Chapter 25

The room was so pitch-black that she could not see anything at all.

No, wait!

Su Kexin’s daze cleared somewhat, and she struggled, trying to push off the person pinning her down… but it was already too late.

After an endless sea of darkness and pain, her surroundings suddenly changed.

It was a raging storm, with thunder and lightning piercing through the sky.

Su Kexin dragged her bruised body and tried to pull together her shredded clothes as she stumbled through the storm. She held her phone in her hand, calling the same number again and again in a frenzy.

‘Han…

‘Where are you, Han…?

‘I’m really scared, please come save me…’

However, no matter how she tried to call the number, all she heard was an icy female voice—

“Sorry, the number you have dialed is unavailable. Please try again later.”

Finally, Su Kexin could not hold herself up anymore. She fell onto the soaking floor in the rain...

Gu Chi looked at Su Kexin, who was covered in a cold sweat as she lay on the bed. His thin brows narrowed, and he looked at the doctor who was giving her a drip. “Is she really alright?”

“Don’t worry, Young Master Gu. The Young Madam is just having a fever from the cold. She’s probably having a nightmare right now.”

Only then did Gu Chi’s brows relax somewhat.

After the doctor left the room, Gu Chi looked at Su Kexin’s pale face and reached out his hand to touch her forehead, but just then, Su Kexin’s entire body began to shudder slightly.

“Su Kexin?” Gu Chi could not help but frown again. “Are you alright?”

Su Kexin was clearly still out of it, and her white lips opened slightly. She seemed to be mumbling something.

Gu Chi frowned even deeper and bent down slightly. Only then could he hear what Su Kexin was mumbling—

“Han… Save me… Where are you… Han… Please believe me…”

Han?

Gu Chi straightened up, his gaze turning somewhat dark.

That was clearly a man’s name.

He looked at Su Kexin, lying on the bed. Although her face was pale and weak, there was still no hiding the gentle beauty in her eyes. Her trembling lashes especially expressed a weakness and reliance that Gu Chi had never before seen her show.

Gu Chi was lost in thought.

Now that he thought about it, it seemed like ever since he first met this woman, she had been careful and distant. There was no sense of reliance at all, as though she had never once thought of relying on him.

In her dreams, however, she relied on and yearned for that man called Han with all her heart.

Gu Chi had asked Yang Zuo to investigate Su Kexin’s past before, but he always prioritized efficiency, so all he knew was a quick summary of the entire story.

For example, he knew that she once had a first love that she took deeply to heart. After that incident two years ago, though, she parted ways with her first love. Gu Chi never asked about her first love’s name and background, but it seemed that this Han must surely be that man she first fell in love with.

When he thought of that, Gu Chi felt inexplicably annoyed.

Just then, Su Kexin suddenly opened her eyes slowly.

Gu Chi hid his thoughts and lowered his head to look at her. “Are you okay?”

Su Kexin blinked and finally realized that she was lying in her room in the manor. She even had a drip in her arm.

“Did you send me back here?” Su Kexin said, her throat feeling like it was on fire.

“Yeah,” Gu Chi replied calmly, giving her a cup of hot water from the bedside drawer.

“Thanks.” Su Kexin accepted the cup and sipped it carefully.

When he saw that Su Kexin was back to her usual distant and polite self, Gu Chi felt even more irritated for some reason.

“Su Kexin,” Gu Chi said suddenly, “who’s Han?”

“Cough cough cough!”

Su Kexin had not expected Gu Chi to suddenly mention that at all, and she immediately choked on the water, coughing violently.

“Be careful.” As opposed to Su Kexin’s panic, Gu Chi just rubbed her back calmly.
