Loriann's POV
"Lori, I have a date with Alpha Romero."
A wide smiling Meg dribbles onto the chair opposite me. Her blue eyes are bright and her long black hair moves with the shake of her head as she looks at me. It is clear that she is thrilled with this opportunity that many long for but were too fearful of the consequences.
Right now, I am sitting in the school cafeteria at our regular place. I had been concentrating on reading a science website on my iPad while waiting for Meg to finish with the teacher. Her exclamation is like a sword slicing through my body.
'Goddess, not my only friend. Not Meg,' I pray to myself. I would hate myself if I had to get rid of her too. Like Louise, I would have to kill her, since her parents would most definitely not move out of Eclipse Howl. They are high ranking, maybe not of the highest level but still important enough for the pack. With widened eyes, I stare at her while frantically trying to contain myself.
"Aren't you happy for me? Ah, never mind, I won't hear from you anyway". She continues to waggle enthusiastically on her chair. But then she suddenly grabs my hand and gets in my face. "It's a scheme. The Beta has asked me to help investigate the matter surrounding the Alpha's disappearing girlfriends".
Relieved, I smile now and stare back into her eyes. Saved. I don't have to eliminate my friend. And then she tells me about Romero and his Beta's plan. So the Alpha suspects someone is behind his failed love life and wants to trap him. He thinks someone wants to make his life miserable. The painful part is that he doesn't get the idea that maybe he owes someone or has something to make up for.
My thoughts go back to that one day, fifteen years ago when Romero and I were in the playground of the preschool. Little Alpha had climbed up the steps of the slide without permission, out of sight of the teachers. And when he wanted to sit down to start his slide, one of his hands holding a bar got loose and he came down at high speed, unbalanced. At one point he was sliding down diagonally his head aimed at the bottom bars of the slide.
Without thinking, I ran towards him and dropped myself at the bottom of the slide breaking his fall. To his luck, he landed in the sand without injury. His scream had attracted the attention of the teachers, who rooted to the ground before rushing to his aid.
But a few had also looked after me, helping me stand up and wipe the sand off my dress. Of course, the Alpha and Luna had run to the school in wolf form to check on their only son.
"Thank Lori for saving your life, dear. You don't have a wolf yet, if you were seriously injured you would have to heal all by yourself," the Luna had gently persuaded him. "And might even have been left with injuries". Without hesitation, the future Alpha had run to me, wrapped his arms firmly around my neck and kissed me on the cheek.
"Thank you, Lori. You saved my life. That's why you will be my Luna. Once I grow up and my wolf is ready, I will make you my Luna and I will love you so much. Just like my Dad loves my Mom," he had childishly promised. All the adults around us burst into laughter. The Principal had even taken a picture of us at that moment which is still in the yearbook today.
From that day on, he had always been considerate of me at school. Every day he would bring extra pieces of meat and salad to share with me in the lunchroom. Like a true gentleman, he would put my portion on a napkin before starting his own meal. This went on until we were 10.
Then my parents, both pack doctors, were called by the Alpha to meet him in his office. Smiling broadly, they returned home to tell me the news. Alpha Thoseo asked them to assist Crescent Moon because their pack doctor had unexpectedly died. They had some members at the medical university but they were not yet fully qualified to run a hospital.
My parents had agreed because two other doctors were working in our pack hospital and they wanted a change of scenery. None of them had noticed how this news had affected me; I cried silently all those nights until we left. Saying goodbye to the future Alpha was hard, it took me months to come to terms with the loss of his closeness.
As Meg narrates the plan she has drawn up with the Beta, I take my wallet out of my handbag. Opening it, I see the withered rose there. It no longer has the fresh red color, the fresh scent is also mostly gone. But to me, it is more valuable than the most expensive precious metal.
I sniff it a few times like a junky on the purest of drugs.
"And of course, you're coming with me, Lori. Beta Jace is looking forward to getting to know you better," Meg suddenly remarks. And with that, she immediately demands my undivided attention. Why would the Beta want to meet me? We are from the same pack so he knows who I am, he even knows my parents very well.
"I warned him it will be a monologue. You barely utter a word. The Moon Goddess alone knows how the Beta can single-handedly keep the conversation going". At that, she bursts into uncontrollable laughter and pats me on the shoulders amicably.
I chuckle sheepishly, Meg is the only one in the pack, apart from my parents of course, who can put up with me. She loves her own voice so much, and has so much to say, that my silence is to her advantage. She can rattle on for hours, without expecting an answer. So our friendship is satisfactory for both of us.
I don't know how this will all play out, but I am curious to see how this day will continue. Finally, I get a chance to approach Romero very closely and test again whether he recognizes me....
Sixteen years later...It's a family reunion, Alpha Alvarez and Luna Meg have just arrived in Eclipse Howl, accompanied by their Betas Zalev and Louise of Blue Blood. They are guests of Lori and Romero for the annual family reunion. Cliara and Hedrick are on their way, late as usual. They keep complaining that it is high season and they are having trouble finding seats on the plane. They have turned down several offers from Romero and Zane to pick them up by jet. This couple just likes to arrive late to make a grand entrance. Beta Jace desperately tries to keep the barbecue going until the meat is done. He has already burned himself a few times due to his inexperience. But he is determined to prove himself, and Romero stands with his hands at his sides, shaking his head as he watches his heroics. "Please Latore, wear a shirt anyway. You are on your own time, a shirt is uncomfortable at a barbecue," Lori tries to persuade her
Future Alpha Romero's POV "Lori, baby. Come to me. Come here, my fated Luna." I hold out my hand, calling her to me pleadingly. She hesitates, a confused look on her face. The witch nudges her from behind and she finally moves. She walks towards me with cautious steps. And then I noticed that her clothes were odd. She is dressed in black, and the cap does not match the event at all. But then she has a bow and arrow in one hand and a spear in the other. And I immediately understood what she was up to. This Luna is still fighting for her place in my life. When she was a few steps away from me, she suddenly sobered up. She looked wildly at the props in her hands and let them go, dropping them to the floor. The sound was sharp in the silence. Shaking my head, I grip her upper arms and pull her into my embrace. Our lips meet in a searing kiss and I have to stop myself, mindful of our guests who are still waiting in silence. "You didn't have to
Loriann's POVIt's all fun with the girls.Louise, Rachel and I tease the newly mated as they shyly stare at us. Meg proudly shows off her mark, a blue moon with a wolf's head in it. Cliara seems to have one too; Hedrick must have wanted to make sure she didn't change her mind. "I couldn't imagine before how great it would be to be mated. I was afraid I wouldn't be enough for him. So I hid my insecurities behind that arrogant attitude. Everyone thought I would know exactly what to do when I met him one day," Cliara sighed. "Hedrick is amazing. His time among humans has only been good for his character. He helped me get over my anger and desire for revenge." Louise rolls her eyes. "Good? The debauchery over there is unbelievable. At least I used to stay away from mated wolves, human girls don't differentiate. Even if the men are married, they have relationships. But werewolves are saved, the Moon Goddess united the souls of mates. If one mate is adulterous
Future Alpha Romero's POVDamn it!This is not going as I had planned. My mother has thwarted the most important part of my plans for tonight. I wanted to keep Lori with me, there is something in her aura that forces me to be vigilant. Would she leave if it turned out that someone else was my fated?Hell, no! She won't leave, I won’t allow that. My cubs and I need her here, with us. Today I am ready to challenge the Moon Goddess if she appointed another she-wolf for me. I want Lori, with all her flaws. I know she is not the innocence itself, her looks are deceptive.Keeping my pups a secret as her title of Master in Martial Arts, the coldness to join our search for the one who torpedoed my dating life, and then the revelation from the rogues that she was the one who chased away all my crushes out of the pack. Well, that doesn't exactly fit the profile of the quiet, withdrawn girl at school. No, innocent is definitely not the word fit for my Lori. But she will be the perfect Luna to ke
Still Loriann's POVEverything stayed the same. When we finally land at Eclipse Howl, we are stunned by the crowd waiting for us. Not only wolves from our pack but also from the surrounding area have come to greet us. I suspect this is all out of curiosity, all the attention Romero and I are getting on social media hasn't gone unnoticed. We have become the talk of the werewolf community. We step onto the platform like two red-carpet celebrities. Romero's arm grips me tightly; the man has no intention of letting me go tonight. A storm of cheers erupts as Jace rushes up the steps to join us."Romero, there is a traffic jam at our gates, wolves from distant packs have traveled for hours to be here. Your birthday and the mating are of great interest to them. Man, I really hope this ends well." Sweat broke out on the Beta's forehead as his eyes flicked between his Alpha and me. Smiling confidently, Romero kisses the side of my face."Tonight we're going big. W
Again, Loriann's POVRomero's head jerks up and he locks eyes with me.The tension falls from his face, I see the love of the past few days filling his eyes. He's clearly surprised by my answer, it's obviously not what he expected. "Is that so, Lori? What if I ask you to prove it? Your mere words are of no use to me".I lick my upper lip, not sure where this conversation is heading. It is not me who has to prove something here, it is he who has to keep his promise, be strong enough to deliver. This damned mate bond could make him forget everything, including me. "Try me, Romero. You don't even know what I am capable of," I challenge him. I now have his full attention. For him, too, our conversation is starting to become very important. "Tell me what all our nights here have meant to you. We lived together in the packhouse, but I wanted to make special memories here. Did I succeed?""Perfectly, baby. It has been an amazing few days. Enough g
