Sleeping Monsters (Akeem's POV)
Monsters... It is always funny to me when I hear people call other animals wild, this is because the wildest animal I have ever met is the human being... We like to believe that we have indeed evolved into something better, that we are higher animals of some sort, but this is just cheap pretence, for when pushed, our true nature emerges like smoke from a fire, then our destructive and wild nature stares us in the eye. The most vicious, and brutal being is the human, more than any lion or wolf. And this monstrosity sleeps in every single one of us, waiting to be unleashed, but maybe it rests in some more than others.Chuks was quiet throughout the drive to his rented apartment, even for a guy who couldn't talk, he did not communicate anything to me in sign language as he normally did. A whole lot of things must have been going through his mind, I concluded. We had just rescued the man from what seemed like a certain death after all. When we pulled over at the apartment, the lights wer

A Family on a New Year's Eve
Family...a group of people related by blood? That is some bullshit definition, if you ask someone like me. My family has always been stronger than a blood bond. Loyalty, honesty, respect and mutual love defined my family. Chuks was not related to any one of us by blood, but he was the best brother any of us could have wished for, I knew he would give up his own life for any of us without even thinking about it, not that he does a lot of thinking anyway, but he would take a bullet for any one of us, and I would do the same for him. But when you're in the business of crime, even the greatest of familial bonds gets tested. It was the end of a year, and another was about to start, this was something that meant nothing to us when we were growing up, it after all spelled the continuation of our suffering through another year, most of the time we had less than enough to eat on these days while others merry and celebrated the beginning of the new year. I remember one of such nights, father ca

The Two Sides
We headed to Badur's after the dinner, a new year party was being thrown for the family, and I was being inducted into the White Lions Society, that night, and the Alhaj was coming to town. It would be the first time since he got stabbed. The society was meant for the wealthiest and most progressive men of Harmony city, dating back to the very first founders of the city, according to the members anyway. I personally saw them as a group of greedy, corrupt, conniving spineless fools who sought new ways and methods of bleeding the city dry. I agreed to join them of course, as a business strategy. The police chief, whom I already easily got into my pocket was a member, some important politicians and traditional rulers too, and some wealthy business men whom I would like to get into businesses with. So the White Lion Society was a very fertile field for me to plant some seeds into. I was already the king of the criminal underworld, but I wanted more... I wanted the whole of the fucking ci

Fly too High.(Akeem's POV)
Do you know the story of Icarus that flew too close to the sun and fell from the sky? Yeah, I could liken that story to that of Zuomin. It is good to be ambitious, and keep your head up, and your shoulders high. But, sometimes ambition and too much the hubris, and pride, leads to a catastrophic downfall, especially in these streets. And when you're down, it means you're dead. Zuomin was born into a poor family in China, just like us. He was brought to the united kingdom when he was young, and he was taken in by uncle Jack, a red pole in the triad. Jack brought him up and he gradually climbed through the ladder, betraying most of his close friends and associates, including Jack too. Jack was found dead in his mansion one day, and Zuomin was the closest thing he had to family and he was his right hand. Most of the people in his triad suspected foul play in Uncle Jack's death, but nothing was proven, and Jack had a lot of enemies, and Zuomin threw the suspicions off by going after every

Caged (Kaz's POV)
Freedom... There is nothing as important as a man's freedom to do as he likes, eat what he wants, think what he wants, and be wherever he wants to be whenever he wants to be there. Take away a man's freedom and he is at that moment less than human. I had heard plenty of stories from incarcerated men, and I tell you that no words can describe the horrors that men and women face and commit within the walls of prisons. My heart pounded so fast that I thought it was going to explode, I had never felt so vulnerable and lost in my life. In the streets, when you return from prison, it adds to your cred, but I tell you, there isn't a single thing, not even one that is glorious about it. I walked through the gates of Kiree Federal Prison, everything making my hair stand, from the looks on the warder's faces to the shouts and screaming of prisoners, most of them looking like they crawled out of a very bad dream. The handcuffs made me so uncomfortable, and the chains on my legs made it almost

Music Found Me with My Brother(Sholas' POV)
Life hits you quickly when you grow up in a family like mine, in a neighborhood like Hells' Gaze, and in a city like Harmony. We were a little on the young side when Dad and Mom died, so we grew up looking up to our brothers, Kaz and Kunle and I need not tell you the story of how they both turned out to become the most feared mobsters in Harmony city. The only adult member of our family who wasn't dead or rotting in jail when we were growing up was our uncle, Kasali and he was a notorious smuggler, he was not in any way better than our brothers... So, at a point in my life, when I started to believe that there was no other destiny out there for me when I started to believe that at a point in my life, I would have to join the family business of crime, I found music... Or I could say music found me. I would say I started writing down and putting a voice to the lyrics of songs in my head around the same time our father died. I was already going through a shitload of things with Mom's d

Homecoming (Kunles' POV)
A few months passed after London was delivered to the Investors, nine months to be precise. Businesses were still good, and there was peace in the streets, except for a few raids by the DSS. I had intended for Chuks to come back home with Akeem and Nameless, but he had something entirely different on his mind. He took a trip down to a place that had always weirdly fascinated him... Japan. When Akeem returned home without Chuks, I was furious, but the moment Akeem told me he went to Japan, I burst into laughter. His weird fascination with Japan and most especially Japanese blades were always fascinating to me. I guess he always saw himself as a samurai or ninja of a sort, like Yasuke the black samurai, if he ever existed. This even earned him the nickname Yasuke. I missed my brother, but he was in good hands in Japan, and I made sure of it. I had some of our Japanese associates make sure that he does not turn Tokyo into another London.Chuks was somewhere in Tokyo playing with swords a

All Hell Broke Loose(Kunles' POV)
Akeem was not there with the rest of us when Kaz came in, he was supposed to be clearing a shipment at the docks after picking up my son from school. He was already running late at about nine-thirty in the evening. When he returned later, the party was over and we were once again just by ourselves, the family as I had originally planned, but he was not alone. I took the opportunity of the gathering to introduce Eesha to the family. She joined us when the party was already dying down. Kaz stared at me mischievously as she walked up to us in our booth and sat beside me, she greeted everyone warmly and they all responded, with puzzling looks on their faces, they all gave me demanding stares, waiting for me to say something. Eesha too could not wait for me to make the introduction, she was starting to look uneasy, and all eyes were fixed on her. "So... Everybody..." I started to speak and I could hear Shade humming "Hun hun. ""This is Eesha, and she is... ""The girlfriend," Shade cut

The Baddurs.
The loud sound of gunshots, the wheezing sounds of bullets, and the yelling of people rose from outside the restaurant. The men that attacked us were well trained and coordinated and armed to the tooth, the guards were already getting their asses handed to them when we joined the fight. We returned fire and immediately downed two of the dozen men that attacked us. The street had turned to a warzone with corpses of our guards and denizens who were unfortunate to be around there when hell broke loose. But it was our city, our street, and these outsiders were uninvited guests, I had made a call over to all the gangs in Hells Gaze, now under the Warlords. We had put a little bit of distance between the family and the warlords, but I needed someone in charge who would be loyal to the family no matter what. So, I chose Sulaiman, Samsin's younger brother. He stepped up after his brother's death, and he was just as loyal and capable as him too. The Calvery was on its way, but we needed to ho
