CHAPTER 5

OLIVIA POV

I'm sure he's one of their lap dogs, doing whatever he's told the moment they bark orders at him.

I can't risk it. I can't risk him coming back here with Samantha or Lucas, knowing I have a child. They'd do the math in the blink of an eye.

That would only let Alessandro learn about the part of my life he doesn't know, and I pray he never finds out.

A few minutes later, Jaden and his nanny, Jane, returned, and he quickly rushed over to me.

“Mommy?” he called out sweetly. “I bought you this.” He stretched out his hand and handed me one of his chocolates. I couldn't help but smile as I gently cradled his head. I watched him happily jog back to Jane while I continued my apartment hunt.

I swiped through pictures, looking for the best place—one with a playground where Jaden could play. Once I found it, I quickly emailed the realtor, who sent me photos of the apartment I wanted. Without hesitation, I made the payment and began packing.

When I entered Jaden’s room to pack up his clothes, he sat down, staring blankly at me. I could tell he sensed the urgency and change, or perhaps even the lies, but he didn't fully understand enough to talk about it.

I tried to joke with him, pretending everything was fine as I packed, but the tension was palpable. I just couldn't hide it.

After a while, he asked, “Mommy, why are we packing so soon? We just arrived.”

I took a deep breath and turned to him, smiling. “Jay, this place isn't close to my job. I need somewhere a little closer.”

I lied, putting on the most motherly smile I could muster. He wouldn't understand, even if I told him everything and why I had to leave right away.

“But I love this place,” he protested. I exhaled slowly. “I promise you, the next place we go will be better.”

“Is there a playground there?” he piped up. When I nodded, he frowned.

“But there’s a gigantic playground just opposite the house with lots of boys,” I tried to convince him. “You can always go there, but you have to go with Jane.”

I caressed his head and continued to pack as quickly as possible. I just needed to get out of there right now. I had a deep feeling that Samantha and Lucas must have known I was back; their lapdog must have called them.

.

.

The next morning, I was awake by seven and quickly prepared breakfast for Jayden before heading to take a shower and get ready for the Fuldab Law Firm. It was one of the largest law firms right after ours. I glanced at my wrist and then at the clock— I was already running late. I should have woken up earlier, but moving from one house to another all night had been exhausting.

Once I was finished, I settled into my car and drove to the law firm. After parking, I made my way to the CEO’s office as directed. When I reached his door, I paused to smooth my dress. He wasn't just anyone. Williams Jerkins is one of the top attorneys with the most successful law firms in the country—a self-made billionaire who made his fortune through various businesses, especially in stock exchanges. Leading his family firm is purely out of passion.

Taking a deep breath, I pushed open the door to the imposing office. A wave of nervousness washed over me as I stepped inside.

I put on my most charming smile and approached the man sitting behind the mahogany desk, his head bent over his laptop.

“Good morning, Mr. Jerkins,” I greeted politely.

Williams raised his head upon hearing my voice, and I froze in shock. I stumbled back, my mouth agape as I pointed at him.

“You?” I said in disbelief. “What are you doing here? Where is Mr. Jerkins?”

I must be cursed to keep running into this same stranger from five years ago.

What was he doing in Williams Jerkins' office? I swallowed hard, my eyes trailing to the name tag on his suit. As I read it aloud, “CEO… Williams Jerkins,” my jaw dropped, and I prayed for one thing:

Superpowers to disappear.

A deep wave of shame washed over me, and I couldn't bear to look at him.

Who would have thought I would cross paths with him again?

And not just cross paths, but to find out he is Williams Jerkins?

My heart raced as I considered my options. The best course of action would be to ignore him and act professionally. That was my only way to navigate this situation.

When I raised my gaze to him and noticed he was staring at me wordlessly, I chuckled nervously.

“Sorry, I thought you were someone I know,” I said with a straight face. “I'm sorry for pointing at you like that.”

He still didn't say a word, and I couldn't help but wonder why he was looking at me that way. Should I keep talking, or was it better to just stop?

“I’m sorry… My name is Olivia Knowles, and I'm here regarding the application we signed as part of our agreement last year,” I explained, hoping he understood the purpose of my visit.

His intense gaze made it uncomfortable for me to stand in the office, and I could feel my palms growing sweaty.

“So, you're still going to keep playing the pretend game with me, right?” he finally spoke, causing me to gulp.

Olivia, you’ve got this. I needed to pull myself together.

“What do you mean by that, Mr. Jerkins?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Are you really going to stand there and pretend you don't recognize me?” he challenged, his tone sharp. I feigned a frown.

“Am I really supposed to know you, Mr. Jerkins? I think you have the wrong person. We might have a little resemblance, but I'm only here as an intern attorney, just as I mentioned in my letter,” I clarified quickly, hoping he would drop the subject.

His eyes narrowed as he studied me intently, as if he were taking in every detail. I wondered if he knew I was pretending.

“Well, it seems you really don’t remember me,” he said, rising from his chair. My heart began to race.

“Perhaps I should help you remember, right?” He stood directly in front of me, causing my breath to hitch and my chest to pound. Leaning closer, he moved slowly, his tongue brushing the side of my ear, making me giggle nervously.

“Now do you remember me, pretty damsel?” he asked, and this time I was too stunned to reply.

My brows furrowed in confusion. “No, I already said I don’t know you. Why are you—”

Before I could finish, he lowered his lips to mine. The moment his lips touched mine, I stiffened.

“Let me in so I can help you remember,” he whispered in a sultry voice, his hands resting on my hips.

I managed to push him away and stepped back, my dark eyes flashing with anger as my face burned red. “What was the meaning of that, Mr. Jerkins? You know that could be considered harassment, right? Even if we’ve encountered each other in the past, that doesn’t give you the right to do that.”

“I see why you hate being captured by the media, and why only your childhood photos are on the internet,” I snorted. “You really don’t want them to see the kind of person you are.”

He chuckled darkly. “And what kind of man do you think I am, Olivia?” he asked, his gaze steady as I glared at him.

“The kind who harasses every woman that manages to come into his office.”

He started to approach me again. “Are you sure that’s what you wanted to say?” His eyes glinted with confidence, igniting my fury. “Or were you going to explain the kind of man who takes advantage of you when you're dead drunk until you're sober? The same one who makes you beg him to stop, right?”

CHAPTER 40OLIVIA.Some minutes later, I had finished packing my bags for the trip. I didn’t pack too much; I picked out some professional wear and just a pair of at-home slippers to help my feet after wearing heels. Since it was an important trip, I figured I needed to bring some clothes that I could wear out if needed. I knew we might be attending some important events or gatherings, so I prepared for that.I frantically stuffed my bag, and finally, I was done. I sat back on the couch, heaving a deep sigh of relief that I was finished. But then my eyes caught a familiar figure watching me closely from the door.I turned my gaze, and my eyes met Jaden's. I almost froze. How was he awake at this time?“Honey, what is the matter?” I stood up and started to approach him, cradling his head. “What is it, sweetheart? What happened?”“You're packing up. Where are you going?” he asked, his voice fairly above a whisper, and my face fell. My smile

CHAPTER 38OLIVIA After waiting for Gab for a few minutes, I slipped out my phone and texted her that I was on my way home. I couldn’t wait any longer; I needed to go back home to meet my son and also to rest from the hectic day I’d had moving from place to place since I won the case. Yes, I was very excited but also exhausted. After I was announced the winner, I had to go outside for a series of interviews that I couldn’t miss. There were a lot of questions, and I had to stand outside for some time to finish with the reporters. After that, I had some talks with the other attorneys and judges of the jury who were present. Most of them couldn’t remember me, which was even better; I had no intention of explaining why I was with the Jerkins Law Firm and not that of the Brown family.Well, after that, Mr. Smith proposed that I leave with them in their entourage to his office, where I also had to answer some questions the reporters were asking before I joined them for a

CHAPTER 37WILLIAMS.My lips curved into a deep, proud smile as I settled into my chair. I just knew she was going to smash the case—and she did. She showed the world how much talent she has, and right now we’re the talk of the town. It’s only been forty minutes since she won the case, and since then, my phone has been buzzing nonstop. Everyone wants my law firm to take care of their cases. I knew this was going to happen, and this is only the beginning. By tomorrow, when the news covers it and shows footage of the court scenes, Olivia will become a celebrity attorney. I’m just happy to see her win and achieve her dreams. This is a full-circle moment for her, and I’m proud of her.The next minute, the door slowly slid open, and Olivia walked in, her eyes on me. She looked tired, but I wouldn’t waste any time; I would let her go home and enjoy her day immediately.“Congratulations again, dear,” I said, sitting up in my chair. “Olivia, we have somewhere we ne

CHAPTER 36OLIVIA By the time I was done enjoying my slice of cake, everyone had gone back to work. I walked out and saw Gab packing up some glasses, so I quickly joined her.“Oh,” she chuckled. “Thank you, dear. You didn't need to; it's your day, and you're supposed to enjoy it.”Urgh. The birthday drama again? I can't even catch a break at this point. I can’t tell her that it isn’t my birthday. I don’t think Williams did the same thing; I think he just told them to go back to work since we were done with the celebrations. So I’d just keep quiet and act like it is actually my birthday.I helped her carry the glasses to the other side of the firm before the cleaning ladies came to collect them from us. We both proceeded to wash our hands in the bathroom. I glanced at her from time to time as we washed our hands. I couldn’t help but admire her—her fashion sense, her style, and what she has achieved in the judicial world. She is such a stunning woma

CHAPTER 36WILLIAMS My breath hitched, and the smile on my face quickly faded.Today is not her birthday? That has to be some twenty-first-century joke. I cross-checked the date like four times before I started making any preparations. What the hell is she talking about?“What do you mean today isn’t your birthday?” I asked, confusion twisting in my voice. “Don’t tell me you forgot your own birthday!”It’s okay to be ambitious and hardworking, but you should also love yourself and take care of yourself. Put yourself first. Birthdays only come once a year, so why should you have forgotten about yours, huh?She heaved a deep sigh and dropped the flowers and watch on the table. Looking at her, I felt a surge of frustration and confusion at the same time.“Williams, I understand your frustration, but I'm no dummy. I know my date of birth off the top of my head to tell you that today isn’t my birthday.”“I’m equally shocked t

CHAPTER 34WILLIAMS I quickly dashed into the bathroom and took my bath. In a couple of minutes, I was done, dressed, and headed downstairs where the car was waiting for me. Once inside, my driver took me straight to the firm. Sitting in the car, I checked the time; it was almost ten in the morning. A small smile crept onto my lips. Yes, I was early. I wanted to supervise everything to ensure it was just right before she arrived. I didn’t want this to go awry. I wanted it to be perfect so she could be swept off her feet.In a couple of minutes, my car pulled into the firm’s compound, and the engine was turned off. I stepped out and made my way inside quickly. Just as I expected, some of the staff weren’t there yet. The ones who were at work were the workaholics who hated going home or having a little time to themselves. Each time they had a moment to themselves, they would surely come back to the firm and immerse themselves in work. I guess that was what made them

CHAPTER 32 WILLIAMS My ringtone blared through, and my eyes stirred open. It was still seven in the morning. Who the hell would be calling another person this early? I assumed it must have been an emergency, so I reached for my phone. I grabbed it from the other end of the bed where I had dropped it last night. I rubbed my eyes, trying to shake off the sleep so I could see clearly. Once I did, I realized it was one of my security staff at the firm buzzing my phone this early. I let out a deep sigh before swiping up to answer the call.It had better be because the firm is burning to the ground that he called me for. Anything less than that, I might have his ass fired for disturbing my sleep."What the fuck is it, Shaw? Don’t you fucking look at the damn time to see it isn’t convenient to call anyone at this hour?” I snapped as soon as I picked up the call."I'm really sorry, sir, but I called your PA, Gabrielle, and she didn't pick up, so I had to

  • You lost me, Now you'll lose everything.    Biker boy

CHAPTER 32 OLIVIA “Hey, you look oddly familiar. Did you come from Houston?” A six-foot biker walked up to me and asked. I shook my head, disapproving of him.“Oh, looks like she doesn't speak. What a waste of pussy, brother,” he teased, and a whole lot of them burst out laughing. My grip on my drink tightened, but I just swallowed and forced a smile at the man. I had nothing to say to them right now until I watched them all get locked up behind bars for their crimes. I had been sitting here for a couple of hours now, and I had seen a lot of crazy things happen. In just a few hours, I had seen the bikers have a race. The race was a little exciting since I had never seen anything like it. They raced, and some of them bet their money on who would win. It was quite thrilling, except for the fact that I heard some of the riders boast that they took different routes through some person’s house just to make it back early and win the prize. The most annoying of

CHAPTER 31WILLIAMS "Come on, guys, let's leave this talk of work. I came here to have a good time, not to speculate about work. If I wanted anything about work, then I would have just stayed back at my office and buried my head deep in it," I said, walking away to grab a cup of wine.Once I got there, I greeted the bartender, and she poured me a shot. I downed it immediately and asked for two more. I just wanted something to take my mind off Olivia for a moment. After that, I picked up my phone again and noticed she had sent me her location. I heaved a deep sigh before swinging my phone back into my pocket. Right now, I felt a little relieved. I knew her location, and if any of those motherfuckers touched her, they'd have me to contend with.I moved and joined the boys playing soccer tennis. We played for several minutes, with Lucas being too hard on himself. Olivia must have hurt his feelings badly when she took back the Smith case from him. There were n
