Training the Queen

Serena’s POV

“You can’t keep me in the dark, Kale,” I snapped, standing in the war chamber where the candlelight flickered against his clenched jaw. My voice was sharper than I intended, but the fire burning in my chest refused to dim.

He turned on me, eyes blazing gold. “And I can’t keep losing you, Serena. Not again. Not ever.” His voice rumbled like thunder rolling over mountains, heavy and final.

The words cut deeper than any blade. I should have been furious, but instead guilt pinched at my chest. “You won’t lose me,” I said, softer, though even I doubted the weight of my promise. I had been taken, nearly broken, too many times already. “But locking me away while you bleed for me...that is losing me too.”

His growl rumbled low, shaking the walls and sending gooseflesh racing down my arms. His wolf prowled close to the surface, warning, threatening, but not me...never me. “Then train. Stand beside me not as weakness but as strength. I won’t have my queen defense

The King's PromiseKale’s POVThe first light of dawn broke over the kingdom with the clarity of a promise fulfilled. The sky was painted in streaks of gold and rose, the kind of sunrise that demanded attention, a reminder that no matter how dark the night had been, the world moved forward. And yet, for all its beauty, I did not look at the horizon with relief. Not yet.I stood on the balcony of the palace, overlooking the sprawling fields that had been scarred by battle and yet survived, resilient as our people. The air was crisp, carrying both the scent of morning dew and the faint smoke of last night’s pyres. The warriors had returned to their quarters, some tending to wounds, others quietly speaking to comrades who would never rise again. Their sorrow was heavy, and I felt it like a weight pressing on my chest. But my gaze was not on them. It was fixed on the mountains to the north, where shadows still lingered. Ronan’s shadow. The thought of him stirred something that was no long

The Threshold Kale’s POVThe dawn broke slowly over the kingdom, gray and fragile like a promise half-kept. Mist clung to the hills, curling around stone towers and silver-leaved trees, softening the harsh edges of the battlefield from yesterday. Yet despite the calm morning, a storm lingered in my chest that no sunrise could dispel.I stood on the balcony of the royal chambers, Lyla sleeping in Serena’s arms inside, and the quiet of the palace stretched around me like a weight. The soldiers below were returning to their routines, checking weapons, sharpening swords, tending to minor injuries, but their glances rose to me occasionally, full of respect and lingering awe. I did not need their approval, though; I already knew the measure of today’s victory. Ronan had fled. He had been defeated. My family was safe. But safety was a fragile thing.I turned away from the balcony and walked through the halls, each step echoing against polished stone. The palace was quiet, eerily so, as if e

Shadows Still Follow the Kingdom That RemainsKale's POVThe battlefield was quiet now.The kind of quiet that isn’t peace… the kind that comes after everything has already been broken.Bodies of Ronan’s soldiers were being carried away by my warriors, lined respectfully in rows, whether they were our kin or our enemies. Every fallen wolf deserved dignity in death, even if they served a king who had long forgotten what dignity meant. The scent of iron, ash, and torn earth still clung to the air.And I stood there, Lyla’s small hand wrapped in mine, her fingers warm and steady even as the world around us felt shaken, unsteady, altered forever.Serena walked beside me, her posture strong but her breathing uneven. She was trying to be composed for Lyla, for me, for herself but after everything Ronan forced her through… after everything he nearly cost us… I could feel the tremor beneath her skin.I squeezed her hand gently. She looked up at me, and for a moment, it was just us.Her. Me.

The King Who Stood His Ground Serena’s POVThe sky was an iron-gray sheet when the dust finally settled. The battlefield stretched before us like a torn tapestry shredded earth, claw marks, shattered stone, and patches of smoldering ash where magic had collided too violently. The wind carried the sting of blood and the bitter aftertaste of power spent to the very last drop. But above all of that, above the ruins and the carnage and the restless groans of wounded wolves, one truth blazed brighter than fire itself:Kale was standing. And Ronan… was not.My lungs felt too tight, as if someone had wrapped chains around my ribs. I had never seen anything like what just happened. No painting, no legend, no song written by the old bards could have captured it. Two rulers….two kings…two monsters shaped by destiny and battle, clashing with enough force to shatter mountains.Ronan lay on one knee, breathing hard, his chest heaving like a dying furnace. Blood trickled from his mouth. His face…

Shadows Collide Serena’s POVThe courtyard was no longer a mere place of conflict; it had become the eye of a storm. Every stone, every shadow, every heartbeat throbbed with tension. Sparks flew as swords met, soldiers clashed, and the metallic echo of steel rang off the castle walls. Yet amidst the chaos, my focus never wavered. Lyla was safe or at least she had to be. I could feel her presence, small and fragile, like a beacon guiding me through the storm. My resolve hardened with every heartbeat. I will protect her. I will endure. I will survive.Kale was a whirlwind of precision and strength, striking with lethal efficiency, parrying, defending, shielding both Lyla and me with every movement. His presence was a tether, grounding me, giving me the courage to face what was coming. And yet, I knew the real confrontation had not yet begun. Ronan remained at the edge, his shadow stretching across the courtyard, a predator observing his prey. Every flicker of his gaze was calculated, e
