Chapter Twenty
"Luci stay here," my mother sighed, pushing me down onto the couch.I frowned, huffing angrily. "I don't wanna stay here!"My father walked over with a look of exasperation on his face. "Why not?" He asked gently."Because it's awful! I'm here all alone, someone might find me and—what if you guys don't come back?" I whimpered, tugging at my shirt. My father pulled me into a quick hug and kissed the top of my head. "I know it's difficult Luci but they're expecting us. We need to go so they don't find you. You needn't be afraid, you are more powerful than any of their angels."My shoulders slumped in defeat. "Fine, I'll stay in the house," I mumbled."Thank you, now we should be back in a few hours but we might take longer. Just remember, do not leave the house under any circumstances," he said firmly.I nodded. I looked down at the floor, only glancing up when I heard the front door lock with a loud click.I stood and found myself walking to my bedroom. It was tiny, but so was the rest

Chapter Twenty-One
I followed behind my parents, wincing at the ache in my body. My head was pounding and my chest throbbed with pain."Luci come on!" My father called again.I nodded numbly but pain coursed through my body when I tried to make my wings beat faster. But then my mother was in front of me, worry scrawled across her face. "Luca stop!" She shouted to my father. Her hand brushed over my face as she peered over me. "What's the matter Luci? Are you tired?" She asked.I shook my head. "My head and my chest hurt," I muttered. It feels like someone bashed in my temple and crushed my rib cage. Just the effort of talking sends a stabbing sensation through my chest."Maybe we should stop for the night," she said to my father."Alright, I think Logan lives nearby," he sighed."Would he help?""He'll do whatever I ask."My mother nodded. "Okay, come on Luci. Just take a deep breath and push through it, you're going to be fine."***I peeled my eyes open with a low groan. I squinted against the light sh

Chapter Twenty-Six: Diana
Two hundred and seventy-three . . . two hundred and seventy-four . . . two hundred and seventy-five . . . two hundred and seventy-six. 276 days. That’s how long Luciana was in this cell. Every day she scratched another line on the wall. I thought it was a stupid and dramatic thing to do, but after a couple of weeks I realized it’s probably the only thing that can keep you sane when you’re sitting in a stone room in total isolation. I can’t believe how sadistic these assholes are. They put me in her old cell. It hasn’t even been cleaned. There’s blood smeared on the door and a sticky puddle in the corner. I feel bile rise in my throat when I realize the blood either belonged to Luciana, or they’ve succumbed other people to this torture. I suppose it had to be the latter. It's too damn fresh. My jaw clenches at the sound of the door hinges creaking. The guard angel stalks inside the cell, his painted blue wings held stiff and proud like the good little soldier he is. He takes the

"They didn't. They―they can't . . . it's not possible," I stammer."I'm so sorry," Diana whispers."No, they said they burned them—I don't—" My voice cracks and I suck in a sharp breath."Ana come on we need to get Daniel and get out of here," she urges.I take a deep breath and nod, swallowing hard. The boy is slowly stalking closer, but I look past him. Daniel's body lies in a heap on the floor. His chest barely rises and falls—but it's moving. The boy raises his hand and Diana screams, crumpling into a ball on the ground beside me. She covers her ears and squeezes her eyes shut.I roll my shoulders and let my wings unfurl. My gaze snaps back to the boy and my fingers twitch.Nothing happens. I take a small step back as panic starts to set in.Diana goes still and the boy turns to me with a smirk. He flicks his wrist but still nothing happens. This time it's my turn to smirk. "Looks like we're doing this the old-fashioned way," I mutter. His eyes widen. "Why can't I—""Those are my w

Chapter Twenty-Eight
“You should just turn your property into a hospital,” I chuckle. “If you continue to be a moron, I may have to,” Logan mutters in annoyance. “Oh, come on I’m just trying to make sure you have something to do. I mean you must get bored as hell being out here by yourself, what do you even do?” “Nothing.” “Exactly.” He sighs, shaking his head. “Doing nothing is quite enjoyable. As is being alone.” “You don’t get tired of it?” I ask. “After your parents died, I did nothing for nearly ten years. Then you showed up here again and I can say my life has not improved.” I scowl. “Are you still mad that I brought Diana here?” “Yes. And I am upset that you injured yourself and caused your mate and your friend injury as well. Now you expect me to fix all three of you.” “I’m sorry, you’re just too good at it." He shakes his head, letting out an irritated sigh. “I am going to go hunting, don’t you dare get up,” he growls. My leg still throbs from when I did just that a few hours ago. “Bel

Chapter Twenty-Nine
“Hold up,” Diana mutters, “Are you seriously saying that her father was the angel from the stories―the one that forced all of us to live on earth?” I look to Logan who nods. “The angel that also brought demons to earth?” Diana asks. Logan clears his throat a little and nods again, turning to me. “Yes. Everyone was terrified of him, everyone but your mother. The only reason your father was on the Council, was because she was the leader for decades. They thought her snow-white wings meant she was the purest of the angels and so they did whatever she said―but that was millennia ago, before dark angels were fully allowed to be in the council and long before either of you were even born.” "Sounds like a damn fairytale." “Wait so they’re trying to kill Luciana because she’s the super-evil, all-powerful spawn of the devil?” “Hey!” I growl. Logan sighs in annoyance. “Well if you knew the most terrifying angel in existence had a child, wouldn’t you want to kill it?” “I’m literally sitti
