Chapter 4

Author: Noorie
Anger and irritation flared in Alieus's s golden eyes.

He stared down at me, his voice dangerously low but controlled.

"Break our bond? Never. Even if I no longer love you, you are my fated bond. I’ll never let you go."

He leaned in, ensuring every syllable carried the weight of his Alpha aura.

"Lyra, I have given you nothing but respect. If I owe a debt of devotion to anyone, it is Elena. I couldn't grant her the title of Luna. Yet, she stayed by my side during the bloodiest years of the territory wars without a single official title."

He turned away from me, dropping to one knee in the slush. Pulling a heavy, starlight-sapphire ring from his tunic, he looked up at her with profound reverence.

It wasn't just an ordinary ring; it was a Blackwood crest artifact he once promised to give to me when I would give him a child. Seems like people’s hearts just change so fast.

"The laws forbid me from keeping another mate while I’m already bonded with someone, but I will give you the grandest ceremony this continent has ever seen. I will let every alpha from here to the coast know that you are the true sovereign of my heart and that your child is my only heir."

Elena covered her mouth, her eyes welling with tears, but she subtly pulled away, looking down with a fragile, tragic expression.

"I cannot accept this, Alieus. I love you enough to live as a shadow, content to bear your pups in secret. But I will not be paraded as a usurper before the high courts."

"Unless..."

She slowly turned her gaze toward me, her tear-stained face suddenly sharp with malice.

"Unless Luna herself bows to the baby in my womb at the altar. Let her bear witness before the entire assembly, proving that the wolf inside my womb is just so important that Luna herself takes care of me."

I met her spiteful gaze with a face carved of stone. She wanted me to kneel before the pup who was the reason for my pup’s brutal murder.

Alieus, seeing my absolute silence, let out a low, menacing growl.

"Lyra, do not forget that your ancestors' sacred burial mounds sit directly within my territories."

"You wouldn't want their spirits disturbed, and their graves upturned the way your mother's grove just was, would you?"

A phantom blade tore through the center of my chest, making the taste of blood rise in my throat. I nodded slowly.

"I will kneel before Elena in front of everyone."

Elena wept with joy, throwing her arms around Alieus's neck. He immediately swept her away to prepare for the grand ceremony, but as he crossed the threshold of the territory gate, he paused.

He looked back at me, his voice returning to a calm, transactional tone.

"Lyra, it is merely a ritual. It does not strip you of your legal shelter in the lower compound. For the next moon cycle, you are exempt from pack labor. Just serve Elena in the meantime. Consider it my compensation to you."

I murmured a quiet agreement, and he left, satisfied with his own mercy.

On the morning of the Ceremony, Elena sat before the grand mirror, suddenly sighing heavily.

"Luna Lyra, the smoke from the ritual braziers is making me faint. Can you make me a drink?”

Alieus frowned, his protective instincts kicking in as he glanced at me.

I kept my eyes trained on the floor. Stepping forward, I sank to my knees in front of her and poured the drink into her glass.

Alieus’s expression grew deeply conflicted. His jaw tightened, and he took a step toward me as if a buried piece of his old wolf wanted to speak, but Elena gently pressed her hand against his chest.

"My Alpha, I think this dress is too tight. Can you please bring the designer to check the fittings?”

Alieus offered her a tender smile, brushing a stray hair from her forehead before walking out.

The moment the heavy oak door clicked shut, Elena’s foot slammed brutally into my sternum.

The force threw me back against the stone floor. She looked down at me from her velvet chair, her face twisted in absolute contempt.

"Lyra, you honestly believe you're Alieus's first love he can't get rid of?”

"You don't know. I've been Alieus’s hidden anchor for ten years, too."

The moment these words escaped their lips, Alieus took a sigh of relief. A half-confident laughter echoed in the banquet hall as he said, “Now I understand. You have all joined hands with Lyra to spread rumours against me and frame Elena, all because she is jealous of our happiness. Isn't it?” “Elena is right. Lyra must have set up this all.” He added. “Enough!” Suddenly, a loud voice echoed from the crowd. It was the High Summon. He stepped forward. “I would have let this matter slide if you wanted to live in delusion, Alpha Alieus. But, since you keep blaming Lady Lyra, who is the daughter of the late High Summon of the court, I can't stay quiet.” Just then, a scroll flashed through the screen with a royal stamp on it. It was the report of Alieus's sterility. Mentioned clearly, he could not sire an heir. He stared at the words, his face turning whiter by the second. "Impossible.""Nonsense. It has to be fake."He looked up, his voice almost out of control. "If I really am steri

The next second. The heavy oak doors at the back of the banquet hall groaned open. The Alphas of the rival packs and Alieus’s sworn enemies walked in, their faces laced with a mocking smile. “Alpha Alieus is so generous to call his army back from our territory just before announcing his union with his new mate.”“So, we have come here to thank Lady Elena personally. We have also brought a precious gift in return.”The moment Elena heard this, her eyes lit up. Alieus’s eyes darkened as he watched Elena drool over his enemy's words. But he didn't stop her. Between them, A man walked in wearing an Armor of Alieus’s sworn enemies' pack. Alieus's eyes narrowed. He recognized the man instantly. It was the same person Elena had introduced him to as her saviour and asked him to help him with gold and diamonds. “If Lady Elena hadn't helped me with the gold and diamonds, we would have lost the war ages ago. Thanks, Lady Elena, for helping even your Alpha’s enemies. You are truly very generous

Elena’s eyes flushed a vivid, panicked crimson. She looked completely terrified, her voice trembling violently as she scrambled to cover her mistake."Alieus... let me explain..."Her face was deathly pale, tears spilling over her eyelashes one after another."Luna Lyra’s mother was a high-class shaman, and if she wants my pup dead, there is no way anyone can save it. I just don't want anyone to be hopeful." She bit her lower lip so hard it bled, her voice choking up with feigned grief. "Luna has already begun spreading false rumours just because she is jealous of my pup. I can't let her ruin your image. It's better if I don't ever give birth to your pup, Alpha?"Alieus’s entire frame shuddered. The next second, his dominant instinct took over. He reached out, pulling her tightly against his chest."Elena, don't speak such madness," he commanded, his voice hoarse. "The pup is innocent."Elena trembled in his embrace, sobbing in ragged hiccups. Alieus’s heart wrenched at her distress,

Hearing my name, Alieus froze for a fraction of a second. Then his low growl dissolved into a mocking laugh."Lyra?" Alieus scoffed, his amber eyes flashing with dangerous amusement. “What black magic did she do to make you believe such nonsense, High Shaman?"High Shaman trembled, lowering his head. "Alpha, I swear on the Goddess—"Alieus cut him off, his voice dropping into a lethal, ice-cold register. "Is this her pathetic attempt to drive a wedge between Elena and me? To spread rumors through the pack so everyone thinks Elena's pup isn't mine?"He let out a sharp, bitter laugh."Go back and tell her that I don't buy her desperate mind games. Her tricks are so transparent they sicken me. If I’m so impotent, then tell me—how did she get pregnant? Did she magically conceive a bastard with a rogue?"High Shaman’s face drained of color. He reached for the medical charts, his hands shaking. "Alpha, the blood work... the silver-resonance test results show—"Alieus had completely lost his

Seeing the sudden stillness in my eyes, she let out a cruel, mocking laugh."Alieus said I was too fragile, too delicate to be exposed to his enemies while he was still struggling to build his army. So he let you play the public Luna while he gave his true loyalty to me."“He was so possessive of me back then that he went to beat the Lycan Prince for me after he shot just a glance over me. I wonder if he has ever done something as outrageous as this for you.”A violent tremor shook my entire frame. That night, I had begged everyone sitting in Lycan King’s court just to spare Alieus, for he was drunk. But it seems that the only person who was not in a state of seeing through right or wrong was not Alieus but me. My mate was fighting for his mistress while I was actually defending him. How foolish can anyone be as I was before? How could I not see through him before?Elena’s voice kept piercing through the fog of my shock, pulling me back to the horrific reality."And then you became pr
