Prologue

I never imagined I would succeed at this. Everything fell perfectly into place, but now I find myself in a bewildering state, unable to comprehend the turns my life has taken. Am I mistaken, or am I correct in this understanding?

I witnessed my life crumbling before me, yet I remained motionless. Who would care, after all? I don't think it matters. I'm just a poor girl being pursued by a wealthy man. Was that my thinking?
