I sat alone at the far end of the dining hall, the golden glow of the chandelier reflecting off the polished mahogany table. Dishes lined the surface, roasted pheasant, glazed carrots, wild mushroom soup, honeyed bread rolls, and a jug of berry wine.

I had invited Lila to dinner.

I’m still not sure what I was thinking. Maybe it was Ragner’s words earlier. Maybe it was guilt.

Or maybe something else I couldn’t admit.

All I knew was,I couldn’t stand seeing her in pain.

The two large wooden doors creaked open, and Lila entered with Clawdia, her new maid.

She wore a simple blue gown, her hair swept up in a style that made her features look even more radiant.

She looked nothing like the broken girl I’d seen on the cold floor of the dark room.

She walked quietly, every step careful and guarded.

“Sit,” I said, pointing to the chair across from me.

She obeyed without a word.

I watched her closely. She didn’t touch the food at first, though I could tell she was starving.

“Are you not hungry?” I

Thane’s POV The sky had already begun to bruise with twilight when I crossed into Moon Clan territory. Shadows crept like whispers along the forest floor, and the air carried the cool bite of dusk. The scent of pine and dew clung to me, masking the faint iron tang of dried blood on my skin. I moved past the villagers unnoticed, hidden by the fading light—and I was glad for it. Each step toward the palace sent dull throbs through my bones, muscles aching with every movement. I felt like I’d been chewed up and spit out by the wilderness. An ordinary wolf wouldn’t have survived. I slipped through the gates like a ghost, weaving between stone corridors, avoiding guards and questions alike. Not because I felt guilty—but because I didn’t have the strength for attention. Not yet. My body craved rest. By the time I reached my quarters, I was barely holding myself upright. I shut the door behind me, peeled off my torn cloak, and collapsed onto the bed. The scent of cedar and cold stone

I woke up with a weak body, every inch of me aching. I could barely lift a finger. The cold had sunk deep into my skin, probably because I’d spent the entire night curled up on the hard floor.I shut my eyes, hoping to drift back into sleep, to escape the pain, but it wouldn’t come. Not long after, the door creaked open. My vision was blurry, but I thought I saw Ethan. He wasn’t alone. With what little strength I had left, I whispered, “Ple...ase... g..o...aw...ay.”I heard his voice, calm, but distant."A maid has been assigned to take care of your meals."I didn’t respond. I just heard footsteps… then silence. They must’ve left. Everything was fading again.I didn’t hear the door open the next time,or maybe I did. My mind was too far gone to process anything. The faint clatter of something, metal against wood, snapped me back. My heart jumped.A shadow moved closer.I couldn’t tell who it was. My vision was still too blurry. My chest tightened. Then suddenly... all I could see was M

It was early morning when I woke up, my mind immediately drifting to Lila. I wondered if she was alright, if she had eaten, if she'd managed to sleep. The memory of yesterday in the dark room surfaced, the way she trembled, the broken look in her eyes. I hated how unsettled it made me feel."Ilari!"The guard appeared the moment I called. "Please tell the maids to prepare my bath. Make it hot.""Understood, Alpha."I picked up a book from the nightstand—not out of interest, but as a distraction. I needed anything to keep my mind from circling back to her."Good morning, Alpha," the maids chorused from outside the inner chamber. My room was large enough that they couldn’t see me unless they stepped in. "Good morning," I replied coldly. I was sure they didn’t expect anything more.As they prepared the bath, I remained in bed, thoughts wandering again. Lila. Who was she, really? She was bold, defiant—not what you'd expect from someone in her position. She claimed to be the daughter of a

“But in return” he murmured,”you'll have to do something for me”. That was all he said I was wondering what it could be, which made me ask him “And what will that be?” “I’ll protect you. But in return... I want you by my side. Not as a prisoner. As mine.” What did he mean by his’, and how am I supposed to know that he is not trying to use me. What if it's another trap? I don't think I am ready to trust anyone. “ I don't think I want to belong to anyone”.I reply politely Not even to someone who just had me tied up. His jaw clenched at my words. The softness in his voice vanished. “Don’t be ungrateful” he snapped, “you do not expect me to protect you without having anything in return”. He said furiously I realized his countenance changed already, this was the person that was being caring minutes ago. “Grateful?”. I asked curiously while looking into his eyes. “ I never tell you I want to be tied up, I am not some animal…..” I can see him boiling

** (Lila's POV)**"Give her something to eat," I heard him order, voice low but authoritative, before he disappeared down the corridor."Yes, Alpha," the guard replied at once.So he really *was* the Alpha. That explained his commanding tone, his arrogance, the way everyone obeyed him without question. It also meant one very important thing: I had to get out of here, fast. Now that he’d left, and the guard had stepped away to carry out his order, this might be my only chance. My limbs still ached from the restraints, but I wasn’t giving up.I shifted against the wall, twisting my wrists and testing the ropes. They were tight, but not unbreakable. Desperation gave me strength. I bit at the knot with my teeth, tugging and pulling, over and over, until I felt the first thread loosen. Sweat trickled down my back. My heart raced as I finally pulled one hand free, then the other. My ankles came next.I didn’t stop to think. I tiptoed to the door, praying it wasn’t locked. It wasn’t.Carefull
