Chapter 21
Shen’s lungs were screaming for relief as he pushed himself beyond his normal endurance level through the darkened caves. At one point it was so black he couldn’t see his hand before his face.  Even so, he continued to run at top speed.  He didn’t want to take the chance of standing in one place long enough for one of the guards to detect his scent. He came across limited obstacles in his path, which only proved that the caves were well used by the vampires.  He wanted to slow down and search for a less popular route, but Maria’s warning rang in his mind loud and clear.  He couldn’t take the chance that he might find an easier route to exit before the guards were able to detect him. When light finally lured him from off in the distance, he slowed down slightly.  He did his best to listen for movement over his own heavy breathing.Aware that his breathlessness could catch the attention of the vampires whose h

Chapter 22
Shen spent the rest of the ride sharing as much information about the den and its layout as he could remember, including the route he took for escape. By the time we reached the motel, we had a fairly clear picture in our minds of the den’s interior and its occupants. We went to McDonald’s drive through and loaded up on fast food before returning to the room.  Shen ate the majority of his meal before we reached the hotel, but not before Elsa produced a packet of wet wipes and insisted he clean the blood from his hands and face before eating.Once in the hotel room, Shen immediately set to cleansing the rest of his body.  The shower was warm and inviting and more than a little refreshing.  With the water as hot as he could tolerate it, Shen stood so that the pulsing shower could massage away the tension in the overused muscles of his thighs.I paced the room while I waited for Shen to finish showering.  My friend gave the impressio

Elsa made her way down the dark and silent corridor. Maria gave her detailed instructions on how to find Mervin’s suite of rooms.  Since he was new in residence, Maria wasn’t able to provide much information on the wizard, but from what she did say Elsa got the impression the wizard was more learned in alchemy than he was in spirits and spells.  She hoped this was the case. Her body ached with each step she took.  She longed to find an easy chair somewhere and take a much needed nap.I’m getting too old for this, she thought. As she neared the end of the long, dimly lighted hallway she spotted a faint light beneath a thick mahogany door.  The beautifully carved, fire breathing dragons that were artfully depicted on the heavy wood told her she’d reached her destination.Maria had assured her that no vampires would be found near Mervin suite, but even so, she decided to take a precaution.  Not

Chapter 24
Tatyana stared at the room full of fallen vampires as they slowly disintegrated before her very eyes.  The burning pain was lessening enough for her to be able to stand on her own, but her chest felt constricted; giving her the feeling of extreme claustrophobia.  She needed to get outside and breathe some fresh air.Pushing past Bruce with remarkable strength, she rushed down the stairs and picked her way through the debris and remnants of fallen vampires as quickly as she could.  There were still a few vampires to deal with, so Bruce wasn’t able to follow her as he would have liked. Grumbling his dissatisfaction over the situation, he continued his onslaught with a renewed vengeance.Tatyana had almost reached the exit when Elsa called out her name. Stopping short, she turned slowly to look into the face of her dear friend and ward.  Elsa had all she could do to control the reaction she had to the changes that had occurred on Tatyana’s

Chapter 25
Osip paced the confines of his desert den.  He’d harbored such high hopes of winning the favor of Count Dracula, only to have them shattered by that bitch, Lucinda.  How could he have known she was so bonded to Nambru that she’d take her life rather than become his bride?  Now, who would help him care for the baby he planned on pawning off to Dracula as his grandson? He didn’t want just any female. If that was the case, he’d be gone right now.  The woman he took needed to be believable.  She needed to be able to fool Dracula into thinking she wasn’t just the mother of his grandchild, but someone alluring enough to catch the eye of the very discerning Damitru.  Osip saw very few who fit that bill roaming the halls of Nambru’s den.  Lucinda had been perfect; perfect for the ruse, and perfect for him because she aroused him insensibly.  Damn her!He stood before the mirror and adjusted the n
