extremely soft. Halle’s fingers itched to feel the skin beneath her fingers, then she mentally slapped herself for the stupid thoughts.No. She would not be swayed by his beautiful eyes and well-defined jaw, that dark stubble that covered his chin, cheeks, and the top of his lips…his bronze skin, and long black hair that reached the top of his shoulders. No…she was definitely not affected and definitely will not be affected by the mesmerizing sight of him!“Like what you see?” He smirked, his deep voice bringing her out of her lust-filled thoughts and back to the present.Right.There was a gun pointed at her face.Halle’s eyes roamed across his body again, she avoided his eyes and bent her head just so he wouldn’t see her flushed cheeks. He wore a black leather jacket with a grey shirt underneath, black jeans, and black sneakers. He looked like a man on a mission, the dark emotions that swirled in his eyes and the hardness of his jaw.He wasn’t one to mess with.“Where are you hurt?”Halle was shocked by the fact that she managed a sentence without sounding like a blubbering fool. His eyes narrowed as he lowered his gun but never put it in his waistband as they did in the movies or set the gun down. He held it In his hand like it was a fifth limb he couldn’t get rid of.He used his other hand to open the side of his jacket, his eyes never leaving Halle’s as he did so.Halle bit her bottom lip at the first sight of blood in his clothes. The left side hidden under the jacket was dyed red and by the look of it, was still spreading.Halle took a subconscious step back. Sure she was a medical student but she’s only just begun school! She was only taught the basics and even then she didn’t want anything to do with blood. So much for wanting to be a nurse.“You look like you’re about to pass out,” She heard him chuckle as he closed his jacket and crossed his arms over his chest. His voice was weak get his eyes were alight with humor but that didn’t lessen the dangerous air around him.It was almost suffocating and the fact that he towered over her small frame like a fucking building didn’t really help matters.“Don’t tell me you’re afraid of blood,” A beautiful eyebrow cocked and Halle’s attention was slowly taken away."A medical student afraid of blood," He laughed and shook his head, "That's a first for me,"“I…” She coughed, a poor attempt to clear her throat, “I am not afraid of blood,” She rambled."And I have only been a nursing student for half a year, just because I'm not used to-" Halle caught herself before she could ramble some more."I am not afraid of blood..." She said again.A lie, but he didn’t need to know that. She lifted her chin and squared her shoulders with false confidence.“Please take off your shirt and sit on the bed,” She said, her cheeks setting ablaze the second the words left her lips.“Damn…” Came that deep baritone chuckle, “Don’t you think that’s going a bit too fast?”“Huh?”“We’ve only just met,” He teased.Halle’s eyes widened in realization, she gasped and looked away from the outrageous man, her hands moving up to palm her cheeks.“You know that’s not what I meant!” She exclaimed which only managed to earn her a chuckle from him and a sarcastic,“Sure,”"Just do as I asked,""Your wish is my command," He replied, showing his pearly whites as he grinned. He was getting to her.She will not let him get to her!Halle stared down at her feet and gritted her teeth to hold back a snarky reply. That would earn her a bullet in her pretty little head and there might be a chance that she’d survive it.She wouldn’t be able to afford the hospital bills…Her mouth had to stay shut. When she was sure she was calm enough to look him in the eyes, she turned around. He was already seated on the bed, which made her wonder how he moved without her hearing his footsteps. His jacket and shirt were tossed clumsily on the bedside table, staining the brown wood with blood. Her sheets too had already been stained, and blood trickled down his left side, it looked like a stab wound to his rib but thankfully it hadn’t hit any vital points that would cause excessive bleeding. He just sat there, half-naked and bleeding on her bed. His body looked like the perfectly sculpted body of a god.He had a toned muscular structure, well-defined and built curves, his forearms and biceps covered in black and grey tattoos, his waist was narrow, his abdomen…Shit!Shit!Halle barely managed to look away from his body. She preferred him with the clothing on, that way she wouldn’t have compromising thoughts about a man that might end up murdering her tonight.“I…” Her tongue felt heavy, “I will get my kit,”The edges of his lips curled up as she spoke, his eyes told her he knew what he was doing…Damn it!“I’ll be waiting…” He replied. He didn’t think she was capable of doing anything crazy to get away from him."Don't take too long," He teased, knowing fully well that she was just going to be a few steps away. His hand still lay lazily on his gun and his eyes followed her every movement.Halle’s eyes drifted to her phone that sat at the edge of the bed, just a few feet away from the manDid he notice it?She inhaled deeply and clenched her fists. She had to get that phone!Halle walked to the side of the bed yet again, her eyes on her phone and the man who sat next to it seemingly oblivious to its presence.Halle always kept her first aid kits in the bedside drawer, it was a habit that has hasn’t been able to break ever since she was a child. Her mother called her a ‘clumsy little bundle of trouble’ sometimes and made Halle learn early how to treat her small cuts and even the bigger ones…mostly because her skin had to stay perfect. The man’s eyes followed her every movement, from her pulling open the drawer and bringing out the white box that she had personally stocked up herself even though since she’s been here, she’s never had to use it.His eyes followed her as she made her way to the spot next to him and closer to her phone. It was now out of his sight as her body blocked his view. He didn’t seem suspicious of her action but instead looked down at the box curiously and then back into her eyes. His burning gaze caught her off her, her breath caught
Pain.It was the first thing that registered in her head as her eyes slowly cracked open. The side of her head throbbed like she had run into a brick wall and her eyes burned from the light of the sun coming through her curtains.Weird.She always closed the windows and curtains before she went to bed, had she forgotten about it the previous night? Her ears rang and her throat felt like she had eaten gobs of dry sand and then walked in a desert for an hour. She groaned as she drowsily brought her hands up to her face and rubbed her eyes.“Good morning…” Came a deep voice at her side, the voice sent shivers down her spine…velvety smooth, filled with dark emotions and it still somehow managed to sound sleep affected.Damn.Were her fantasies finally coming to life? “Good morning…” Halle replied and then groggily moved her hands from her face and opened her eyes.Pale pink lips first came into view then dark brown eyes that held in so many emotions but yet didn’t give even a
A kiss?!Such an outrageous comment!Halle grabbed the glass of orange juice in front of her and chugged like her life depended on it, maybe it did in a way.His smile broadened and his chuckle slowly morphed into a hearty laughter. The sound was like bells from her grandfather’s church in her ears. It was melodic and as much as she didn’t want him to stop, she couldn’t help the annoyance slowly turning into anger. No, she wasn’t angry at him but at herself for imagining a well-detailed occurrence of those full pink lips pressing over hers, their softness rubbing against her skin and that pink tongue that made an appearance every now and then, she pictured how it would feel when it slipped past her lips and tangled with her tongue.Fuck! Now she was quiet, looking at him like he was a steaming hot meal on a cold winter night. His laughter slowly died down when his eyes met hers, could he see the emotions in them? That would be embarrassing if he could see through her thoughts.
“Are you there? Hello?”“Uh…yes, yes I’m here Greta,” Halle said quickly, she had been so shocked by the gun being aimed at her head that she’d forgotten to speak and breathe. She could hear Greta’s breathing through the phone, waiting for a reply, something else but Halle wasn’t sure what.“Well?”Halle looked up at the man, their eyes met at the same time, their faces holding the same expression of confusion but he didn’t bring his hand down, rather he moved it closer until Halle could feel the nuzzle press against the center of her head.‘Speed it up’ he mouthed.“Well, what?” Halle replied, trying to steady hard to steady her voice just so Greta wouldn’t notice anything off. She was a perceptive bitch with trust issues. Greta was suspicious about everything and everyone, one of the reasons why Halle loved the woman honestly. She was one of the first friends Halle had made when she came to a new country, she couldn’t help but have a soft spot for her.“Tell me, did you see t
He brought out the keys from his jacket and handed it to her. As she slowly reached out to take it from him, he held her hand and pulled her close. Her chest pressed against his, Halle looked up at him...His face moved closer to hers as well, his warm breath fanning against her eyelashes and caressing the sensitive skin of her lips. Yet his eyes told a different story, they were dark with emotions she couldn’t identify, serious, and sent chills down her spine. It awed her how quickly the man’s expressions he gave away could change and it made her wonder just how many years he had spent honing this impressive skill. “The people that are after me are much worse than the police, Flower, they will do horrible and unimaginable things to me once they find out my location,” He whispered, “Think about this when you open the door and when you speak to those officers,” Why was he telling her this now? People are after him? Halle bit her lips and reluctantly took the keys from him, her clamm
How is it possible that in one day, one man could change the way Halle saw everything?Over six hours had passed since the Officers had left, Halle hadn’t said a word to the man who sat on her bed.His eyes were on her, following her every move as she began to clean every inch of her apartment, looking for a way to distract herself from the lies she’d told and what she had just pulled herself deeper into. This has become much more than a hostage situation and because of her ‘soft heart' that her mother often said would get her killed one day, now she was in a situation that would definitely get her killed.Halle felt bile rise in her throat. She never lied to anyone! Sure she told half-truths or sometimes switched up stories but only when it was necessary but yet this man had made her lie so many times in a span of just a few hours since coming into her life.Is this was they call a toxic relationship?Halle bit her bottom lip to keep herself from groaning out loud, unfortunatel
His lips came back down on hers, his tongue delving into her mouth and tangling itself with her tongue. It was like a battle, they pushed and pulled, bit and nibbled until Halle was flushed and out of breath, he pulled away slowly, breathing just as hard as she did.“Halle…”Halle wished she had something to call him, his name. She wished she could moan out his name and make it sound as sinful as he made hers sound. Her eyes slowly cracked open, brown eyes were just a few inches above her, boring deep into her with a burning gaze that made her lower belly burn with a need that she still didn’t understand. His hand moved down to her thighs, slowly went up her dress, and caressed her bare skin. His hot fingers touching her in ways no one else has.Halle moaned from the burst of pleasure she felt from his touch, her hand grabbing fistfuls of his hair and bringing him closer. She wanted those probing fingers of his higher, but he never moved them from the top of her thighs, he kept
Halle awoke with a start. She gasped for air as she felt her back drenched in cold sweat and her hair matted to her forehead. Her heart pounded like she’d just run a marathon and her sleepiness had completely left her. “Halle?” She heard a worried voice from her side, a warm hand holding her shoulders and trying to shake her out of her unexplained state. “Flower…” He called out again. His baritone voice was enough to bring her back to her senses. “What’s wrong?” His hands moved up to her face, bringing her face closer, cupping her chin, and brushing tendrils of her curls away from her face. He was here, with her on her student bed that could barely contain two people. In his brown eyes were embers of worry, he didn’t let go, not even when she had forced a reassuring smile and tried to pull away from his grasp. “Nightmare?” He inquired, his eyes didn’t leave hers. It only then occurred to Halle that his eyes were bright, with no sign of sleep in them. Sunlight was seeping past t
