“Well, I’ve always hated the way she treated you,” Lois said, shrugging casually, setting her glass down. “But I would never have guessed that, Lyra. Are you sure? About any of this?”

She searched Lyra’s eyes. Lyra had nothing solid to give her — only the mismatch, the threats, and a fear that had started sleeping in her chest.

“Well,” Lyra said, standing up from the sofa. “There’s only one way to find out. Get some rest, Lois. It’s late, and I still have to show up at the office tomorrow.”

“Well, I’ve always hated the way she treated you,” Lois said, shrugging casually, setting her glass down. “But I would never have guessed that, Lyra. Are you sure? About any of this?”She searched Lyra’s eyes. Lyra had nothing solid to give her — only the mismatch, the threats, and a fear that had started sleeping in her chest.“Well,” Lyra said, standing up from the sofa. “There’s only one way to find out. Get some rest, Lois. It’s late, and I still have to show up at the office tomorrow.”Lois offered a warm smile, stood up, and pulled her into a tight, grounding hug. “I’m going to take a long, hot shower now and try to call my kids.”Lyra nodded softly. Lois walked toward the guest room, pulling the door shut behind her.And Lyra walked back over to the counter and sank onto the high leather stool. She opened her laptop—not to work, not fully—just to stare at the encrypted folder where she had saved the scanned St. Agnes pages. As the screen glowed, her mind drifted to the life gr

Back at Lyra’s new residence, her best friend, Lois Bennett, arrived like a small natural disaster in heels. She took one sweeping look at the luxurious Helios executive apartment—floor-to-ceiling glass, quiet money, and a skyline view that tried entirely too hard—and let out a long, appreciative whistle.“I didn’t realize a messy divorce was a direct gateway to living lavish,” Lois retorted, making Lyra burst into a genuine laugh as she helped carry her friend's luggage toward the guest room.“So this is what ‘complicated’ looks like,” Lois continued, kicking the door shut with her heel. “I brought wine. Looking at you right now, you look like you need a high-priced lawyer and a priest.”They hugged—tightly, holding on like two people who had been separated by an entire ocean for ages. When they finally pulled apart, Lyra offered a faint, exhausted smile. “I need about three days of sleep.”“You need to talk,” Lois countered, setting the wine bottle down on the marble island. She sca

At his apartment in Marina Bay, Tristan walked in heavy, exhausted, and utterly defeated. He sank onto the sofa like a man carrying the weight of a collapsing world. He tossed his tie furiously onto the hardwood floor and began battling with the buttons of his shirt, tearing at them with raw frustration.“Tristan? Are you okay?” Bianca’s worried voice floated out from the sitting room as she hurried over, attempting to sit down beside him—“Ouch!” she winced sharply, jerking away as Tristan abruptly shoved her off.“What was that for?!” she gasped, her eyes widening in hurt as she stared into his bloodshot, wild eyes.He didn't offer a single word of apology. Instead, he stood up unsteadily and walked toward the wet bar to pour himself a heavy glass of liquor.“Who is Benson?” His voice dropped into a low, dead octave that echoed coldly through the quiet living room, making Bianca freeze in her tracks, her heart hammering against her ribs.“What...?” she stammered, blinking rapidly. “

He didn't give her room to retreat, and for the first time all day, Lyra didn't want any.The kiss didn’t stay gentle for long. It was deep, demanding, and born from weeks of dangerous proximity and shared fires.Their hands roamed hungrily. Lyra’s fingers found the front of his shirt, tugging his tie loose, while Laurent’s hands tightened at the back of her neck before slipping down to the zipper of her blouse, pulling her closer until there was zero careful distance left between them.Lyra let out a quiet gasp against his mouth, her hands moving instinctively up to the back of his neck, her fingers tangling tightly into his hair. Laurent’s arm wrapped around her waist like a band of iron, pulling her against his chest until she felt every ragged beat of his heart. The heat radiating between them was intoxicating. He tasted like smoke and expensive scotch, kissing her with a fierce, possessive intensity that made her head spin and her body melt completely against his solid frame.L

The word Helios sat in the glass office like a second, devastating detonation.Tristan found his voice first—raw, strained, and dangerously loud.“You can’t be serious. After everything Coles built with you—”“Coles built nothing with me after you sent her away,” Noah cut him off flatly. “She brought me into this firm. You merely borrowed her competence and called it culture. I’m done subsidizing your collapse.” He turned his back on Tristan and looked directly at Lyra. “I’ll have my legal team contact Helios by morning. I assume Mr. Crawford has no objections to initiating a preliminary discussion?”Amidst the surprise, Lyra felt a flicker of confusion. “You knew him...?”“Come on,” Noah shrugged, a small, knowing glint in his eyes. “I might be old, but I’m far from foolish. For you to walk into my fire and save the day, your new boss had to clear the path.”Lyra couldn't help a faint smile, glancing over at Laurent. He didn't let a full smile break his executive composure, but the q

Security officers from both firms moved simultaneously.Darrell lunged for Tristan again, but Tristan caught his wrists mid-air, a quick, wild left hook catching Darrell flush across the cheek. The glass office instantly erupted into shouting, the sharp scrape of heavy leather chairs, and the ugly, violent sound of a corporate partnership disintegrating in real time.“Enough!”Lyra’s voice cut through the chaos—not a scream, but an absolute, razor-sharp command. She stood up from her chair, looking at both of them with profound disgust. “Do neither of you have an ounce of shame left?!”Helios tactical security immediately stepped into the breach, physically forcing the two men apart. Coles’s own internal security guards froze in place, utterly unsure whose authority ranked higher in a building that no longer felt like anyone was in control.Laurent didn't raise his voice. If anything, a low, amused chuckle threatened to break past his lips as he enjoyed every second of the spectacle
