Chapter 21
Because so far I have been going towards this man’s house there seems to be no human settlement nearby this area at all.  What kind of a psyche is he? He is surely mad enough or should I say, ascetic enough to give up on all worldly attachments that he is living far off inside a field” Martha kept blabbering to herself. It has been one hour and they still had not reached the destination.   “It is going to take a while” answered her mother when Martha inquired to her how long it will take to reach the destination.   “A while? What sort of an answer is that? Depending on this situation the three of us are in, ‘while’ can be interpreted as another one hour by me and as a whole day of traveling inside these fields” argued Martha with herself only since she couldn’t argue with her mother to seek the explanation of whi

But how long has it anyway been for our relationship to grow? Hardly a day” Martha kept giving herself excuses to escape the question for whether Matthew was in love with who she is or simply interested in how she looks or what assets she had got. “Who gets intimate with his girlfriend on the very first day of relationship? Also, what would happen if I deny him to have those intense moments and turn a deaf ear to his silly jokes? Would he still love me the way he used to do when I would give in to his desires and laugh at his jokes? Huh, poor Martha and her fancy tale of getting loved unconditionally. Ugh, these sessions of self-speaking are good but I am way too much into them than I should be. I need to speak to someone.  Not either of my parents for sure but someone else. There are two people I need the most right now. Not both appearing at once but the presence of either one of t

Therefore, the whole region depended predominantly on agricultural activities and it would be a choice of a fool to seek inhabitation nearby such a barren land. Benjamin drove a little farther from the exit from the fields to reach a place where there were big rock lying on the ground on to which a person could sit to take some rest, usually someone who would have come all the way from the fields. He stopped the car nearby the stones. He came out of the car followed by Cindy. Martha preferred to stay where she was seated until Cindy said, “Come outside Martha, you will feel better and after sometime we will resume our journey.” Martha did as her mother told her to do so. She was not out of her senses. She now acted in adherence to only one principle, ‘Do as mother say’ and hence she acted accordingly. Somewhere in her heart, she knew something is just not right at all. But she had lost the valor t

Martha was the last to board the car and they continued their journey. Benjamin drove in the direction Cindy had been looking in when she sat on the rock.  Martha still not convinced if this is going to be the route they would be continuing their journey on until her father began to stride on through the motor vehicle. “Here we go again” she mumbled to herself. This time too, the path followed a narrow lane, however broader than the one they have been driving through for the past few hours.  Again, there were trees flanking either of the sides of this lane.  The road seemed more developed than the last one since there were less uneven patches in it  Benjamin was accelerating more this time as compared to their travel experience with the previous lane since he had lesser number of uneven patches to deal with.  The car was yet moving at a

What is it you want to figure out in that?” asked Martha. Cindy, for the first time today, was at a loss of words. Martha, realizing that, further added, “Also, you want me to be sitting inside the car while daddy do lift the car with the jack.  Wouldn’t that be burdensome for him?” Cindy was clearly bewildered as to what should she even reply to her valid arguments.Martha finally spoke, “What are you two hiding inside that trunk? I have already seen my travel baggage there. What else are you two hiding.” Her parents exchanged a look at each other and were clearly now in a state of bewilderment. Martha, realizing it is the perfect time to find the secrets out, quickly went and grabbed the handle of the trunk.  She then lifted the trunk only to be taken aback by surprise. Not just Martha’s travel baggage was kept i

Martha again restricted her thought process since whatever assumptions she set her beliefs upon would be sooner or later shattered after her mother reveals the truth. “Have some patience. The beans will be spilled really soon.  Even if mommy denies speaking up the truth, I would be fine with it and won’t stress her to do so. Just do what they say. Let’s see how this ends up” Martha smiled without a reason, just trying to be positive in this situation. Only god knew how better or worse the things are going to get for her.The punctured tire was now replaced by the spare tire and her father had also kept the car jack back to its place. Martha, by that time, returned to the car and helped her father load the luggage back in the boot. She lifted her own baggage to be kept into the boot space.  Only by lifting it a few inches from the ground that Martha realized how heavy it was

However, she instantaneously regretted the last line she said and her expressions could tell that she would do anything to retract the last statement from her mouth.   Alas, she cannot. Nor did she felt it right at this point in time to apologize to her daughter. She just lowered her head.   Martha’ on the other hand, heard it all silently. She even got surprised upon hearing from her mother that she saw her bending down nearby the tire as she wanted to keep it a secret.   Upon hearing the last statement, as soon as she heard it from her mother’s mouth, she felt her heart exploding with sorrow.  She grinded her teeth so as not to make any sobbing sound which she desperately wanted to do.  Moreover, she closed her eyes so as to not give her emotions any path to inundate on to her cheeks and become

CHAPTER 28
Every time I would think this starless night couldn’t get any darker, it surprises me by bringing to view an even darker sight which compels me to make sure my eyesight is working properly. How come I can put the blame on mommy and daddy when I myself do not feel like to disturb this serene yet wild scene of the silence of the woods? It may be more of serene and less of wild now. But my inner gut is telling me the vice versa is going to happen.  In fact, it wouldn’t remain serene at all and just get wilder and wilder. Hope I am wrong” They kept traveling for another few meters while Martha slid to the other side of the seat in her quest to find something different on this side which, to her surprise, she did. There was light. In the entire journey that was spent in the night so far and during the time the sun was almost set, never had she witnessed li

Chapter 29
The fire torches were placed along with the trees whilst maintaining a distance so to not lead to a wildfire spreading throughout the forest.   They flanged on both sides of the car and Benjamin adhered to the path carved out for them through the lit torches. Just as they crossed the foremost duo of fire torches flanking them on both the sides, a loud howl penetrated through the jungle only to reach the ears of Martha along with her parents – Benjamin and Cindy – and to further spread throughout a range of 5-6 miles from the origin of the howling sound.  As soon as the sound – rather the terror it carried – reached Martha, a Goosebumps appeared all over her body since whatever she had casually imagined earlier about lions, wolves and other wild animals only being able to live here, indeed came true. She, under fear, cried out, “Mom!” Her mother didn’t even acknowledge h

She turned behind and saw the fire blowing out from every fire torch that they have passed through. She turned back and took to her parents to ask if they too felt the same she did.  However, she avoided it since she wasn’t in a mood to entertain silence or unsatisfactory response to her questions right now. She noticed it again! “The fire went off as soon as they passed through that respective fire torch” Though she didn’t resolve on looking back to see how it was being blown out, she could sense a breathing sound loud enough to peer through the window glasses and reach her eyes. It was a groaning sound depicting heavy breathing. The sound, although not much audible to Martha, was so strong that Martha felt whatever was originating that sound is sitting right behind her, thereby serving as one of the reasons why she avoided to turn back to investigate the matter properly.
