“Another one, please.” I told the waitress at Uno bar. She smiled at me and sashayed towards the counter, knowing that my eyes trained on her body. The black dress was wrapped around her shapely body like it was second skin and her hips swayed seductively. It’s not that I was interested in her. In fact I was dying of boredom and sadness. Even though I knew that drinks wouldn’t solve anything, I couldn’t think of anything else to do. The drinks didn’t make me feel better but the action (drinking) did in a way. I desperately needed to do something and somehow I had found myself at a bar.

It was the second time in the week that aunt Caro had opened my bedroom door. That was too much, considering I did not want her to open it all. I was getting depressed and I did not feel like talking to anyone, not even Noah whose conversations I used to love so much. “What’s going on with you?” she inquired. &

Noah handed me a folded piece of white paper.“What is this?” I asked, my eyes boring into him.“Open it,” he said with a slight shrug of his shoulders.

Aunt Caro and Linda found us seated on the grass a few meters away from mount Tom. Being close to the trail meant we occasionally got weird glances from passersby. Even with many interracial couples in south bend, people still acted like it was a strange phenomenon. Noah didn't seem to notice. May be I did because I had been feeling more insecure about myself since I arrived in this new country. On the good side, I was now beginning to believe Noah Elliot actually loved me and would do anything to keep me in the United States.

“What do you feel for me?” I asked Lena. I felt her body stiffen and her heart beating a few paces faster than it had been a while ago. It was clear that she was taken aback by the question. “It's okay if you don't want to answer the question right away.” I added quickly, not wanting to make her feel uncomfortable. I had just got her back on my good side and I did not want to lose her again. I did not think I could handle being apart from her for a long time.Lena didn't say anything even after hearing that. I figured she was con

I froze when I realized that I’d said that out loud. In a moment of excitement and overwhelming happiness, the truth I tried to hide had come out on its own. Disengaging from Noah, I faced him. “Uhmmm,” I stood up, trying to come up with something. How was I going to change the subject in this critical moment?

The trumpeting sound of an alarm woke me up with a start. Reaching out for my phone, I tapped the snooze icon and spent the next ten minutes trying to convince myself that it wasn’t too early to get up because Noah was going to pick me up in less than an hour. Ever since I checked into the country, I had not woken up that early. I never had any reason to do so. Ten minutes later, the alarm sounded again, this time more irritating than before. Considering that the volume was high, I was sure Linda and aunt Caro had woken up and were cursing the day they let me into their house. Well, mostly Linda because aunt always woke up at 5:30. This time I stopped the clock to prevent more unwanted loud sounds.

I caught Noah’s body just in time, before it could hit the asphalt. My eyes darted around, as the hooded assailant ran away. A police car which had been in the parking lot went off after him while a cop from the court house ran towards me, while talking on phone. By now, I was kneeling down because Noah’s body had felt too heavy as he became unconscious.
