Chapter 80: Working in the Dark
Casser walked from the sleeping cavern noiselessly. He slipped through the darkness and avoided colliding with the few outlaws that were still walking in the tunnels. Soon, Casser saw his destination and saw the guard standing in front of the locked door. It was the small cavern where Remuel stored his loot of magical artifacts. As Casser got near, he tiptoed until he was standing directly in front of the guard. Then, Casser raised his hand and waved it in front of the guard’s face. The guard seemed not to see Casser waving his hand and just ignored him, merely turning to one side. Casser spun around like a dancer and was standing at the guard’s left side in a moment. Then, Casser knelt and looked at the guard’s belt where there hung a set of keys. Casser got hold of the key ring and was about to unhook it from the guard’s belt when a group of outlaws appeared and called the guard’s attention. The guard moved suddenly and Casser had to let

Chapter 81: Good News and Bad News
“How did you get that soot on you?” Remuel asked Casser. Then, Remuel raised an eyebrow and looked at the tunnel behind Casser. “Did you just come from the coal storage?” he asked.Casser wiped his face and looked at the soot on his hands. He looked at the tunnels behind him as well. “Yes,” Casser said after a short pause. “I haven’t had the chance to wash.”“I don’t see why Sela would put you to this kind of work,” Remuel said and came close to Casser to pat some of the soot off the merchant’s shoulder. “Come with me, my friend. Let me get you to the mess hall where you can wash a bit before we get some breakfast.”The two men walked together towards the mess hall, leaving the guard standing in front of the storeroom. He looked at the retreating figure of Casser suspiciously before taking a step forward where she saw Casser suddenly materialize before his eyes.Remu

Chapter 82: Enzir Drinks the Elixir
Wen and Eldion watched Enzir drain the magic elixir from the vial. Then, Wen took the vial away while Eldion lay Enzir’s head gently back on the mat. After a moment, they saw Enzir touch his arm and drew his knees upward as if he felt cold. He made a sudden jerking movement before convulsing on the mat before Wen and Eldion.Eldion stared at the twitching body of Enzir while Wen felt nervous at the possible deleterious effect of the elixir on Enzir. She remembered Lankko collapsing to the floor after drinking the elixir but eventually getting up on his feet. Wen hoped that she had done the right thing and that Enzir would be better. However, the involuntary movements of Enzir’s body had made Wen feel uneasy as to the correctness of her actions. As Enzir’s movements became more and more violent, Wen touched Enzir’s arm in an effort to steady him and prevent any more possible injuries. She had to remove her hands abruptly when she felt Enzir&rsquo

Chapter 83: Eldion Asks Enzir a Question
The outlaw standing guard at the entrance to the cavern turned towards Eldion and Wen and started craning his neck. He seemed to be starting to get suspicious at what Wen and Eldion were doing.“I think you’ll have to lie down,” said Wen. “The guard is getting suspicious.”“Sorry,” Enzir said as he lay flat on his back. “What I meant to say earlier is thank you for saving my life and your secret will be safe with me as with Lankko.”Wen nodded and stole another glance at the guard who seemed to have lost interest in what they were doing.“He’ll have to cover up. They’ll see that his wounds have healed,” Mira said suddenly, and Wen thought that it made sense.“I’ll have to cover you with a blanket,” Wen told Enzir and pulled a blanket over Enzir. “They might discover that your wounds have healed,” she explained.Enzir let Wen cover him

Chapter 84: Eldion Is Not Sure
Eldion was filled with hope with what he had just heard although he also felt dread. As much as he wanted to know who he was, he also dreaded finding out the truth about himself. Without knowledge of his past, he did not really know if it was something that he really wanted. Perhaps it was really a good thing not to know the past and have his slate clean. A fresh start.“I will tell Lankko to create an elixir for you,” said Enzir, looking at Eldion.Wen also looked at Eldion and noticed that he did not seem too excited with what he had just heard. “You don’t seem too keen about the idea, Eldion,” said Wen. “What is it? What is bothering you?”“I know I should be excited to have my memories restored. I wanted to know who I am, but now

Chapter 85: Lankko Gives Remuel the Elixir
Remuel looked at the vial of magic elixir that Lankko handed to him. It seemed like a small bottle of turbid water at first glance, but when he looked at the vial against the light, he saw the slight purplish glow and assumed that to be the hallmark of the magic liquid.“Just one vial for the disguise stone?” asked Remuel. “I was expecting a lot more.” He then looked suspiciously at Lankko.“Disguise stones are quite complex artifacts, created by fire and water magic. Very difficult to extract,” replied Lankko, shaking his head slowly.Remuel looked at the clay pot at the fireplace. The fire had been put out, but Remuel could tell that Lankko had used a lot of firewood based on the smaller pile left near the wall. Remuel scoffed. “You used a lot of firewood. Didn’t you just boil away the elixir?”Lankko coughed. “Extracting the power of the disguise stone is not as easy as boiling water. I was ab

Chapter 86: A Bolt of Energy
Earlier, Casser left Eldion and Wen with the knowledge that they had already healed Enzir. Wen and Eldion were surprised that Casser was able to find out that Enzir had already recovered from his injuries while Enzir had to comment on the merchant’s shrewdness. As the three were left by Casser in the cavern alone, they decided to talk about what they should do next.“It will just be a matter of time before Remuel finds out that you’ve healed,” said Wen. “And who knows what he’s going to do afterwards. We need to get you out of here quickly.”“I can’t go without Lankko. He is my Keeper of Secrets and I need to protect him. Also, you need the magic elixir he’s made to try and get Eldion to recover his memories,” said Enzir, looking intently at Wen.“But there’s the outlaw standing guard at the entrance,” added Eldion, waving his hand towards the entrance without looking.&ld

Chapter 87: Outside the Tunnels
Enzir followed Eldion and Wen from several steps away as the two searched the tunnels for Casser. Enzir had worn the guard’s clothes and hid his hair using the guard’s head covering. Earlier, Mira through Wen, also made a few adjustments on Enzir’s appearance and instructed him not to have a too straight posture or he would stand out like a sore thumb. “Stand as if you had worked at the fields the whole day,” said Mira and Wen relayed her instructions to Enzir.“I haven’t worked any of my fields. I wouldn’t know how that would feel,” admitted Enzir and Eldion had to suppress a laugh.“You’ve lived a life of privilege,” sighed Wen. “Imagine fighting Verna the whole day,” she said.“Verna?” asked Enzir, not knowing the real name of the snake creature of Alanca.“You knew her as Alanca, but she told us her name was Verna,” explained Eldion

Chapter 88: The Demonstration
Lankko looked around him uneasily and stopped briefly when he saw one of the outlaws just behind Wen and Eldion. Then, he continued to sweep his surroundings but without really focusing on anything or anyone before going back to Eldion and walking towards him. Then, with slow seemingly exaggerated movements, Lankko handed to Eldion a pile of clothes which the latter accepted. Lankko mumbled something and Eldion nodded his head. Afterwards, Lankko stepped back and turned to face the center of the ancient courtyard where the stone table and Kora was.Kora was oblivious to the numerous eyes that had focused on her and Lankko. She moved her head from side to side before sitting on the stone table where she found herself. Lankko picked up Kora who seemed to recognize the man holding her. Lankko stroked Kora’s feathers and the chicken closed its eyes as if enjoying the attention she was receiving. Then, Lankko held Kora under one arm while

Chapter 89: Remuel's Prisoners
Casser looked at Remuel innocently and said, “You know I couldn’t do that to you, my friend. You’ve known me for a long time. We’ve done business for so long that I could not remember the first one.”“It was the ring of Mendor, or rather a bad copy of the ring of Mendor, and I remember how that went,” replied Remuel.“I didn’t know it was just a copy,” Casser tried to explain.“I almost lost a finger because of that,” said Remuel. “Then, there was the ardap stone.”“I remember that. I sold you a real ardap stone at a good price,” said Casser.“Yes. It was real alright, but you forgot to mention o
