Chapter 21

James looked at her with a steady gaze. Clara kept eye contact with him so he knew that she was being completely serious.

“I see you’ve come here with a lot of conviction,” he said after a moment. “I will respect that and will not interrupt you.”

Clara nodded and started off her speech. “Beryl is coming here now to ask you to save her failing company.”

James looked sceptical and Clara kept going. She wasn’t going to stop for anything.

“There’s a number of reasons to not give her money. Firstly, she’s been cheating on you the entire time.”

Clara opened the folder on the table and took out the photos from the hotel and printouts of Beryl’s texts to her real boyfriend. Clara had selected the texts that were the best evidence of their relationship and showed Beryl’s true reasons for being involved with James.

James looked over the photos without much expression on his face. Clara didn’t know what direction his thoughts were going in. If he suspected the evidence was photoshopped
