Chapter 11: The Promise
Emery I removed my hands away from my face and stammered as I saw Caitlyn standing on the balcony door with her arms crossed. “Mates with Alpha Kairo, huh?” She circled around me, and all I could do was look at her with horror. I’m screwed.  “Were you planning on never telling us? The sweet dear family that has given you shelter ever since your whore of a mother died?”  I snapped. This day has far been worse than what I was expecting. I couldn’t control the words that came out of my mouth anymore. “Your sweet dear family? More like an atrocious and power-hungry family! Do you think that I don’t know all of your secrets? How you had a miscarriage last year because you were busy whoring around? About how your dad sleeps around and pervs on young girls? How your mother spends nearly half of your monthly salary because she has an alcohol addiction? Do you think that I’ve been silent because I don’t know anything about your so-c

Chapter 12: The Attempt
**trigger warning: sexual coercion   Emery The conversation took a serious turn, and we were now looking at each other with conviction. She placed her hands in mine and said, “You can trust me like your own mother.”  I sighed. This is going to be a long conversation. She listened attentively while I shared with her the details of my mother’s death. I also told her where I had been residing for the past few years and all of the vicious things that the Beta family has done to me. She gave out a couple of violent reactions, but I continued on with the story. “And that’s it… Maybe that’s why you haven’t found me for these last few years. It’s like the Beta family has taken me off the radar. I wasn’t allowed to go to school nor the park. I wasn’t even able to explore their garden during my free time. They locked me up in their house to tend to their needs.”   She had a scowl on her face as she u

Chapter 13: The Escape
EmeryI heard the metal door slam open and felt a warm hand touching my cheek.“Are you okay, sweetie? I’m here now. I didn’t forget about my promise.” My vision was occupied with dark spots as my eyes threatened to close. “Stay with me now, Emery. We’re going to the packhouse, your new home.” I am still shaking and traumatized by the events that I didn’t even notice that someone else was there, plummeting Beta Armad down on the ground. I heard his pained groans and smiled in relief, knowing that I was safe now.I looked up to Liliana and weakly said, “Thank you.” I smiled at her fondly until my vision finally drifted to black.  ***I gasped. I opened my eyes and looked at the unfamiliar surroundings that I was in. I also felt that the world was moving—I was in a car. I sat up in defense but relaxed when I saw Luna Liliana in front of me

Chapter 14: The Rumors
Emery Two days have passed, and my life here has been great—better than the one I had in the Williams family by a hundredfold. There’s really not much that I do. I just watch TV in my room, do my own chores, walk in the garden, and talk with Liliana. I will be lying, however, if I say that I’m entirely happy in this house. I smell Kairo’s scent everywhere, but he’s nowhere to be seen. He’s so near yet so far.  It was a new morning, so I went down to the kitchen and whipped myself up some pancakes. I made a couple of extra pieces and covered them, just in case the pack children would want to have something sweet in the morning. I placed a sticky note on the lid that read, “pancakes” then left the kitchen to eat mine. I was happy to see that I was the only one in the dining room. I still wasn’t used to the people here in the pack. The peaceful atmosphere was destroyed when a group of rowdy teenagers my age entered the dining room in a

Chapter 15: The Girlfriend
Amelia This week has been off. Ever since the party ended, Kairo has not been paying attention to me that much. He’s a cold person, to begin with, but he always made sure that he had time to spare to spend with me. Even then, he would fast-track meetings just so he could hold me while watching a movie. Now, he can’t even hold me as I sleep! Every day, I feel like I’m losing the position that I’ve worked hard to acquire. Is it because we aren’t mates?  I sighed and walked down the living room when I heard Kairo’s reprimanding voice. I got curious about the scene, so I listened in on their conversation.  “Didn’t you hear my warning during the Williams’ trial?” He asked the group of friends that I was acquaintances with. “I told you that I take these circumstances very seriously. As your Alpha, I want what is best for the pack, and this is not the kind of behavior that is optimum for our growth and development. You got that?”

Chapter 16: The Sweetness
Emery I followed Kairo, not even sparing a glance at Amelia. This incident just proves her disdain for me. I even gave her the benefit of the doubt at the party, but I guess those were her true colors. I thought that she was reasonably mean to me because I took her dress, but this has blown way out of proportion.  I wanted to thank Kairo once again for defending me, but his strides were too long that I couldn't keep up. I’m sure that he could hear my footsteps, but it’s as if he doesn’t care. “Kairo, wait,” I called out, but he still ignored me. I called out his name once again, louder this time, “Kai.” He paused for a while but sped up his strides. Our gap was getting bigger and bigger, but I still followed him through and through. However, once he had entered the training center, I couldn’t follow him anymore. I respect his workspace, and I don’t want to disturb the other wolves in their training. I sighed and t

Chapter 17: The "Date"
Emery I went back to my room to prepare for Kairo and I’s trip. Was this a date? I thought to myself. I felt giddy and excited that I was finally having some alone time with my mate. I went to my closet and tried to find the most decent clothes that I had. I only ever have plain t-shirts and jeans but hidden in the very back of my closet were my mom’s clothes. I only wore them during special occasions, but I feel like this event is special enough for me to wear them. I hauled the box out of the closet then started delicately digging for something casual but presentable in the box. I smiled as I saw a simple sky blue dress at the bottom of the box. It was made from a light material, and it went up down to my knees. I grabbed it out of the box and placed it in front of my body in the mirror. The material was so flowy and light that I was afraid of tearing it in half. I handled it delicately and placed it on my bed as I went to shower.&

Chapter 18: The Lake
Emery He looked at me incredulously. This was the first time that I was able to elicit some type of reaction from him aside from anger and annoyance. I smiled at him widely and waved my hands in front of his face since he was still staring at me intently. “Are you okay?” I asked, concern laced in my voice.  He snapped from his thoughts and coughed lightly. “I’m fine.” He said. “Are you sure?” “Yeah, let’s just eat, and so we can go back earlier,” He said while opening the picnic basket that Liliana had prepared. I pouted because of his words. He looked at me and scoffed. “Fine, what did she prepare for us?” I asked, excited. My eyes widened when I saw an array of desserts. They were all my favorites! Cheesecake, ice cream, and donuts were placed in front of me, and I couldn’t help but look at them with hungry eyes. I reached out for a plate and put everything on my plate. I was indulging in the swee

Chapter 19: The Nickname
Emery All the way back to the packhouse, I kept on trying to talk to Kairo. I told him about the first time that I went to the packhouse and how I met Dalton. I don’t think he was paying attention, but I was just so elated when he asked me to call him “Hux.” “Hux, Hux!” I said.  “Can you keep your mouth shut?” He asked, annoyed. “But you still did not answer my question. Where did your name come from? It’s so cool and unique. And it suits you perfectly.” I rambled, quickening my steps so that I could walk nearer to him. “You don’t have to know.” He sighed. “And I regret telling you about that name. Can you just forget about it?” “Nope,” I shook my head. “No return. No exchange. I’m never going to let go of that name now.” I said, smiling cheekily at him. He groaned, “Were you always this annoying?”  “No. I’m like this only with you.” I smiled, attempting to poke his arm. He

Chapter 20: The Blame
Emery I excitedly went down to the playground after lunch had finished. It was still a little early, so I was the first one there. I sat on one of the swings and enjoyed the sweet and cool breeze. “Hi!” I heard a voice say beside me. “Emery, right?” She asked. I looked back and saw a tall, curly-haired girl. Her dark skin shone in the sun. “Yeah, hi!” I greeted back. “Are you Desiree?” I asked. “That’s me,” She responded, sitting on one of the swings next to me. She looked at me momentarily, and I got shy. “Is there something on my face?” I asked. “No! Sorry, was I staring?” She laughed embarrassedly. “It’s just that Dalton and Dante were right. You really are pretty.” I blushed. “You’re prettier.” She laughed. “Thanks, that really means a lot. Especially coming from you.” We fell in a comfortable silence as we swung back and forth. I wanted to become closer to her, so I initiated a conversation
