Bike rides and MemoriesCHAPTER FORTY-SEVENKai's POVThirty minutes. That's how long my thumb had hesitated over my phone screen just before I could hit send. Not forgetting that I had stared at her contact name for a solid ten minutes before giving in and typing that the message. But it had also taken an extra ten minutes of rewriting and deleting this message. Finally, I decided on something. "Hey. There’s a new bike racing station just opened outside town. Thought maybe… you’d want to check it out? Just us. Have a fun bike ride just like the old times. "The moment the message was sent, I regretted it. Not because I didn’t want to see her, which would obviously never happened. I wanted to see her, I wasn’t sure she wanted to see me. Not really. Two years of silence had sprouted from my foolish mistakes and now the both of had grown apart, the two different people and I wasn't sure if I would even be completely successful in rekindling our relationship. I doubt it would return

Merry SleepoverCHAPTER FORTY-NINEAlexa’s POV"What do you mean you've got a job? "I pressed my phone closer to my ear, waved goodbye to Janice and Simon as I clocked out for my break. Stacey’s timing was freakishly perfect—like a sixth sense that told her when I had five minutes to breathe. Thankfully, it always worked for me. “Hey, girl,” I answered, balancing the phone between my cheek and shoulder while slipping behind the small break room counter.“Okay, what is this I hear about you working?” Stacey’s voice came through sharp and amused. “Did aliens replace you with a responsible clone? Because I swear the Alexa I know still lives off iced coffee and spontaneous chaos.”I rolled my eyes, laughing. “First of all, rude. Second, I am perfectly capable of being employed. And third… yes, I’m at work. Like, real work.”“No way. You’re serious?”“Dead serious. I’ve got a schedule, a uniform. Well, sort of, and a boss who expects me to not be late. But she's exceptionally nice. I rea

Meeting family-pt2CHAPTER FIFTY-ONEDevon's POVFrom the moment I said yes, I realized that I had made a really huge mistake. The kitchen was brighter than I remembered it. Maybe it was the coldness in the air, or the silence that screamed louder than words. Mom had outdone herself. Fresh fruit, scrambled eggs, sausage, pancakes stacked high, like this was some family sitcom. But the look on her face? Far from warm. Dad sat stiffly, newspaper spread out but unread, pretending he hadn’t just stiffened the second I walked in.Alexa’s hand slipped into mine. Was it to comfort herself or me instead? I didn't know. Nevertheless,I held on tightly.“Good morning,” I offered the moment we were seated, my voice a bit hoarse.Nothing. Not even a nod from Dad. Mom’s lip twitched, but her eyes never met mine. She just kept pouring coffee like I wasn’t there.Alexa gave them both a kind smile. “Thank you for having me. This looks amazing.”They didn't even bother trying to acknowledge her. Her

StalkerCHAPTER FIFTY-TWOAlexa’s POVIt had been a tiring day, and there was a lot I had learned from Evelyn today. For the first time ever, I had experimented with hair day, and although messy, there was so much I had learned. I, however was preparing for closing time, and with broom in hand, I swept away the tidbits of hair in the shop. As soon as I put away the broom away, I heard a ping from my phone. I picked it up from the pocket on my apron. A frown creased my brow. Not again. This was the old number that I had believed I had blocked. But somehow, they always managed to contact me. I had received yet another message, the conversation starting like this stranger and I were casual and close friends.“Cute outfit today. Green suits you. :)”I paused, frozen mid-step in the back room of the salon. My thumb hovered over the screen, heart skipping a beat. I hadn’t posted anything on social media today, not a single story, not even a picture. Yet whoever it was… they knew what I

KidnappedCHAPTER FIFTY FOURAlexa’s POVThis morning was supposed to be normal, but I guess after finding out that I was being stalked, I should have known it wouldn't be normal for a while. The sun barely filtered through the blinds, casting slanted golden streaks across my bedroom floor. My hair was tied in a bun, and I had finished putting on my perfume. I was halfway through tying my apron, my workbag slung over one shoulder, phone in hand, when the doorbell rang.At first, I ignored it. No one ever came by this early. Ever. But then it rang again. And again. Fast. Panicked. As if the person wouldn't stop ringing until I opened the door. I froze. My heart gave a nervous lurch. Ever since the creepy messages had started, the photos, the address, the whispers that someone was watching me, I hadn’t been able to sleep properly. Even the most harmless sounds turned ominous. I didn't even feel safe in my own home.My senses were always on edge, wired for danger. I moved cautiously t
