Chapter 123

Author: Hello Spring
One of the men barked, “Which one of you is Dr. Sanders?!”

Seeing the fury in his eyes, Jack arched a brow and casually pointed at William.

“Him.”

The man’s glare swung to William. “You’re the one who told my dad to transfer hospitals or find another doctor?!”

William lifted his gaze, his expression cool. “Yes. Why?”

The man let out a harsh laugh and slammed his palm down on the desk. “As his attending physician, you told him to transfer before surgery. Are you trying to kill my father?!”

The blow was so heavy the desk rattled.

Jack flinched and quickly stood, edging toward the door. Disputes like this—angry families—were common for William. It was best to let him handle it.

William’s expression didn’t change. “Yesterday I had the nurses remind you several times to make sure the patient didn’t eat or drink. Yet this morning he had breakfast. If we had gone ahead with anesthesia without knowing, there’s a good chance he wouldn’t have made it off the table.”

The man faltered for

Over the past few years, the Smith family had certainly lost some of its former influence, but that didn’t mean a small-time family like the Harrises had the right to strut in here and throw their weight around.Mr. Harris’s smile stiffened. “Mrs. Smith Sr., I know you’re angry about the foolish things Victoria did. I would be too. The thought that she actually went so far as to smear Ms. Smith online over a petty conflict makes me deeply ashamed. That was my failure as a father.”His words carried a ring of sincerity, as if he truly regretted what had happened.Mrs. Smith Sr. wasn’t swayed. “Mr. Harris, what your daughter did isn’t something you can brush aside with a few soft words. And you don’t need to test me. My granddaughter’s stance is my stance. You can leave now.”Mr. Harris’s expression darkened. Anger burned inside him, but he didn’t dare let it show toward either Mrs. Smith Sr. or Liz. His company was already hanging by a thread. The smallest push could finish it off.

After thinking it over for a long time, Victoria finally decided to face Liz first. If Liz still refused to forgive her, then she would tear the mask off completely and stop pretending.Meanwhile, Liz had gone home. After resting for a while, she pulled out a suitcase and began packing. Once it was full, she stopped. One suitcase of clothes and essentials was more than enough for her temporary stay at the Smith family estate. She left it by the door, took her pajamas, and headed for a shower before going to bed.The next morning, she brought the suitcase with her to the hospital and handed it to Mrs. Wood.Every day, Mrs. Wood traveled back and forth to the hospital, with the family’s driver picking her up and dropping her off.Spotting the luggage, Mrs. Wood smiled. “Ms. Liz, I’ll just leave this in your room at the estate. I’ve already cleaned it up for you, so you can move right in whenever you’re ready.”Liz nodded. “Alright. Thank you, Mrs. Wood.”“It’s no trouble. You go

Wendy stood frozen for several seconds before she finally found her voice.“Ms. Smith, I’m sorry. I really don’t know what else to do. If you want to sue me, I’ll accept it. But please, just help me one last time. Use your connections, help me raise some money. I’ll tell the whole truth in court and clear your name.”Liz’s expression didn’t soften. “Justice is something I can fight for on my own. As for money, I can’t help you with that.”She would do everything she could for her clients, but that didn’t mean she would tolerate betrayal without limit. What Wendy had done had already crossed her bottom line. She would neither forgive her nor come to her aid. Some people simply weren’t worth pity. Help them once, and the next chance they got, they would turn on you again.“Ms. Smith, are you really this heartless? Do you really want to drive me and my son to our deaths?” Wendy cried.Liz didn’t even break stride. She walked straight into the apartment building without looking back.

Liz opened her messages and scrolled through. Two of the listings caught her eye—the décor was exactly her style. She forwarded them to the agent and told him she liked both.He replied right away, asking if she was free that evening. If so, he could take her to see the apartments in person. They agreed on seven o’clock. After setting her phone aside, Liz went to the kitchen to start lunch. By late afternoon, Mrs. Wood arrived to take over at the hospital, and Liz packed up her things to leave.“Don’t forget to start organizing your stuff,” Mrs. Smith Sr. reminded her before she left. “If you don’t have time, I’ll send a couple of the house staff to help.”Liz shook her head immediately. “No need. I’ll do it myself in the next couple of days.”She never liked anyone else going through her belongings. Besides, she only planned to stay at the family estate for a short while. There was no need to move her whole life back in and then have to pack it all again later.“Alright. Just dr

“Shut up!”Mrs. Smith Sr.’s roar startled Michael so badly he froze in place. He looked at his mother and saw her face flushed, her whole body trembling. Alarmed, he rushed forward to steady her.“Mom, what’s wrong—”Smack! Her hand shot out and struck him across the face.Michael reeled from the slap, stunned. She hadn’t laid a hand on him since he was a boy. Even when he cut ties with Liz years ago, she had only argued with him, then ignored him for over a year. But she had actually hit him today. He stood there dazed, the bright red handprint burning on his cheek as he stared at her. “Mom, why did you hit me?”Her glare was ice cold. “Why shouldn’t I? When Liz came back into this family, you chose to favor Mandy. I held my tongue. You and Kimberly raised her, so of course you had feelings for her. I didn’t agree with it, but I let it go. But now? Now an outsider humiliates your own daughter, and instead of standing up for her, you side with the outsider? Michael, do you even

Mrs. Smith Sr. didn’t want Liz to work herself so hard. She wished Liz could be like the other girls in the Smith family—carefree, never needing to worry about making a living, free to do whatever she liked and simply be happy. But she also knew that no matter how much money she gave her, Liz would never stop working. The lack of parental love in her childhood had left a wound that nothing could fill as an adult.“Just don’t push yourself too hard,” Mrs. Smith Sr. said softly. “You need balance. Earning money matters, but so does taking care of your health.”Liz nodded. “I know, Grandma.”Before the moment could linger, the door to the hospital room swung open. Both women turned their heads as Michael strode in, his face dark. Liz’s expression didn’t shift. She stood calmly and said, “Grandma, I’ll go check what we’re having for lunch.”“Alright,” Mrs. Smith Sr. replied. But before Liz could step toward the kitchen, Michael’s voice cut in, sharp with irritation. “Wait. I have s
