Chapter 24

Still, it was better to hurt now than to drag it on for even longer.

She swallowed the tears rising up her throat and said quickly, “If there isn’t anything else, editor-in-chief, I’ll take my leave now.”

With that, she hurriedly left without even daring to give Gu Yihan another look.

Su Kexin ran right out of the company, but when she arrived downstairs, she saw that it was raining heavily outside, and she had just happened to forget her umbrella upstairs.

However, she did not have the guts to go back and retrieve her umbrella. What if Gu Yihan was in her office space? She did not even have the guts to go upstairs.

She was oh so weak.

When Su Kexin looked at the torrential rain outside, she wanted to call a cab, but it was the after-work rush hour now, so there were no cabs to be seen. The e-hailing app did not work either, so she had to clench her teeth and hold her bag over her head, running quickly toward the subway station.

Her body was soaking as she squeezed her way into the subway, and when she exited the station, she hoped to see that the rain had already stopped. However, the heavens insisted on torturing her as well, and the rain outside showed no signs of letting up.

Su Kexin could not find a cab here either, so all she could do was stand by the subway station, waiting stupidly.

She remembered that it was such a rainy night two years ago too, when she lost that which was most precious to her…

Soon after that, she had lost Gu Yihan, the man she had thought would stay with her forever.

Bit by bit, the despair from two years ago crawled up her once desensitized heart like a slimy insect.

Su Kexin could not help but hug her shoulders and crouch down, curling into a ball.

Cold…

It was so cold...

Her whole body was so cold that it shook, just like that night two years ago…

Just as the memories and emotions were threatening to drown Su Kexin, a wheelchair suddenly appeared before her eyes, with a pair of long, slender, and straight legs on top of them.

Su Kexin blinked and raised her head with some difficulty to see Gu Chi in front of her, with Yang Zuo next to him holding an umbrella.

The heavy veil of rain hid Gu Chi’s handsome face, and his aura was as cold as ever. Although he was sitting in a wheelchair, his sudden appearance right now made him seem like a god that shattered all of the sorrow in Su Kexin’s heart.

Su Kexin’s eyelashes trembled slightly.

Gu Chi?

“What are you doing here?” Gu Chi looked down at Su Kexin, crouching on the floor. For reasons even he could not explain, there was a vague sense of anger in his voice. “You ran in the rain?”

Only then did Su Kexin react.

She tried to stand up in a panic, but the moment she stood up, her vision suddenly turned black and she lost consciousness.

Gu Chi was taken aback as well, but he reacted quickly and caught Su Kexin with a steady hand.

When he felt how abnormally hot the woman in his arms was, Gu Chi’s gaze darkened. He lowered his eyes and looked at the red spot where Gu Yihan had pinched Su Kexin’s chin, his black pupils dilating imperceptibly.

“Let’s go back.” The change in his expression lasted but a second, and soon Gu Chi was back to normal. After he said that softly, he carried Su Kexin and wheeled his wheelchair toward the black Bentley.

Gu Chi’s car was parked in a hidden corner of the subway, but because Su Kexin and Gu Chi were both weighing down on the chair, the wheelchair could not slide into the car as it usually did.

“Young Master Gu,” Yang Zuo could not help but say. “Let me do it.”

“There’s no need for that,” Gu Chi replied calmly, to Yang Zuo’s surprise. Gu Chi just adjusted Su Kexin’s position in his arms and lifted her up in a princess carry. He then stood up from the wheelchair and walked into the car!
