Chapter 11
After taking a bath, she came out of the bathroom and opened her wardrobe to select the dress she was going to wear. Her eyes fell on the red dress that she’d planned to wear on the occasion of today’s gathering.  This again reminded her of Matthew. “He’d be mad at me tomorrow when I’d show up.  We had planned so much for today but everything has gone in vain now. Worst among all is that I won’t even get a chance to explain this all to him today only as it’d take a whole day in going to and returning from granny’s place plus the time we’d be staying there. Better would be if I seek an apology from him tomorrow only. I can bring him a present as a token of my apology. Asking some flowers from Uncle Belvot sounds good!” She wore the same dress she had decided to wear for the Sunday gathering. She c

She had been doing so ever since she had come back to home after spending time with Matthew from yesterday. Also, these very deep conversations had begun ever since her plan for today was dropped and there was no one she could speak about how she felt. Therefore, she preferred to share her misfortune with her own self. “I had read somewhere that one’s best friend is one’s own self.  That is so true since only one can understand her own feelings better than anyone else in this world. Or maybe Matthew will listen to me attentively as he loves me a lot! Nope, he will only turn my misery into his silly jokes, which he does EVERY SINGLE TIME. Anyway, I like the way he does that. He surely does that to distract me from thinking about my problems. I love him!” She was quite enjoying talking to herself.   She again saw outside the window. As far as her gaze traveled, all she could witness was lu

Chapter 13
She would prepare her most favorite of the dishes. While it is also true that Martha loved everything her granny would make on her visit.  The reason her granny would give whenever asked by Martha’s mother how she make such savoring delicacies was that she uses a very special ingredient which is available everywhere. When asked the name of ingredient she was referring to, she’d say ‘love’. Love is something you can pour in abundance into your dishes and it’d never be sufficient for the dish you make. It is the only ingredient which you can keep on adding to a dish and the dish would go on to become better.   Moreover, when it would be the time to say goodbye to her granny to return to home, her grandmother would give Martha a good amount of money as a token of her love. Martha always used to refuse to accept the money saying that she can get it from

Chapter 14
Martha posed so innocent a smile that could be weighed against a billion dollar and yet would nonchalantly outweigh the hefty amount. This smile of Martha encouraged her grandfather to get back to preparing something good for her granddaughter and began with his work.  He again ran his eyes across what was kept in front of him. There were eggs in front of him so he though to make a cheese omelet. Now that he had the main ingredient of his dish, he began to find the secondary ingredients like cheese, some spices, essential vegetables, etc. He gathered all the ingredients; some from the cupboard, some from the vegetables basket and some from the drawer. After gathering all the essential ingredients, he now began to find the utensils. He first of all took out a bowl in which he would blend the eggs.  He, meanwhile blending the eggs, added the cheese to the bowl. He

Chapter 15
After a journey of not more than ten minutes, the restaurant arrived. The restaurant was not big enough but was capable of comfortably cater to twenty guests at once.  Martha along with both her parents occupied one of the sections of the restaurant. The day being Sunday, they had to wait for around five minutes to find a vacant place. Nonetheless, they found a place and seated themselves. On the two seats that were adjacent to each other sat Martha’s parents, Benjamin and Cindy. In their front sat Martha with the seat besides her being vacant.  The duo still didn’t seemed to be on talking terms, nor did Martha felt the need to inquire about the matter since she’d dealt with enough of it in her own mind. She rather was focused on what to order for her to eat.  As soon as she had entered the restaurant, she was delighted wit

It isn’t too long a journey” clearly evident that she didn’t pay much heed to her mother’s words and was more focused on her sandwich. The big bite of the sandwich had resulted in the exposure of all the ingredients that have been packed inside the sandwich. Martha took a look and found cucumber slices inside it. This reminded her of her grandfather’s words ‘I will force you into eating green veggies’ “You had succeeded in your venture Paa. I am now fond of these green veggies” thought Martha as she remembered the incident that occurred more than a decade back.  It took not more than five minutes for Martha to eat the ham sandwich. Her devotion towards the sandwich finally ended when she took the last bite of the sandwich.  The last bite was more of a humdrum bite as all there remained was bread since she had already had most of th

Chapter 17
Benjamin quickly got down on his knees as he saw Martha’s left ankle moving abruptly, believing the cause of her pain must be somewhere there only. As he held her ankle in his own hand, Martha very slightly lost balance to which Benjamin raised his other hand for Martha to hold on to in order to balance herself. As he investigated the degree of the cut on her ankle made by the string, Martha balanced herself by holding his father hand and another hand resting on the restaurant walls. Honestly, she didn’t feel any sort of pain even if the skin was cut deep by the string, for she was finally able to see his father being sensitive and precautious towards her which she felt was enough to survive even the greatest of pain.  In a nutshell, she wasn’t experiencing any sort of pain but was rather delighted. Her mother soon arrived at the scene as Benjamin was keenly engaged in determining the nature of the wound. At prima faci

That’s when she discovered a file kept in the glove box which she never saw before.   As her mother was keeping the first aid kit back in to the glove box, Martha came up with a question to ask her, “Mommy, why did you go out of the restaurant before any of us? Were you seeing somebody outside?” Hearing this, Cindy quickly shut the glove box and said, “That’s none of your business Martha.” She was somewhat taken aback by the response of her mother over such a small question.   Only a couple of minutes ago she was exhibiting her motherly nature towards me by making sure the safety pin don’t hurt me while she dressed my wound. And now she acts as if she is my stepmother who answers every question from her stepchildren just to avoid their presence. They kept traveling in the same direction until she saw a sign that her grandmother had told her way long ag

“At least I can share my feelings with a tree” smiled Martha. “Everything would become normal as it was once we had reached granny’s place. She’s the only person at this time I can think of who’d understand me. Of course Matthew as well but it’s impossible for him to reach out to me and hug me tightly and say repeatedly how much he missed me and how worried he grew when I didn’t show up at the Sunday gathering. I wonder if he’s even missing me or not. If yes, I hope he misses me in a good way and not curse me for not meeting him today” she again lost in talking to her own self.   She just waited patiently to reach to her granny’s home which, as per Martha, was just half an hour away from where they were driving. So lost she was in her thought that when she came back to the reality, she found the window next to her was all covered up

Chapter 20- Where are we Headed?
Martha kept on enjoying the view outside, not opening the window only to get scolded.  The car was moving at a standard pace until the car slowed down. Martha, who sat by the left window of the car, didn’t realize the deceleration till the time she the four wheel drive deviate from the usual route to its right.  She observed the view on her left going behind her sight as they moved towards their right. She suddenly turned to her father who had turned the steering to the right to make a turn.   It bewildered Martha and made her rethink the route to her granny’s place.  “But this is not the route to go to granny’s place. Where we are even headed?” she thought to herself, still being unable to question either of her parents.  She took a look of the road they were supposed to dri
