Bk 2 Ch 10: Nate
Fuck! Fuck! Fuckety fuck fuck! Someone beat me to asking Kimi, and she’d said yes! Fuck! I’m okay, I’ll just ask someone and get into their group. It’ll be great. Combine that with my birthday party, and things will head in the right direction. Besides, Rose took me to Spring Formal last year, and then got together with Kam.  Shit. Now I’m sounding like one of those “nice guys” I accused Jeremy of being. I had to check myself. Kimi looked happy that someone asked her. Kimi looked happy. I should be happy for Kimi. Damnit.  “So, my birthday is coming up,” I said after school. Rose started bouncing. “What are you planning?” I looked at her lik

Bk 2 Ch 11: Kimia
“Hey, Kimia,” I was back in math, and Zack was flirting again.  “Shh. I’m concentrating,” I told him without looking up. He chuckled. “Why is it so sad that parallel lines have so much in common?” I rolled my eyes. “Because they’ll never meet. Now, shush!” A few minutes later, he poked me with his eraser, “Are you going to Nate’s party Friday?” I shrugged. I hadn’t thought about going. Nate had backed off a bit since kissing me, if you could call that a kiss. It was just a light brush of the lips. By my standards, that doesn’t count. At least it should count. I pu

“I really don’t understand why you read the crap you do,” Kimi’s angelic voice said as she floated into History.  Rose followed her in. “I read it because I like it.” “Okay, but take that last CEO story you told me about. He basically rapes his wife, wants a divorce, then is pissed when she agrees to one. Where is the logic in that?” Kimi set her stuff down by her desk next to mine.  “I would say an overinflated ego on the dick CEO?” I ventured. Kam snorted. I shouldn’t encourage this debate, but, hell! Sometimes it’s fun to watch the shit fly. Rose nodded. “That’s it exactly. Only when he realizes he’s not hurting he

“So, vodka and wine? I’m assuming I’m having juice or water?” I asked Mrs. Mactire.   She chuckled, and poured the vodka into the shot glasses. “Drink. It helps to loosen the tongue when discussing topics that are difficult to think about.” She pushed one of the shot glasses toward me.   “I don’t drink,” I said, pushing it back to her. “Thank you anyway, Mrs. Mactire.”   “Call me Mary. After the story I’m going to tell you, we’re going to be on a first name basis.” She drank her shot of the liquor. “Drink. You’ll need it.”   I eyed the small glass dubiously. There wasn’t much of the clear liquid, but I knew that the one time I had alcohol I’d ended up passed out on a bed. I shook my head.

When I’d finished my homework, I went to check on Ma and Kimi. I found them in the basement, watching one of Ma’s stupid movies. Ma was sporting a nice buzz, but Kimi had crashed. She was asleep with her head on one of the couch pillows, and her feet on Ma’s lap.  “How much did she drink?” I asked. Ma giggled. “Two shots, and two glasses. Your girl is a lightweight.”  I shook my head, but couldn’t resist a small smile. “She’s sixteen, never really drank, and I don’t think she had anything to eat.” “Shit! I forgot about dinner,” Ma pulled her phone out to order from one of the restaurants.

“So, Kimia, have you changed your mind about Nate’s party tonight?” Zack asked me during Pre-Calculus.    I smiled. “Not a chance. I’m looking forward to having the house to myself and watching Netflix until the bunnies come home.”   Zack looked confused, and it was kind of cute. “Bunnies?”   “My brother and his girlfriend. They’re going to the party, and they take almost every advantage to get some privacy.”   He laughed at that. “I don’t have that problem. I’m an only child, and don’t have a girlfriend, yet.” He gave me a meaningful look, and I could feel my cheeks getting warm.   “Well,” I tucked a piece of hair behind my ear, “that just sounds lone

“Hey! Can I get one of those minty drinks?” someone asked. I couldn’t help but grin at that request. Minty drink! If only that kid knew how many minty drinks out there.   I mixed up a mojito, the best “minty drink” I know, and gave it to them. The party seemed to be going awesome, and more and more people were trusting my mixing skills.   “Happy birthday, Nate,” a cute girl with golden curls grinned at me. I felt my phone buzzing, but ignored it.   “What can I get for you, Beth?” I asked her.   She put a strand of hair behind her ear. “I would love a screwdriver.”   “Coming up.”    I was mixin

I woke up to the smell of bacon and coffee, and immediately wanted to go back to sleep. My head was pounding, and my mouth was dry. I looked over at who was in bed with me, and I was relieved to see Rose and Kam. I looked around the room, and realized it wasn’t mine. It was Mary’s.   The previous night came back to me in full force. Now I really wanted to go back to sleep. I can’t believe I got drunk and sang karaoke. In front of the choir geeks. Their poor ears! Still, I couldn’t stay in someone else’s bed forever, and I know from experience how good Nate’s hangover breakfast tastes. I sighed, and gently got out of the bed, not waking Rose and Kam.   “Good morning, Beyonce,” Nate said when I came into the kitchen. Jimmy and Saoirse were also up and moving around the house with some cleaning supplies.

Bk 2 Ch 18: Nate
Kimi, Kam, and Rose left around eleven thirty. Jimmy, Saoirse, and I finished cleaning the house. It was the one condition Ma had for my parties. I could run my fake bar, but I was in charge of cleanup after. Including washing her sheets. I think it’s why she lets me have the parties in the first place. It was a guarantee the house would be clean, plus it was a good excuse to go to midnight mass on Fridays. One thing I knew was that Zack needed to be given a dose of empathy. “So, I need some backup tomorrow,” I said casually to my cousins. Jimmy perked up. “What kind of backup?”  I smirked at him. “The kind that requires someone to hold an idiot down while I scare the shit out of him.”

“Hey, Kimia,” Zack tried to talk to me during Math. I studiously ignored him. He poked me with the eraser of his pencil. “Please, look at me. I don’t want your goons to attack me again.”  That got my attention. I looked at him confused. “I don’t have goons,” I whispered. “Stop talking to me.” I tried to concentrate on the assignment. Zack wouldn’t let up. “Come on, I need to apologize or Nate will kill me.” Nate. Of course. I sighed. “Fine, apologize.” “I’m sorry I said anything about the video on Friday. Do you forgive me?” He didn’t even look at me. The bastard wasn’t sorry he thought I was
