HUNTER'S P.O.V

(PRESENT DAY)

I staggered into the room, half-naked and slightly unconscious, my shirt was nowhere to be found.

My head is banging and a voice cut through the haze— it belonged to Vera.

"Oh my God," she whispered into her phone as her head turned in my direction.

"Hunter just walked in."

The line went dead, and Vera got up from where she sat.

My blurred vision caught her damp face, matted with tears and sweat— she had been crying.

"Who... was that?" My voice sounded hazy as I squinted at her.

Vera's head shook as she took in the pitiful state I was in.

"Hunter..." her voice broke. "Where have you been? You've been gone for days."

I tried to get words out of my mouth, but I belched loudly instead.

"You...you can't keep doing this. You can't keep disappearing," she stammered.

"Baby." I reached out, missing her by inches. "Don't cry."

I beckoned her to come to me. I wanted to feel her because she was all I needed right now.

Vera didn't move, so I went to meet her. She stood in front of me, looking the sexiest she'd ever been.

Her hair was down, spilling freely over her shoulders. Half her ass was out as her shorts also failed to keep her decent.

The crop top she wore hugged her tightly, revealing her toned stomach. And her tits... God, her big tits, her top could not even contain them.

*Fuck!*

"Were you expecting me?" I asked, a crooked smile played on my lips as I pulled her close.

My arms wrapped around her, and I kissed the top of her head, taking in her scent.

"Hunter, you can't keep doing this..."

I ran my hands over her hips and waist, feeling the smoothness of her skin. She smelled so fucking good.

I wished she would stop talking, enjoy the moment, then let me fuck the shit out of her.

My cock strained painfully against my trousers, and I grabbed her bare ass, grinding into her front.

Vera yelped, pulling away. "Hunter, stop!"

"Why?" I asked, confused.

"Because I'm trying to talk to you," she cried.

"Then shut up and stop talking," I said, anger slowly rising in my voice.

"Why are you being this way? Where did you go?" Vera asked, ignoring my pressing need for her touch.

I pushed past her. "I can't deal with this."

"Hunter?" she called. "You can't just disappear without telling anyone."

God, I wished she would stop talking.

"You can't—"

"Vera, if you don't want to have sex, I suggest you shut the fuck up and leave me alone."

My voice was harsh, and Vera instantly went mute.

My eyes stayed fixed on her for what felt like forever, daring her to speak to me again.

Her mouth opened, probably wanting to say something, but she shut it immediately.

*Wise choice.*

I marched to the mini fridge tucked in the corner of our room, ripping it open.

I scrambled through it, and there's not a can of beer in sight.

"You weren't like this before, Hunter," Vera spoke from behind me, her voice gentle.

"I fucking warned you," I said furiously.

"You can talk to me, you don't tell me anything anymore," Vera began to cry.

"Where's the beer? Where did you put it?"

"Away! Because I knew you'd do this," she screamed at me.

I stormed at her, grabbing her shoulders. She couldn't even look at me, her head bent as she cried profusely.

"Just tell me where you put it," I said as calmly as I could.

"You were never like this, Hunter. Please talk to me," she said, ignoring my questions.

"Stop!" I yelled, pushing her violently, watching her fall hard to the ground.

*Fuck, I didn't mean to do that *

Vera was on the floor, holding on to her arm, crying.

"Vera Baby, I'm sorry," I whispered.

But there was something about this that excited me. Seeing her on the floor in pain, her current state kept the blood flowing in my cock.

*That's sick.*I thought wildly.

I turned away from her, trying to drown that thought from building further.

I was regaining consciousness, and I didn't want that. I needed alcohol now. I thought hard, taking a quick scan of the room. My eyes stopped at one of Vera's drawers.

*Bingo.*

I hadn't found my beer yet, but I knew it would be there. I also knew it would be locked.

I walked to the drawer, tugging the handle, it didn't open.

My assumptions were right. Vera had locked it, but a stupid lock and key wouldn't stop me.

I kicked down the drawer, it broke as it fell, and my beer cans came rolling out.

Quickly, I took one, snapping it open and pouring the contents into my mouth.

My throat burned, but that didn't stop me from taking another can, downing the contents of it also. The alcohol hit immediately, and I was glad.

Whatever happened next, whatever I did, I'd have the alcohol to blame.

I turned to Vera again, my eyes narrowed.

She still held her arm, she was still in pain, and there was nothing I wanted more than to twist her arm all the way back, causing her more pain.

I took a step towards her, pure wrath in my eyes. Vera saw this, and she struggled to get away from me.

As she crawled, the memories I had buried so deep returned to me in quick flashes.

Mum on the floor, just like Vera...

"Hunter, please," she begged.

"It seems you want something from me," I said as I walk slowly towards her, dropping the empty can on the floor.

"I'm sorry, I don't," she sobbed.

"No, Vera, it's a little too late for that. Tell me what you want?" My voice was louder than her pathetic cry.

"I'm sorry, Hunter. I care about you."

"If you cared, you wouldn't have hidden my beer," I yelled, grabbing her by the arm that hurt.

Now my face meets hers, and all I saw was fear. She closed her eyes tightly, sobbing so hard.

*You're a monster...just like him.*

My chest stung with pain, immediately feeling sorry for her.

I loosened my grip on her arm.

"Vera Baby," my voice breaking instantly.

Her eyes opened, blinking through her tears.

"I'm sorry," I begged, like my senses had finally returned to me, like that "thought" had put me in check.

I bit hard on my lip to keep them from trembling, and Vera watched through teary eyes.

I held her face in my hands, wiping all her tears away. Vera's frozen, not knowing what to do with herself.

I pressed my lips against hers, tasting the saltiness of her tear-stained lips. I pulled away, but that single memory returned again.

My mother, screaming in agony.

I seized Vera's arm again, yanking her up to her feet, listening to the sound of her own agonising scream.

  • YOU WRECKED ME    COFFEE

VERA'S P.O.V"Where are you heading? Are you waiting for the next class here?" Ellie asked.Quickly, I turned to her direction, giving up looking for Hunter. He had probably left already."I think I'll wait in here," I replied. My final class was in the next hour, and I had nothing to do but wait.A few unfamiliar students trooped into the lecture hall, their voices loud, backpacks new, and their laughter a little too eager."Freshmen. They have a class here," Ellie stated the obvious."Well, we can't wait here anymore," I said, gathering my things."So, coffee shop?" Ellie suggested. It was raining outside, the showers were light, and the air was cool—coffee was brilliant for this weather."Coffee sounds nice, but can we drink it somewhere quieter?" I asked, remembering how busy and loud the coffee shop normally was."Sure, somewhere I don't have to shout just to hear myself," Ellie agreed, swinging her handbag over her shoulder. We left, and just as I had presumed, the coffee shop w

  • YOU WRECKED ME    SURPRISE

VERA'S P.O.VTo everyone's surprise, Halden nodded, acknowledging Hunter's presence. He casually resumed teaching, like Hunter hadn't committed the worst offence a student could.Hunter walked quickly to the row in front of me, sliding into his usual seat, not wanting to draw even more attention to himself."Halden's in a good mood today," Ellie pointed out, ignoring the very obvious favouritism Halden had just displayed. "He almost bit Julian's head off just last week."He shouldn't be allowed in, not during this Professor's class.Hunter was Halden's golden boy and the top law student in my year. Most lecturers were very fond of him— Halden included. But it seemed the rest of the class had forgotten, given that Hunter barely took advantage of it."Halden might as well give him an A on the surprise test, lick the ground Hunter walks on," a female student whispered behind, loud enough for me to hear. She was annoyed and clearly pissed.Ellie gave me a "did you just hear what she said"

  • YOU WRECKED ME    BLOCKED

HUNTER'S P.O.V The car in front of me refused to move. I gripped the steering wheel so hard my knuckles turned white. I was going to lose it if the chick in the red car didn't move. A horn blared behind me. "Can you please, maybe hurry the fuck up?" Someone yelled out of the window. "Jesus Christ..." I muttered under my breath. The girl in the red car inched forward slower than a damn snail. I bent my head, peeking under the windshield to see the holdup.I saw it, a yellow "LEARNER" tag dangled from her bumper. Great, a learner, right in the middle of peak school traffic. I slumped back in my seat with a bitter exhale. This mess was going to take forever and I was already late for my first lecture. My phone started buzzing angrily beside me, it was my alarm, a not-so-gentle reminder that I should be in class already. I slammed my thumb on the screen to shut it off and looked ahead again. Why the hell wasn't anyone helping the learner? Giving directions or anything? Just a terr

  • YOU WRECKED ME    MANSION

VERA'S P.O.V The truck door closed, and the slam ripped me out of sleep. I blinked awake into darkness. The sky was ink‑black, the sort that swallowed everything. It was late, almost eleven o'clock in the evening. Hunter's silhouette moved past the window, heading to wake me."Sorry I woke you, we're here."I sat up slightly, disoriented, staring out at the place I still called home. The mansion stood tall and intimidating, glowing under warm outdoor lights. The last time I was here, everything looked and felt different, Hunter and I came to have dinner with my parents. This time, he was letting me go. My gaze caught the neatly trimmed edges forming the letters VH, my family's initials: Vincent Haven, Vivian Haven, and me... Vera Haven. The new design was definitely my mother's touch. She loved anything dramatic and overly sentimental. Even bushes. Hunter moved to the back of the truck, unloading the few things I brought with me. He came to get the door, and I stepped out, holdi

  • YOU WRECKED ME    SCARS

HUNTER'S P.O.V"Fuck..I did this."The memories hit like a sledgehammer to the skull. Last night, her body was against the wall, she cried endlessly.I couldn't remember everything, but I knew I choked her, not once, but multiple times. I told her to stop crying while I kept going like a monster. "Baby..." My voice came out hoarse, almost broken. Her lashes fluttered as she fought back a tidal wave of tears, one slip and they'd fall.I reached for her hand, pulling her close to me, her body stiffened, but she didn't resist, not really, but she didn't melt into me either. She only let me hold her because she was tired, not because she wanted to.She cried into my chest, her tears soaked through my shirt, and I let her— it was the least I deserved. Her head is cradled in my arms, and I bend to kiss the top of it, listening to her sniff through the tears. What could I say to fix this?Another apology? Another promise? She's heard them all; she was tired of them. Words meant nothing no

  • YOU WRECKED ME    REALISATION

HUNTER'S P.O.VI woke up with a skull-splitting headache which drilled behind my eyes. The room tilted, swayed, then slowly stilled as my vision adjusted. I lay there, breathing through the nausea, waiting for the world to stop punishing me.When I finally turned my head, Vera wasn't beside me. I looked towards the bathroom, the door was shut.*Probably showering.*She stepped out, her body was wrapped in a white towel and her wet hair dripped onto her bare shoulders. She moved strangely, almost floating on her toes as she headed straight for the window."Vera," I started to say.She drew the curtains and sunlight flooded the room, blinding me and cutting my sentence short."Jesus..."I shielded my face with my arm, blinking through the burn.Vera didn't look at me, she didn't say anything. She just tiptoed, like she was avoiding landmines— then I saw why. Freshly painted toenails, probably not wanting them to smudge. "It's almost seven," she finally said, her voice flat. "Aren't y
