Chapter 21
James looked at her with a steady gaze. Clara kept eye contact with him so he knew that she was being completely serious. “I see you’ve come here with a lot of conviction,” he said after a moment. “I will respect that and will not interrupt you.” Clara nodded and started off her speech. “Beryl is coming here now to ask you to save her failing company.” James looked sceptical and Clara kept going. She wasn’t going to stop for anything. “There’s a number of reasons to not give her money. Firstly, she’s been cheating on you the entire time.” Clara opened the folder on the table and took out the photos from the hotel and printouts of Beryl’s texts to her real boyfriend. Clara had selected the texts that were the best evidence of their relationship and showed Beryl’s true reasons for being involved with James. James looked over the photos without much expression on his face. Clara didn’t know what direction his thoughts were going in. If he suspected the evidence was photoshopped

Chapter 22
Beryl’s face turned pale and Clara knew she was seeing the end of the confident façade. “I haven’t committed any crimes; you’re talking absolute nonsense. Have you even been to any of your counselling sessions?” “What a bitch,” Caiden commented. “Don’t let it get to you. You’re here to watch the show.” James folded his arms. “Don’t talk to my granddaughter like that. She isn’t talking nonsense. In fact, she is the only level headed person here.” Beryl stamped her high heel into the floor of the hallway. Clara didn’t flinch and neither did James. “What happened yesterday? You weren’t treating me like this in the morning.” “I was just a rich idiot yesterday morning,” James said. “I was enlightened later in the day. Did you enjoy stringing me along the entire time? I know you had a boyfriend whilst you were dating me. You went to the Savoy with him.” Clara watched him hold out the photos she had provided him. Beryl’s hands started to shake uncontrollably. “It’s a lie, th

Chapter 23
Clara was proud of being able to finally do something against a bully. She now felt the benefit of being in a new body. She would never have been able to achieve a victory like this in her old body. Imagining the four bullies being dragged off by the police instead of Beryl caused her to smile widely. She had achieved revenge against one person. She also felt more at peace with occupying Clarissa’s body now she had got rid of the tyrant who had made Clarissa’s life hell. “I’m glad to hear that you are truly satisfied with your revenge,” Caiden said and sat down next to her. “You can relax now. You won’t have any adversaries for a while.” Clara knew he wouldn’t give her any more details about the future. He was always stingy about things like that and she understood his reasoning, but that didn’t mean she had to like it. She thought about all the school work that had piled up whilst she had been obsessing over her revenge against Beryl and winced. Getting rid of Beryl didn't m

Chapter 24
Clara was glad Caiden wasn’t with her. He had warned her about Arthur’s feelings for her before. Arthur’s romantic feelings towards her hadn’t been hard to notice. She had just elected to not comment on them to avoid making things tense between them. Now he had put his feelings out into the open. She knew she had to honour his confession with an honest reply. Did she like him as more than a friend? Arthur had never made her heart flutter. She really couldn’t muster any feelings of love towards him. He was good looking and very kind to her, but she didn’t love him. “Arthur,” she said and paused. “I don’t feel the same way as you.” The hacker smiled gently and she saw a flicker of disappointment pass over his face. She felt a stab of guilt that she couldn’t make him happy by returning his feelings. “I know you don’t,” he replied. “You’re easy to read. You don’t show any signs of love for anyone. I knew you don’t feel the same way. I just wanted to let my feelings out now

University was more difficult than she had predicted. Revenge was now the least of her problems. It turned out that getting accepted into one of England’s most prestigious universities was the easy part. She had to socialise, keep up with the university work and traditions. Clara stepped onto the grass outside the main university building intending to take a shortcut to her next lecture and every student in the vicinity turned to stare at her. She could tell from the look on their faces that she had done something wrong. “No walking on the grass,” someone called out. "It's a tradition." Clara hastily walked back onto the path and rushed to her next lecture with a red face. “How was I supposed to know that I wasn’t supposed to step onto the grass in that area?” she complained quietly to Caiden. “There was a nice clear sign telling you not to,” Caiden reminded her. Clara pulled a face. There were so many traps to fall into when going to a very old university that was full of

Chapter 26
Caiden knew he had gone too far with his words when he saw the confusion on Clara’s face. Clara did not enjoy having conversations about her lack of desire for love. The subject had been closed between them when he had first asked about it several months ago. He was just too annoyed with her secret admirer leaving her a Valentine’s present to think before he spoke. “I think I’ve made my stance clear on many previous occasions. I only have this second chance at life for revenge,” Clara said quietly. Caiden chose an easy way out of the situation he had created. “I’m being summoned to the demon realm,” he said. “I’ll come back later.” He phased out the human world and back to his own realm. The demon world was very dark when compared to the human world. There was no sun, only endless night and fire. The gloomy atmosphere was good for brooding. Over the past three weeks he had realised something that had disquieted him. He umistakenably had romantic feelings for Clara. Now he knew

“You’re lying,” Clara said. “I won’t ask why.” The shocked look on Caiden’s face confirmed her suspicion that he had lied about her future. “I really can’t tell you the full details,” he admitted and looked at the floor. “There’s a good reason.” It was likely for the best that she didn’t know the exact details of the events that occured at the end of her second life. She died and that was the end. There was no need to worry about the specifics. “I can tell that. Let’s change the subject,” she said. “Were you listening better than I did during the last Art History lecture?” She turned back to her laptop to work on her essay and Caiden moved to be at her side. Their conversation became about art and Caiden acted normally again. *** The months flicked by and Clara concentrated on passing her exams. Caiden seriously responded her joking request to whisper the right answers to her in knowledge-based exams. Clara was bemused to realise that he would actually help her cheat in e

The plane landed and Clara stumbled off the plane with stiff legs and tired eyes. She had been too tense to sleep on the long journey and now she was paying the price. “You look like you’re ready to sleep,” her best friend Meredith commented. “You can sleep on the coach.” Clara nodded sleepily and when the coach arrived, she followed Meredith on and fell asleep soon after sitting down. A range of people appeared in her dreams. Their faces were oddly clear this time. When she had dreamt of the people she hated before, their faces were faint and hard to make out. This time she was sure of the people who appeared in her dream. There were the four bullies, Xavier, Ryan and a lot of random Trinity Academy students and teachers. There were so many people who had contributed to her early death, but she considered some to have more culpability than others. Who was she going to encounter this time? *** Clara woke up with difficulty in her hotel bed. She was feeling the effects of jet l

Chapter 29
Xavier was on her list of revenge targets because he had broken her heart on the day she had died. She considered him to be culpable for her death. Clara froze up for a long moment and then another powerful gust of wind reminded her of the situation she was in. She was in a new body and she was out for revenge. She couldn’t just stare back at him silently. “I think this was all of the sketches I saw,” Xavier said with a smile. Clara tucked the sketches back into her sketchbook and clutched it tight to her chest so they wouldn’t fall out again. Now she had to work out what to say to Xavier. Caiden was silently watching nearby so she could only guess that events were currently going smoothly. “...Thank you for your help. I will get going now.” “Did you draw those sketches?” Xavier asked. Clara looked at him sharply. Things were slotting into place. Xavier had a distant look in his eyes. Caiden had told her to adopt her older style of sketching and her natural hair colour. Xavier h

Chapter 30
Clara clung to Caiden whilst she quietly cried. Caiden responded by hugging her tighter. Eventually her tears stopped and she wanted to wipe her face. Caiden was one step ahead of her and wiped her wet face with a black silk handkerchief she hadn’t seen before. “Was that a gift from the demon king?” she asked. “It was,” Caiden said and put it back in his pocket. “He really likes me. I can’t work out why, I’m the worst performing demon.” “Is it because of me?” Clara asked with more tears threatening to fall. “No,” Caiden said immediately. “Apparently I’m too nice to be a good demon.” Hearing Caiden’s problem distracted Clara completely from her dilemma. She couldn’t believe that Caiden wasn’t considered to be a decent demon because he was too nice. It was true that he was nice, but she didn’t personally think that was a problem. “What do they think you should do instead?” she questioned. “Scare me so I can’t sleep?” “Apparently, I should get you to track down and kill your
