Chapter 145

Author: Hello Spring
The two of them chatted as they walked through the gated community. Soon, they arrived at Ms. Wilson’s condo.

The moment Liz stepped inside, her breath caught. The living room looked almost identical to the photos, down to the smallest detail. The cream-toned décor was exactly her style—bright, cozy, and elegant without being overwhelming.

“Come, let me show you the bedroom,” Ms. Wilson said warmly.

One glance at the airy, minimalist bedroom and Liz was even more smitten. The space was simple yet refined, a balance that felt instantly comfortable. She checked the bathroom and kitchen too, each clean and thoughtfully designed. By the time she finished, she was already tempted to sign on the spot.

“Ms. Wilson, with rent this low, I imagine a lot of people want this place,” Liz remarked.

Ms. Wilson smiled and nodded. “You’re right, quite a few have inquired. But I’m picky about tenants. Since Dr. Sanders referred you, I felt I could trust you. That’s why I agreed to show it tonight.”

Compared to facing Liz’s lawsuit, posting a public apology online was a light punishment. But the thought of everyone she knew—friends, colleagues, and family—seeing that statement made Victoria’s stomach twist with humiliation.“I understand,” she muttered.“Then start drafting the statement right now,” Mr. Harris snapped. “Do you have any idea how much trouble you’ve caused me this time? Let me be clear. From now on, you’re staying home. You’re not going anywhere. If you cross Liz again, I’ll cut off every single one of your cards.”The threat hit home. For Victoria, that was very real.“Don’t worry. From now on, if I even see Liz from a distance, I’ll walk the other way.”“You’d better.”That evening, while Liz was having dinner with Mrs. Smith Sr., she saw Victoria’s apology posted online. The statement detailed the entire scheme—how she had recruited Wendy to smear Liz and even included evidence.Within minutes, it shot to the top of trending. The same people who had once d

“Come in.”Liz turned her head just as one of the house staff pushed the bedroom door open. She was still standing by the window, framed by the blooming winter camellias behind her, looking so striking it was as if she had stepped out of a painting. The maid’s eyes flickered with surprise before she quickly lowered her gaze.“Ms. Smith, the Harrises are here. Mrs. Smith Sr. asked me to bring you out.”Liz arched a brow. The Harrises must be desperate about the lawsuit, otherwise they wouldn’t have rushed over the moment her grandmother was discharged.“Alright. I’ll be right there.”When Liz entered the sitting room, Mr. Harris was making small talk with her grandmother while Victoria sat silently to the side, head bowed. At the sound of footsteps, Mr. Harris turned, relief flashing across his face. “Ms. Smith, there you are. We’ve been waiting quite a while.”“Mr. Harris,” Liz greeted calmly, taking a seat beside her grandmother.Without wasting a second, he leaned forward. “

“Alright then, William. Are you free tonight?”Liz’s eyes sparkled, clear and bright, like sunlight on water. After only a couple of seconds of meeting her gaze, William looked away a little too quickly, his composure slipping.“I have a surgery tonight. I probably won’t have time.”Liz didn’t notice his unease. She kept smiling. “What about tomorrow night?”“That should be fine. Nothing planned.”“Great. Then tomorrow it is. If something comes up, we can always reschedule.”“Alright.”*Back in the hospital room, Mrs. Smith Sr. noticed the smile on Liz’s face and blinked in surprise.“Liz, what’s got you in such a good mood today?”“I found an apartment. The lease is signed, and I can move in at the end of the month. The style is exactly what I like.”“That’s all it takes to make you this happy?”“Of course. I’ll go make breakfast.”Humming a tune, Liz walked into the kitchen and had everything ready within half an hour.Just as they finished eating, William came by with

Liz froze for a moment, her eyes lifting to meet William’s.“What are the odds?”He smiled at her surprise. “I didn’t expect it either. But it still depends on whether you like the place.”Liz gave a small nod. “Alright. Thanks for helping.”They parted ways in the parking lot. Once inside his car, William pulled out his phone and dialed.“You still got that condo at Crestwood Heights?”A clear male voice answered, “Yeah. Why?”“Do me a favor.”*Meanwhile, Liz drove to the complex where she had arranged to meet the agent. He was already waiting out front. She hurried over, and together they went to view the apartments. The moment she stepped inside, Liz realized the reality didn’t match the glossy photos she had seen online. The units were older, more worn down, and the hygiene was questionable. Mold had crept into several corners. Living long-term in that environment would be a health risk.Noticing her expression, the agent said quickly, “Ms. Smith, in this neighborhood,

Liz looked at Mrs. Smith Sr. with a gentle smile. “Grandma, do you want me to keep pursuing the lawsuit, or do you want me to drop it and forgive Victoria?”Mrs. Smith Sr. chuckled at the way Liz threw the question back at her.“That’s for you to decide. I can’t make that choice for you. Whatever you choose, I’ll stand behind you.”The steady warmth in her grandmother’s eyes filled Liz with a rush of emotion.Mrs. Smith Sr. understood the stakes. If Liz pressed forward, word would spread quickly through their entire social circle. People in families like theirs rarely went to court. It was considered undignified. But even knowing it would cost the Smiths some pride, her grandmother still chose to support her.Liz’s eyes stung, and after a long moment she finally whispered, “Grandma, I’ve decided to drop the case. I’ll make her apologize publicly. That’s punishment enough. Holding on any longer doesn’t serve me.”Surprise flickered across Mrs. Smith Sr.’s face. Her brows drew to
