Chapter 3

Autor: Frog
By the time we reached Sicily, I was so drained I could barely stand. I had just made it inside when I saw a simple meal waiting on the dining table. Everything was light and easy on the stomach.

Raphael's name lit up my phone. "Sofia, I had the cook prepare something light for you ahead of time. Consider the boat ride your punishment for slandering Lia. You know how important it is for a pregnant woman to stay calm."

I gripped the phone. "Raphael, if no one had told me there was a wedding ceremony, why would I have rushed to Lipari by boat? You know I could have taken a helicopter. The only reason I'd take a boat is if it was urgent."

Raphael grew impatient. "Sofia, I used to think you were weak, but at least you were kind. Why do you keep slandering Lia? If you still can't see what you did wrong, you won't be using the plane or helicopter anytime soon."

I could hear Aurelia talking sweetly to him in the background. Raphael hung up before I could say another word. I clutched my phone and bit my lip, but I couldn't hold back the tears.

When I was six, a group of boys came to our family estate. My father told me to choose one of them to stay with me. They all tried their hardest to impress me. All except Raphael. He stood alone in a corner, his green eyes dull and empty. Something about him caught my attention, so I pointed at him and told my father, "I want that one."

When I was eight, my father died. I hid under my blanket and cried. Raphael crawled under it with me and wrapped his arms around me. "It's okay. I'm going to be Princess Sofia's only knight from now on!"

But Raphael, you're the one hurting me the most now. I sat at the table and watched my food slowly grow cold. Whatever love and patience he'd once had for me was almost gone. The thought made my tears fall even harder.

Aurelia was different. She was the orphaned daughter of a man who had been like a brother to my father and uncle. She came to live with us when she was six. My father always said she had lost both her parents, so I should let her have her way. After he died, my uncle spoiled her even more.

Raphael was the only one who ever stood up for me. Aurelia knew I was terrified of bugs and snakes, so she'd throw them at me and call it a joke. Whenever she did, Raphael would pick them up and angrily shove them down the back of her dress. Aurelia would run crying to my uncle, and Raphael would always be punished.

Back then, I was the only one Raphael saw. Now, I'd lost both the family I loved and the man I thought would always be mine.

I choked back tears. I locked myself in the bathroom and sobbed until I had no tears left. Completely exhausted, I eventually cried myself to sleep. Even then, a faint, nagging ache remained low in my stomach.

A shrill phone call woke me the next day. Vincenzo's angry voice blasted through the phone. "How could my brother have had a daughter like you? There's a video of you all over the internet, covered in your own filth on that boat and threatening a crewman. You'd better pray this doesn't hurt the family reputation. We won't accept an heiress with a scandal like this hanging over her head."

I grabbed my phone and opened social media. My name was at the top of the trending list. I clicked on it and was hit with a flood of vicious comments. I could barely stand to read them.

I immediately called Raphael. "Have the media take my name off the trending list. Now."

Raphael sounded exhausted when he answered. "Sofia, I started dealing with it as soon as the video blew up yesterday, but it spread too fast. You shouldn't have threatened that crewman. Even our men have a problem with you now."

My voice shook with anger. "That crewman insulted me first! And someone deliberately edited that video to make me look bad. You know that, Raphael!"

Raphael fell silent for a moment. "The underboss is furious. He wants you to make a public statement. Once your seasickness is under control, you'll film it on the yacht. Tell everyone the woman in the video was an impostor trying to smear the Ferraro family."

I stared at the phone in disbelief. "What did you say? You know exactly how bad my seasickness is!"

Raphael's voice softened as he tried to reassure me. "It's fine, Sofia. The underboss is sending Lia to help you with the treatment. You'll get through it. I have business to deal with. You caused this mess, so you need to fix it."

He hung up before I could answer. A moment later, the doorbell started ringing nonstop.

  • You Want My Throne? Never   Chapter 10

We barely slept on our wedding night, and the honeymoon wasn't much different. Whenever we had enough energy, we ended up back in bed.It got to the point where even I had to beg Marco for mercy. He was clearly out of breath too, but that smug grin never left his face. I got so annoyed that I kicked him off the bed. After the honeymoon, I was even more certain I'd made the right choice. At my checkup, the doctor found a gestational sac. My joy quickly gave way to fear.If we'd kept up our wedding-night pace for another month, I wasn't sure the baby would've made it.Marco looked a little guilty too. But once he realized I wasn't really angry, he broke into a grin. "Sofia, we're having a baby! Look what our love made!"I smiled and placed his hand over my belly.Nine months later, I gave birth to a beautiful girl. We named her Regina Ferraro.Marco was so happy that his hands were shaking. "Sweetheart, this is our child. Our family just grew."I lay in the hospital bed and held his hand

Marco went to the interrogation room himself to deal with Raphael. Aurelia's injuries were too severe, and she didn't survive. Raphael was tortured and then dumped in Bellini territory to beg on the streets.Marco rested his head against me, his arms wrapped around my waist as he grumbled. "Baby, without you, an orphan in Sicily would never have made it this far. And after everything he's done, you're still letting him live."I ran my fingers through his hair, amused. "Once he's watched our grand wedding, you can do whatever you want with him."Marco's eyes lit up, and he immediately sat up. "Baby, I spent all those years loving you from the sidelines, and you never once looked my way! Do you know how painful that was? Don't you think you should make it up to me?"Marco gave me a suggestive grin and started pulling off his shirt as he leaned closer. My eyes swept over his gorgeous body, and I licked my lips. "Of course. We can go all night. Whoever gives up first has to bark."Marco gr

The car pulled up in front of the family estate, and Marco was already waiting by the door.He came over, opened my door, and took my hand as I got out. "Sweetheart, how are you feeling?"I smiled at him. "Better than I've ever felt in my life."After my father died, I deliberately hid how well I did in training so Vincenzo would think more highly of Raphael. When Aurelia came to live with us, my father's words always hung over me. I was expected to give in to her no matter what. Now, two of the people who had weighed me down for years were finally out of my way. Of course I felt better. There was only one left. With that in mind, I took Marco's arm and walked into the house. Vincenzo sat in the living room, leaning on his cane with a deep scowl.Smiling brightly, I sat down with Marco on the sofa across from him. "Aren't you pleased? This is your first formal meeting with the man who's going to marry the next head of the Ferraro family."Vincenzo slammed his cane against the floor. "Y

I folded my arms and watched Raphael's face twist in disbelief. "Take Raphael into custody."Even the men who had followed him inside rushed forward. They pinned him down and took away his weapons.Raphael struggled against them, veins bulging in his forehead. "Sofia, do you have to be this heartless? Fine, I had an affair with Aurelia. But what else did I ever do to you? Show me one Don in all of Sicily who has stayed faithful to one woman his entire life!"I lowered my arms, walked over, and planted my foot on his head."Do you remember what you said to me on my eighteenth birthday? You said you would love only one woman your whole life. You said I was your only princess. But Raphael, you cost me my baby!"Raphael's stunned voice came from beneath my shoe. "What baby? Sofia, you were carrying our baby?"I lifted my foot and stared down at him, grief burning in my eyes."During the seasickness training, I begged them to stop, but they tied my hands and feet and kicked me into the sea.

The door slammed against the wall with a crash. Aurelia stared at me in shock. "Sofia, what are you doing? Aren't you afraid of what Raphael will do to you?"I laughed and motioned for a bodyguard to lock the door. "Raphael just lost his position as heir. I'm in charge now."A bodyguard brought me a sofa, and I sat down comfortably. Two more dragged Aurelia out of bed and forced her to kneel before me.Aurelia shrieked in disbelief. "That's impossible! You're lying, aren't you? Raphael was one step away from being Don!"I held out my hand, and a bodyguard placed a gun in it. "You know what that last step was, don't you?"Becoming my legal husband.I had Aurelia to thank for ruining our marriage-license signing. If Raphael had actually taken over, life would have been even more miserable for me. By then, it would've been too late to change anything.Aurelia's face twisted with rage. "I don't believe you! You loved him for years. There's no way you could just walk away!"The bodyguards g

I forced my eyes open and saw Marco sitting beside my hospital bed.His eyes were bloodshot. He held my hand. "Sofia, you're finally awake."My mouth opened, and my hand moved to the throbbing pain in my belly. "The baby..."Marco struggled to get the words out. "Sofia, he's gone."I took a few deep breaths, but the tears wouldn't stop.He stayed quiet for a while and let me cry. "Your uncle and Raphael are upstairs. I heard Aurelia nearly lost her baby."I clutched his hand. "I am going to make every one of them pay!"Marco pressed my shoulder back down when I tried to get up. "Sofia, you need to heal first. I'll have my men guard your room. When you're discharged, I'll help you get your revenge."For the next two days, I stayed in the hospital under Marco's protection. I took my medicine and ate without a word. All the while, I was planning my revenge. The first thing I would do was choose a different man to marry.Vincenzo and Raphael didn't come to see me.
