I pressed a hand to my stomach. A dull ache throbbed low in my belly.Aurelia moved closer to Vincenzo. "Sofia is just soft-hearted by nature. Don't be mad with her." His frown only deepened and he pressed his lips into a line.I laughed bitterly. Of course. I was the only daughter of a Mafia family, yet I was kind and timid. No wonder my uncle was disappointed in me.Raphael mistook my laugh for mockery and scoffed, "Sofia, Lia was trying to smooth things over with the underboss for you. How could you laugh at her? You're always like this. You never appreciate it when someone is trying to help you."I pushed myself to my feet. All the anger I'd been holding back finally boiled over. "Raphael, no one told me the signing had been postponed. Worse, I was summoned all the way from Sicily to Lipari. I get seasick, yet you had me running back and forth three times in one day, by car and by boat. Why don't you ask who lied to me?"Raphael was caught off guard and turned to Aurelia.Aurelia c

By the time we reached Sicily, I was so drained I could barely stand. I had just made it inside when I saw a simple meal waiting on the dining table. Everything was light and easy on the stomach.Raphael's name lit up my phone. "Sofia, I had the cook prepare something light for you ahead of time. Consider the boat ride your punishment for slandering Lia. You know how important it is for a pregnant woman to stay calm."I gripped the phone. "Raphael, if no one had told me there was a wedding ceremony, why would I have rushed to Lipari by boat? You know I could have taken a helicopter. The only reason I'd take a boat is if it was urgent."Raphael grew impatient. "Sofia, I used to think you were weak, but at least you were kind. Why do you keep slandering Lia? If you still can't see what you did wrong, you won't be using the plane or helicopter anytime soon."I could hear Aurelia talking sweetly to him in the background. Raphael hung up before I could say another word. I clutched my phone

I forced my eyes open and saw Marco sitting beside my hospital bed.His eyes were bloodshot. He held my hand. "Sofia, you're finally awake."My mouth opened, and my hand moved to the throbbing pain in my belly. "The baby..."Marco struggled to get the words out. "Sofia, he's gone."I took a few deep breaths, but the tears wouldn't stop.He stayed quiet for a while and let me cry. "Your uncle and Raphael are upstairs. I heard Aurelia nearly lost her baby."I clutched his hand. "I am going to make every one of them pay!"Marco pressed my shoulder back down when I tried to get up. "Sofia, you need to heal first. I'll have my men guard your room. When you're discharged, I'll help you get your revenge."For the next two days, I stayed in the hospital under Marco's protection. I took my medicine and ate without a word. All the while, I was planning my revenge. The first thing I would do was choose a different man to marry.Vincenzo and Raphael didn't come to see me. Neither of them cared abo

I folded my arms and watched Raphael's face twist in disbelief. "Take Raphael into custody."Even the men who had followed him inside rushed forward. They pinned him down and took away his weapons.Raphael struggled against them, veins bulging in his forehead. "Sofia, do you have to be this heartless? Fine, I had an affair with Aurelia. But what else did I ever do to you? Show me one Don in all of Sicily who has stayed faithful to one woman his entire life!"I lowered my arms, walked over, and planted my foot on his head."Do you remember what you said to me on my eighteenth birthday? You said you would love only one woman your whole life. You said I was your only princess. But Raphael, you cost me my baby!"Raphael's stunned voice came from beneath my shoe. "What baby? Sofia, you were carrying our baby?"I lifted my foot and stared down at him, grief burning in my eyes."During the seasickness training, I begged them to stop, but they tied my hands and feet and kicked me into the sea.

Marco went to the interrogation room himself to deal with Raphael. Aurelia's injuries were too severe, and she didn't survive. Raphael was tortured and then dumped in Bellini territory to beg on the streets.Marco rested his head against me, his arms wrapped around my waist as he grumbled. "Baby, without you, an orphan in Sicily would never have made it this far. And after everything he's done, you're still letting him live."I ran my fingers through his hair, amused. "Once he's watched our grand wedding, you can do whatever you want with him."Marco's eyes lit up, and he immediately sat up. "Baby, I spent all those years loving you from the sidelines, and you never once looked my way! Do you know how painful that was? Don't you think you should make it up to me?"Marco gave me a suggestive grin and started pulling off his shirt as he leaned closer. My eyes swept over his gorgeous body, and I licked my lips. "Of course. We can go all night. Whoever gives up first has to bark."Marco gr
