The next morning I woke to an empty bed. My body still ached from the previous night, but the silence in the penthouse felt heavier than usual. I dressed quickly in a simple black pantsuit, no panties as per his rules, and found Andrea already in the kitchen, staring at his laptop with a cup of coffee untouched beside him.

He looked up when I entered. For a second his stormy eyes softened, then the mask slid back into place. “Morning. We have a problem.”

I poured myself coffee. “More than one, I assume.”

He turned the laptop toward me. The headline screamed across the screen: ‘Vance Architecture Takeover: Personal Scandal or Corporate Coercion?’ The article quoted anonymous sources and mentioned Simon indirectly. My father’s name was there too.

My stomach twisted. “Simon didn’t waste time.”

“No. And the board called an emergency meeting for this afternoon.” Andrea rubbed his temple, a rare sign of strain. “Some members are questioning my leadership. They think this personal entanglement is becoming a liability.”

I sat across from him. “What do you want me to do?”

“Stay close. Say nothing unless I ask.” He reached across the table and covered my hand with his for a brief moment. The touch felt almost hesitant. “This was supposed to be simple. Acquire the company. Keep you for a year. Now everything is… complicated.”

‘He almost sounds human,’ I thought.

At the office the tension was thick. I sat at my desk outside his door, fielding calls and trying to ignore the sideways glances from colleagues. Around noon my phone buzzed with a text.

‘Unknown: Sienna, it’s Dad. I’m in the lobby. Please come down. We need to talk before this explodes.’

I showed the message to Andrea when he stepped out. His jaw tightened, but he nodded. “Go. I’ll watch from upstairs.”

Down in the lobby my father looked exhausted, his shoulders slumped. When he saw me he pulled me into a hug that felt desperate. “Sienna, this has gone too far. Simon showed me documents. Voss has a past. A woman named Elena disappeared after getting involved with him. You need to get out now.”

“Dad, stop. I signed the contract. The company is stable because of it. I’m handling this my way.”

He stepped back, eyes wet. “You’re my daughter. I can’t watch you throw your life away for me.”

Before I could respond, Andrea appeared, his presence commanding the space. “Mr. Vance. This is not the place.”

My father glared at him. “You think you can own my daughter and get away with it? The board is already turning. Simon is talking to journalists as we speak.”

Andrea’s voice stayed calm, but I caught the flicker in his eyes. “Threaten me all you want. But if you push too hard, the company folds. And Sienna stays with me.”

My father left looking broken. As we rode the elevator back up, Andrea was quiet. Once inside his office he closed the door and leaned against it, exhaling slowly.

“You defended the arrangement downstairs,” he said. “Why?”

I crossed my arms. “Because walking away now would destroy everything we’re trying to save. Including whatever this is between us.”

He studied me for a long moment. Then, in a move that surprised me, he switched to his own thoughts as the scene shifted to his perspective.

‘Andrea Voss POV’

She stood there, chin high, challenging me even after everything. Sienna Vance was supposed to be a possession, a pretty distraction to control. Yet here she was, choosing to stand beside me while her father begged her to run. It unsettled me more than any boardroom coup.

I had not let anyone this close since Elena. That mistake had nearly cost me everything. Watching Sienna defend me stirred something dangerous. A crack in the armor I had spent years building. ‘I notice it. The way I want her opinion. The way her presence calms the storm in my head. I am not falling in love. That is weakness. But damn it, she is getting under my skin.’

I stepped closer, voice low. “The board meeting is in thirty minutes. If they vote against me, things could get ugly fast.”

Sienna touched my arm. “Then we face it.”

Her touch lingered. For once I did not pull away immediately.

‘Back to Sienna POV’

The boardroom was a battlefield. Marcus Hale led the charge. “Mr. Voss, these scandals are tanking our stock. We recommend you step aside temporarily while we investigate the personal contract with Miss Vance.”

Andrea remained seated, exuding control. “This is a smear by outsiders trying to destabilize us. Sienna, explain your position.”

I stood. “I signed willingly to save my father’s legacy. The company is recovering under Andrea’s leadership. Attacking him now only helps our enemies.”

A few board members exchanged uneasy glances. The vote ended in a narrow victory for Andrea, but the distrust was clear. As we left the room, he murmured, “You keep surprising me.”

Back in his office another crisis hit. His assistant rushed in. “Sir, the waterfront project blueprints were leaked and altered. We have inspectors on site and potential lawsuits incoming. It looks like internal sabotage.”

Andrea’s face hardened. “Find who did it. Simon or someone on the board?”

Before we could dig deeper, my phone rang. I answered on speaker at Andrea’s nod.

“Sienna?” My father’s voice cracked. “Simon just sent me proof. Bank transfers linked to Voss from years ago. They show payments to Elena’s family after she vanished. You need to see this.”

Andrea froze. I saw the vulnerability flash again, raw and unguarded. He took the phone. “Mr. Vance, those records are manipulated. Elena tried to destroy me. She is alive and clearly playing games now.”

He hung up and turned to me, running a hand through his hair. “Elena was my assistant five years ago. We were close. Too close. She leaked company secrets and tried to blackmail me. When I cut her off, she disappeared and resurfaced with lies that nearly sank my reputation. I thought it was over.”

“Why didn’t you tell me sooner?” I asked.

“Because trust is not something I give easily.” His voice dropped. “But with you… I am starting to want to try. That terrifies me more than any board vote.”

The confession hung between us. He pulled me into a brief embrace, not sexual, just solid and real. For a moment the cold billionaire faded, replaced by a man carrying heavy ghosts.

We spent the afternoon coordinating damage control at the waterfront site via calls and video. By evening we returned to the penthouse exhausted. Andrea poured drinks and we sat on the couch reviewing documents together like partners rather than captor and captive.

“You defended me again today,” he said quietly. “No one does that without an angle.”

“Maybe my angle is that I see more in you than the devil I first met,” I replied.

He set his glass down and looked at me with an intensity that made my pulse race. “Careful, Sienna. I am still the man who owns your contract. But I am noticing how much I hate the idea of losing you when this year ends.”

His words sent a confusing warmth through me. We talked late into the night about the company, my designs, and fragments of his past. No sex. Just two people navigating a minefield together.

Just before midnight his phone buzzed with a new message. He read it and his entire expression changed.

“What is it?” I asked.

He showed me the screen.

‘Unknown: Andrea, old friend. The board vote tomorrow will not go your way. I have ensured it. Deliver Sienna to me by noon or I release everything about Elena and the real reason her father’s company was targeted. — Julian Blackwood’

Andrea’s hand tightened around the phone. The vulnerability vanished, replaced by cold fury. But I saw the flicker. He was shaken.

“Blackwood,” he muttered. “A ghost from my past I thought I buried. He wants war.”

I stared at the message, heart pounding. Julian Blackwood. The name felt familiar in the worst way. And now he was coming for both of us.

As Andrea stood to make calls, I realized the game had just escalated into something far deadlier than a simple corporate takeover or family rescue attempt.

Who was Julian Blackwood to Andrea? And why did it feel like my one-year contract had suddenly become a death trap?

The one that made my stomach twist with doubt. We sat there and then the elevator dinged unexpectedly. The elevator doors had barely closed behind my father and Simon when the truth finally cracked open.Andrea stood in the middle of the living room, shoulders rigid, the mask he wore so well slipping completely for the first time since that drunken night. He looked at me like a man who knew he was about to lose something precious.“Sienna,” Dad said, voice cracking. “We need to talk. Alone.”Andrea stood slowly. “This is my home, Mr. Vance. Anything you want to say to my wife, you say in front of me.”Simon sneered. “Your wife? This sham marriage doesn’t fool anyone. We have proof, Voss. You didn’t buy Vance Architecture because it was failing. You bought it because Blackwood was about to.”I froze. “What?”“Sa

Sienna's POVThe drive to the waterfront groundbreaking ceremony was quiet. Andrea sat beside me in the back of the car, one hand resting on my thigh, thumb absently stroking the skin just under the hem of my dress. Twenty-nine days left on our agreement, and the threats were already closing in.He hadn’t mentioned last night again. The whiskey confessions. The way he’d looked at me like I was more than a contract. Part of me wondered if he even remembered everything he’d said.“You’re tense,” I said softly, covering his hand with mine. His jaw flexed. “Elena knows how to make a scene. Blackwood will give her the stage. We stay united in public. No matter what she says.”I nodded. The platinum band on my finger felt heavier today. “We face it together.”The site was already crowded when we arrived—press, board members, city officials, and workers in hard hats. Cameras flashed the moment we stepped out of the car. Andrea kept his hand at the small of my back, guiding me through the cro

Sienna's POVMorning light warmed the sheets. I woke first, still wrapped in Andrea’s arms, his body spooned tightly against mine. His morning wood pressed hot and heavy against my ass, and the memory of last night flooded back—his confessions, the way he’d touched me like I mattered beyond any contract.I shifted slightly, grinding back against him. Andrea stirred, his hand sliding possessively over my hip.“Morning,” he rasped, voice thick with sleep. He didn’t pull away. Instead, he kissed the back of my neck, slow and lingering.Andrea Voss POVI remembered fragments. Whiskey. Words spilling out that I never meant to say. *I don’t want you to leave.* Heat crept up my neck. Had I really admitted that? Sober now, the vulnerability felt dangerous. But her body against mine felt right. Too right.I tightened my arm around her waist. “Last night… I said things.”“You did,” she murmured, turning in my arms to face me. Her eyes were soft, searching.I avoided full eye contact, embarrasse

Sienna's POVWho was really behind the messages? And how long before our fake marriage became the only thing keeping everything from collapsing?I set my phone down on the coffee table, the warehouse threat still burning in my mind. Andrea stood by the windows, shoulders tense, staring out at the city like it owed him answers. The platinum band on his finger caught the light—our thirty-day shield.“Enough for one day,” I said softly, walking over. I took his hand and led him to the couch. “We need to unwind or we’ll burn out before Blackwood even makes his next move.”He didn’t argue. For once, he let me pull him down beside me. I poured two generous glasses of whiskey from the bar cart. He accepted his without comment, swirling the amber liquid before taking a long sip.We drank in silence at first. The burn settled warm in my chest. After the second glass, Andrea’s rigid posture loosened. His stormy eyes grew heavier, less guarded.“You know what scares me?” he murmured, voice lower

The penthouse felt charged after Andrea showed me the message from Julian Blackwood. I stood beside him, staring at the screen until he set the phone down. History repeating. Elena’s face swapped onto mine. The threat was clear.“He is not bluffing,” Andrea said, voice low. He walked to the bar and poured two glasses of whiskey, handing one to me. “Blackwood has been waiting for a weakness like this. The board vote tomorrow could swing if he leaks more about Elena or twists our contract into something illegal.”I took a sip, the burn steadying me. “Then we take the weapon out of his hand. Change the entire story before they cast their votes.”Andrea raised an eyebrow, leaning against the counter. “I am listening.”“Marriage.” The word left my mouth before I could overthink it. “Tomorrow morning. Civil ceremony. Quick and legal. It turns the personal contract into a relationship. Spousal privilege kills any coercion claims. The board cannot remove you over a marriage.”He studied me fo
