I'm sorry
“Hi.”“Hi!” Leah replied breathlessly as she skipped to where Lyons stood. They were in front of the police department. “Do you think they've found her?” Lyons asked her just as they began climbing the stairs that led to the entrance door. Leah couldn’t speak. Tension, the anxiety from the phone call still had a stronghold on her. Last night, while she was running a bath, her phone rang. As soon as she saw the name on the caller ID, her chest heaved with anticipation. Eagerness.   “Can I see you tomorrow, Miss. Lindsey?” the police chief had said. She had tried cajoling him to spill water it was. But man, the guy was a staunch…a no-telly individual, if that made sense. As a result, s

Fingered
==Matteo==I hadn’t fully made it out of town when I noticed a navy blue Toyota trailing me. At first, I had thought nothing of it, but then as time passed I realised the person was in fact on my tail. He’d taken every turn I'd taken. So, now I was convinced. However, I decided to ignore him. Should I keep going and notice he was still following me, I would then lash out.And just like that, he didn’t back off. I made to jam the brakes, but hesitated. That was a foolish thing to do. If I did that, the guy would be forced to hit use brakes too. Or, he would keep going. The consequences were the same. It meant that we both would collide and fall to our deaths. So, instead of jamming my brakes, I gradually slowed down. The car copied me, and I, unable to put up

What in fuck's name
==Olivia==I peeled my eyes open, just in time for sun rays to stream in. I squnited, hugging my pillow tightly. I wished I could stay in bed forever, but for some reason, I rose. I yanked and stretched my body, and for some time, I stared blankly. I, however, soon jerked out of my lazy gaze and walked straight to the bathroom to go through my morning routine. It didn’t take long for my stomach to give a loud groan, making me yawn a second time. I hadn’t had dinner last night, so now, I could really deal. I got hold of some clothes before walking to the door. I pulled it open and just then, my gaze fell on the stuff lying the floor. A white shopping bag. It had the name Durrell printed on it. I looked around, wanting to spot whoever it was had dropped it. I crouched down and grabbed the bag before getting inside. What is this? I dug my hand into the bag feeling the items inside. They were wrapped in what I supposed was polythene. I d

Piece of trash
The tragedy had occurred, exactly a week to Thanksgiving, eight years ago. Lyons could remember that day, as clear a ball of crystal. He could still remember how it was for him and his family. That morning, everyone was downstairs getting ready to have breakfast.  Everyone except Peggy. Initially, no one thought much of it. Sometimes, she would ditch breakfast, mostly because she was at the studio, sketching one drawing or the other. But a couple of hours later and still no sign of her, everyone became concerned. And so, the servants were instructed to get her. They knocked all they could but she wouldn’t answer. Eventually, the door was broken down and lying face down on the floor just beside the bed was Peggy. Lyons could remember how different she looked. Scary, if he was being honest. Peggy's naturally cherry lips had darkened. It'd b

Ice cold shower
==Matteo==I was in an oven. Hot vent of air was squirted at me. Turning again, for the hundredth time, my eyes slipped open. This was no oven. This was my room, but it had somehow had become enchanted and was now attempting to roost me alive. I took my eyes to the A.C. The swishing of air met my ears. So, the stuff was working. Why then was this place blazing hot? Just to be sure, I walked to the A.C and shot my  hand up. Cold air hit me, but it didn’t last long. As soon as the air hit me, it disappeared immediately, as if a force had driven it away. My pajamas was glued to my skin. Sweat covered every part of my body. I frowned. What was all these? I picked up the telephone beside my bed a

Shifting
==Matteo==A massive ache seared through my skull. As if nails were being driven there. My palm was on my forehead and I was rocking back on forth on a chair. I gritted my teeth. It always came this way—shifting—which was why I dreaded the full moon. Shifting was excruciatingly painful. Worse still, I had to endure hours of pain before finally morphing. A grunt left my lips. The pressure in my head was building up. So much so that I felt like pulling my brain out. I left my seat and staggered towards the bathroom. Ever step I took was laborious. I had suddenly weighed a log. But I was determined to get my destination. So, I pushed on—eventually making it inside. As soon as I was inside, I ripped off my clothes and crept into the tub. I turned it on and laid back, waiting to get submerged. For a while, the pain ceased and I caught my breath. Then, almost like a flash, the pain came back. With full force this time. I groaned, clu

Rigid
==Matteo== Hot molten magma churned in my stomach. And intermittently, a surge of steam would rise. This was how best I could describe what I was passing through. My insides were screaming for help. My skin was drenched; it'd become a brackish surface. I tossed and tossed, not knowing that I'd gotten to the very end of the bed. Before I knew it, I was on the floor. I dug my fingers to the carpeted floor, grunting. The sounds I was making were becoming more animalistic. I squeezed my eyes, my way of bottling up the pain. Respirare, inalare. Respir… A sharp pain shot from my stomach; I grunted. Coughing out loud, I rolled on my back, assuming the pose of a foetus. My fingers were getting rigid now, and they hurt like white hot iron.

This is it
==Olivia==I'd made it into a room. Couldn't tell if it was large or small, as a thick fog of darkness wrapped up the place. I literally had been going around in circles, having lost my way to the backdoor. I'd tried several corners, but wasn't fortunate at all. This had to be the seventh I'd gotten into, no kidding.  I prayed this one was it. I prayed this got me outside. I groped around, my hands on the wall, my eyes were wide as ever. This went on for a while until I struck something. A metal rim of some sort. It was way above me. I inched upwards, trying to get a solid grip on it—until I was practically standing on my toes. Fuck.  This was when I rued not to continue using my ballet lessons. The skills would really have come in handy. &n

The big bad wolf
==Matteo== I laid stiff like a corpse, staring blankly. Then, her cry reached my ears. I widened my eyes.  The cry. It reflected pain, hurt, distress. Fuck. I thought of raising, but then, I knew better. So. I closed my eyes, trying to stay focused in order to pinpoint the issue. A surge of energy flooded into my head, and her emotions reached me. I could feel it all: the fright in her voice, her pulsating heart, the dryness around the throat, the sweat. I could sense her perplexity. Olivia… My Olivia is in trouble. She was in trouble and here was I, struggling with this thing that emasculated me.

Dang girl dang
The coffee machine brewed, dispensing the hot brown liquid into a mug. Leah stood, arms akimbo as she waited to have her beverage served. When the liquid rose to the desired level, she turned off the machine —picking the mug before perching on the stool beside the counter. She spilled in some milk, added a cube of sugar and stirred. Her face bearing a bored expression. She took a sip, then had a bit of her biscuit. The coffee, even with the milk, tasted like death. And the biscuit, it was dry. Like grass. These were the only things her taste buds could interpret: bitter and bland. This morning, she'd ordered pizza. Just to force something palatable down her throat, but guess what, her favourite pepperoni pizza had been unusually stale. Too crusty. Bland without the inviting taste of cheese. And what about the iced tea? Ha! She couldn't tell if what she had tak
