Chapter 140- Here they come
"Easy now, witch. They are my next appointment, I have nothing to get squirrely about," the hideous creature soothed, hands held up. He cried out to the advancing men, "Hey, you are early. I told you four."Livia didn’t hear whatever it was they shouted back over the sudden pounding of her heart in her ears as that magnetic pull in her chest, which she had been steadily hideous creatures, flashed to life with new retaliation, almost tilting her forward with the force of it.It’s them... They were here. The alpha was here, she could feel it. The werewolves were here. The man with blue-green eyes and his warrior.Even without the apparent pull, they were close enough now for her to remember, and it still took a frozen instant to believe what her e

Chapter 141- Come with me
Tracing her way to his face, Livia had to clench her teeth to stop a lustful sigh from escaping. She’d hoped the strobing lights made him appear more attractive than he actually was. Unfortunately, they’d apparently had the opposite effect, because this alpha was even more handsome than she remembered. Goodness, it was more than the pull she felt, it was more than that.It should be illegal for someone so obviously dangerous to be that good looking. The contrast of those brilliantly blue-green eyes against his long blonde hair and bronze skin was striking. Despite, or maybe because of, the glare he was sending her way, she had the ridiculous and decidedly ill-advised urge to bite that sharply squared jawline of his or lick those full lips currently pressed into a hard line. The man was the same height as the golden devil and had the same build as beside him. They were twins, obviously, all that chiseled brawn visible even through the cut of his suit, but there was something more refin

Chapter 142- Pet
Finally forcing herself to step out of his arms, Livia holstered her gun. "I take care of myself just fine. And I don't like cages." She didn’t even have time to regret how much she’d just given away with that one sentence before everything about the man in front of her changed. In an instant, Rhye animated expression twisted into something dark and knowing. He bent until they were almost nose to nose, letting her see the shadows behind those beautiful amber eyes. Voice low, serious, and meant for only her to hear, he murmured, "I'd never cage you, little witch. But, I would keep you. Oh, yes, I’d keep you forever." Fast as the snake he was named for, Rhye darted forward and flicked just the tip of his tongue over her upper lip. Livia gasped, arousal igniting inside her in a rush that had her thighs slick and her heart racing. Groaning, his eyes went hooded as he rolled her flavor around in his mouth. "By the Gods, you taste just as good as you smell," he whispered hoarsely. She

Chapter 143- Confuse
The fearless little vixen watched him. Rhye felt the brush of her inquisitiveness like a light caress against his skin, a subtle electricity that tingled and teased. As intrigued as he was by her, he was becoming more and more suspicious. He’d thought she was just a mark, but the red flags were beginning to tally up, one right after another, until there were too many to ignore—Fear letting her go from the club, Rhye ‘losing her,’ how taken they’d been with her since the moment they laid eyes on her. That she’d shown up here, on the one night they were scheduled to meet with Orin, tipped the scales from coincidence to full-blown skepticism. She’d appeared genuinely surprised to see them, but it seemed entirely too suspect to be happenstance. Her motives, however, were a mystery to him. Perhaps, she was a fawner trying to get close to him because of his position. But, maybe, it was something more devious.Sensing his brother was becoming increasingly tempted to leave his post and go to

CHapter 144- Magical dust
That, even here, so far away from the council, Rhye still had to worry about his uncle's spies pissing him off.The only place he could truly be himself, where he could remove the callous facade and breathe, was around Rhye and Joseph, maybe Leon, and only when they were home or in private. They were the only ones who truly knew him. The appearance of the treacherous little witch might be even more worrisome than he’d first thought. If she were a spy, did that mean they’d done something to arouse his uncle’s suspicions? Or was the supposed King of the Council just descending further into madness? But why was he using witches to spy on him? He hated witches. The part that disturbed Rhye most was he was still drawn to her and had to consciously keep himself rooted to the spot, despite his suspicions. Rhye knew if he crossed to her, he’d kiss those perfectly bow-shaped lips. He’d lick across the soft seam of her mouth and demand she part for him so he could thoroughly taste her again. He

Chapter 145- Doubt
Rhye stared out the floor-to-ceiling window, eyes narrowed to block the painfully bright light blazing from Leon’s lighter as he destroyed the magical drugs, burning it to ash with concentrated sunlight. He could feel the witch out there, calling to him. The need to go to her was a thrumming in his bones, an ache in his chest getting increasingly harder to resist. And by asking the ugly beast more about her, he came to know that the woman was working with Francisco. The demon lord was wreaking havoc in the region. No surprise there. At least Livia wasn't working with Dimitri or any of the council leaders. There was something about her, something... lost, that called to him almost as much as the draw. She was a fierce little thing, strong and brave, but there was a vulnerability there, too. What had she lived through to have such a haunted, wary look in those beautiful eyes? Yes, there was a pain in there, but there was something else too, something dark and unnatural for a witch. Some

Chapter 146- at the gym
It had been days since Livia had been at the gym, since she’d gotten home and found her property had been invaded, since she’d gone to the docks only to be surprised by her three strangers. Four days since she’d learned the names of her devilish blonde and familiar stranger. Rhye. Four days since any of the delusions she’d had about tje men had been crushed by the sharp lens of reality. She’d known they were dangerous the moment she saw them in the club, but magical drug dealers? It wasn’t like Livia was a saint herself, but she generally tried to be a good person. Dealing magical drugs crossed a line, and she was still struggling to come to terms with just how wrong she’d been.Unless… was it possible she hadn’t seen things correctly? It’d been night, after all, and she’d been decently far away. No. Livia had great vision at night, an oddity that set her apart from others. She knew better than to believe it was powdered sugar, especially after Leon's throaty moan when he tried it.H

Chapter 147- Safe
Her skin heated suddenly, then rapidly became a tingling sensation like ants were crawling all over her. The unusual feeling demanded her attention, but she couldn’t think clearly as another wave of mindless dizziness swamped her. All she could do was stare down at the strange, feral child with confusion and struggle to break free of his hold on her.She could have sworn his eyes were glowing, a savage wildness gleaming through the darkness trying to drag her down. Her head spun sickeningly. The ground felt as though it was moving beneath her feet, pitching her forward and back, an angry sea in the midst of a storm. She swayed and tried to stay upright while her skin continued to heat, like it had been doused in acid. Instead of clearing the haze enveloping her mind, the pain only seemed to deepen the disorientation and weakness.Without warning, the well of power surged in her chest, rebelling against whatever was happening. It simmered and sparked as the strangest feeling overtook h

Chapter 148- What happened?
The first thing Livia noticed as she began to rouse was the scent of the gym—rubber mats and old sweat that never went away, despite the disinfectant—all clashing with the intoxicating mix of cedar, dark winter berries, and oakmoss.Warm arms tightened around her, holding her against a hard body.Still lingering in the space between wakefulness and sleep, she snuggled into the embrace, holding on tightly to her recurring dream. It was lovely here. She felt cared for. Safe. These moments were the ones she held on to when she opened her eyes and found herself alone.Livia didn't need a man. She could protect herself. She'd survived this long on her own, only occasionally scratching the itch with one-night stands. She was a strong, independent, capable woman. That didn't mean it wasn't something she wanted. These men haunting her dreams hadn't just awoken the hunger in her for companionship and love, they'd intensified it a hundred fold. But, she was equally as wary of them, equally as h

Chapter 149- Fae
When Rhye returned to her side, he swiftly took the spot beside her and pressed a cold cup of water into her hands. "Here… take this, drink," he ordered softly. "It will help revive your strength." Livia nodded and did as she was told. The cool water trickling down her throat was heaven, and she took a moment to gather herself before turning to thank him for the thoughtful gesture. The phrases died on her tongue from the natural curiosity she saw echoed in his blue-green stare. This close to him, she could see the golden flecks within, and the almost golden starburst ringing his pupils. The color was so unique that she caught herself staring, drowning in the vigor of his trustworthy attention. "Thank you," she whispered, leaning her head back against the mirrored wall so she didn’t lean forward to kiss him. Rhye lifted his hand and cupped her face in one calloused palm. The pad of his thumb stroked along her jawline. "Are you feeling better?" "I think so." She nodded barely, and
