Walk like a Luna.

It was late in the afternoon, almost evening you may say. The sun was ready to set, giving way to the moon and the stars. Cars were piling up behind us, and many more in front of us as the she-wolves inside the cars gave their breathtaking appearance.

It took about two minutes for each guest to get out of the car and walk down the white carpet, symbolizing purity. It led them toward the main gate of the pack hall. Parents didn't waste time taking pictures with big smiles on their faces. Each and everyone thought their child was going to be chosen tonight, but I knew better.

I was not stupid enough to harbor such hope. There were fifty girls here looking for the opportunity to open their legs to the young alpha, but only five would have the opportunity. I wasn't thrilled to be here, but I was happy to see my mother so excited, so I kept my opinion to myself, and just enjoyed the sight of her genuinely smiling again.

She was narrating everything, telling me what was happening in front of us. I didn't dare try to look, since the hooting and the squealing were giving me a headache. I hate crowds.

"Are you even listening to me? This is important Eva. First impressions matter and these people need to know we didn't come here to play around!" my mother scolded and I snapped out of it, and finally paid attention.

"I know, and I am sorry. What were you saying again?" I gave her an apologetic smile which she didn't buy. She knows me better than I know myself and she knew this was not going to be the last sorry of the night, actually it was only the beginning.

"We are almost there, five cars away to be precise. Wait for the valet to open the door for you. Don't worry about me, I will be recording every moment on my phone." She gave me a look I knew very well and I nodded before she even told me what she wanted.

She didn't want me to embarrass her.

"Good! Firstly, don't get out of the car like someone is pushing you or you're a drunken slut like you always do. You're a Luna to be, and you must act like one." I wasn't, but I wasn't going to argue with the crazy woman.

This was her day after all.

"Slowly lift your left leg out, the one with a slit showing off your long legs. That's your best asset after all." She complimented, and for once she didn't mention herself in the compliment.

"Wait until your feet hit the ground before offering your hand to the valet guy, and slowly come out of the car wearing the best smile on your face. I don't care if you have to fake it, as long as it's believable." She glared at me when she said the last part, which actually made me smirk.

This woman knew me very well.

"Lastly, be polite to the valet, thank him, since you don't know who will be listening and slowly sway your hips going straight to the civil gates. Walk like you mean it, walk like you already own the island and everyone on it." It was too much to take, and too much pressure for one person to handle, especially since I didn't want to be here in the first place.

I wish I could tell her the real reason why I shouldn't be here, but I didn't want to break her heart. She was very happy.

"I love you!" she cooed, kissing the air next to my cheek, making sure her painted lips didn't touch my skin and mess up the makeup she worked on for two hours. Yes, I have suffered, but I would do anything for my mother, including putting myself through this horrid event with a big smile on my face.

Before I could answer, the valet opened the door for me, and waited for me with both his hands behind his back. He was young though, sixteen if I am correct, but the black tuxedo he wore made him look much older, but it also highlighted his square jaw and dull gray eyes.

Like me, it seemed the young man didn't want to be there either, which actually made me give him a polite, real smile. Indirectly saying we are in this together. Cheer up! And he gave me one back as he held his hand out for me to take.

I did as my mother told me, and got out of the car like the Luna I was supposed to portray. I thought it would have been difficult but it was not. I easily did whatever she asked, like my body was born to do it, and I didn't miss the look I got from other escorts. Some were of envy while others wanted to murder me with their glares.

I ignored them and went straight to the high gate where warriors were already waiting for us. This was a big event, and anywhere where both the alpha's and the Luna were around needed to be guarded heavily. The pack couldn't manage to lose one not to talk about all three at the same time.

War will ensue.

"Full name and date of birth?" The head warrior asked, his voice gruff and intimidating. He was a big man full of muscles, and always wore a scrawl on his face. His aura was intimidating and when around him you were, let me put it the way, I was even afraid to breathe the wrong way.

"Evelina Marcus Richy. Born 2004. July 13th" my mother answered and I was grateful for that, since I knew I wouldn't be able to talk. The man quickly typed on his computer and looked at me for a minute and looked at the screen before nodding for the other warrior to let us in and I let out a huge sigh.

That was terrifying.

The warrior led us to the other line where there was a table and two older she-wolves were scribbling while asking the escort and their daughters questions. It seemed like too much work for one night, since only five girls were going to be chosen.

Couldn't they just choose the girls randomly and send five of them invitations?

"Next!" The she-wolf shouted, which was rude since we were not far from her, and we were werewolves and had excellent hearing, but that didn't seem to bother the woman next to me. It seemed like nothing was going to ruin this day for her.

"Name, age, height and status?" The older woman asked, looking at me, but my mother answered cheerfully.

"Evelina Marcus Richy, 18. 5 '9 but could pass for 6' 2 when wearing heels. Good genes to carry a male child or an alpha." She giggled but the woman was not amused at all.

"Ma'am, this is not an audition for the Choosing, only the Seer can choose. I am simply helping your daughter find a mate if she is not chosen. There are many unmated wolves here looking for wives, and I would hate to give them wrong information. Can you tell me her height and status again?" This time her voice was not harsh but pleading for some reason.

I guess she has seen all this before, and felt bad for me, since she gave me a sympathetic look.

"5'9 and she is..' ' she paused for a second before answering. "Common pack member" the woman nodded, writing it down on the piece of paper before ripping it off her page and placing it on the front of my dress, and using a stapler, making it sure it doesn't fall. It was like a name tag but handwritten and offered all the things you would love to know about a person beforehand.

"Thank you!" I said as she showed us to another warrior who was leading us to the civil ballroom where the choosing was going to be held. Seeing the big decorated doors open made everything real, and I knew once I was in there, there would be no going back.

This was really happening, and by the end of the night all the fuss would be over and will be going back home to live our sad little life again.

It was bitter sweet since I didn't want to be here, and would be glad that all this was over, but I was not looking forward to seeing the sorrow in my mother's eyes again. The mating season gave her something to smile about, to look forward to, and I was scared she was going to go back to being an empty shell of herself again.

"Are you ready?" My mother asked, holding my hand tight, looking at the crowd already seated in the ballroom and I nodded, giving her an assuring smile.

"Ready!"
