GUILT LEADS TO REGRET
Chapter 30My worst enemy is my father. . . and my memory - Geoffrey.GEOFFREYI had taken an oath to destroy Eyare from receiving his birth right when I was but a young boy, shy of thirteen years.Did I want to do it?Let's be frank, I didn't have much of an option.I was living a seriously repressed life by the man who fathered me. He forced me to do it. He said I would understand when I became a man.Should he be blamed for it, yes, but I could have fought against the tide.I could have fought against the spiritual pull.I could have fought against the lure.I could have fought, instead, I succumbed. So it became my fault too.I forgot all about it when I left the town to school in the city.I was living the life, enjoying myself, finding a breath of fresh air away from my oppressive father. I became the very embodiment of what I didn't want to be --- irresponsible and carefree.I womanized and broke the fragile hearts of women, just for the fun of it. I didn't know my fate had alre

THE TRUTH SURFACES
Chapter 31When it comes right down to it - action speaks wayy louder than words!!OSAGIEDEWhen Geoffrey left, I stood there dully, staring at the door.Could what he said have been the truth?I missed Eyare so much, it physically hurt.I had decided to resign from my job because I needed time to sort out my family issues, but most importantly -- myself. I had taken too much leave time already, so that wasn't even an option.I still hadn't yet figured out what lay in store for both of us, if we were ever going to get past this hurdle. What Geoffrey said made me have a re - think. He and Eyare practically grew up like brothers and he knew Eyare's capabilities.Yes, but people changed, plus Eyare had been drinking a lot of alcohol of recent and I knew for sure that alcohol pushed men to do a lot of bad things.I was still lost in thought when I heard a knock on the door.I didn't feel like seeing anyone right now.I invited Geoffrey in because I wanted to know Eyare's whereabouts. A TERRIBLE FATE
Chapter 32It is true about the saying; Things have to go very bad, before they eventually get better!EYAREThe man who opened the gates of the palace for Imade and I, had identified himself as Monday. Imade had him taken to the police station where he was interrogated. He said Chief 'bazuaye had kidnapped my mother and taken her hostage, but he didn't know where.Where were all the policemen that guarded my mom at the palace?Monday had smiled an eerie smile then. "My oga sharp well well. Him bribe all the policemen, give them plenty money make them work for am." (My boss is a smart man, he bribed all the policemen with plenty money to work for him).I had reeled with anger at his statement. I couldn't help myself as my hand connected with his face in a series of slaps, over and over again. He became weak and lay flopped against the chair like a rag doll. After that, he requested for water and drank like a fish that that had gone out of water for a long while. He went ahead to paint

CONFUSED CHAOS
Chapter 33OSAGIEDEI slapped him so hard across the face, I saw large red welts appear. They looked angry.Yes. My anger! How could he think I would leave my husband and run away with him?"Now, get out, and don't ever come close to me again. I warn you, I will inform Eyare of your many indiscretions, you can be sure of that." My hand stung from where I slapped him. I cradled it to my chest. He looked crestfallen as he stood looking uncertainly at me for a bit, and then he nodded and shuffled out.Did he think I would change my mind?I was going to have a bath before this charade with Geoffrey, but I decided against it. I had to tell Eyare everything I ever had with him. Problem with that, is, I didn't know how Eyare would take it.Better he heard it from me than someone else.I sneaked a glance at Eseosa, she was still fast asleep. Thankfully, she'd slept throughout the whole altercation with Geoffrey. That was a real blessing.I left the room quickly in search of Eyare. He told me

A TURN AROUND
OSAGIEDEI was shocked to my bone marrow and my mouth hung open. I couldn't believe what he had just said.Eseosa was bawling like it was going out of fashion, yet I couldn't move. Beside me, Imade was equally shocked into silence, not a squeak could be heard from her. Geoffrey on the other hand, was staring at me with a steely look in his eyes. All forms of sadness ebbed away, replaced with a certain determination on his face.Suddenly there was an eerie silence and I realised Eseosa had stopped crying. This could only mean one thing --- she had seen something to distract her and that usually didn't end well. Last time that happened, the whole jar of cream I'd just bought, was dumped on the bed, smearing the clean sheets I had just put on the bed. I caught her just in the nick of time as she was about to dip some into her mouth. That's what happened when she was left alone without adult supervision.Adrenaline pushed me into action and Geoffrey's confession was momentarily forgotten

THE ESCAPE - I
Chapter 35 Gboyega Elsa and the kids travelled back to Canada and life couldn't have been more lonely. I sighed audibly as I looked at the writing before me. I had been staring at the same words for the past twenty minutes but nothing had registered in my head. My eyes had become blurry and my mind kept straying to Eyare. What had happened to him? Everytime I called his number, I kept getting a switched off message. I even went severally to his place, but had seen a locked gate on all occasions. That worried me! Things were quiet with Red.His family was at a safe house and his daughter was recuperating nicely. Things seemed too calm for my liking and this put me on the alert. It made me jumpy and nervous, so I decided to call him. "Boss! I was just about to call you." He sounded excited. "Spill the beans." His excitement was infectious. "I've got major info on what Mr. Eyare asked for. When can we see?" "Do you need to ask twice? Come on over to my office now." I pumped my f

A FINAL DECISION
Chapter 36OsagiedeI felt like a cornered rat as they both stared at me --- Rita and my daughter.Imade noticed the look on my face and immediately understood, but she didn't turn around. Instead, she smiled and nodded at me."Yes, of course you both are having an affair of sorts. That's because both Geoffrey and Eyare both grew up together and they're like brothers. That makes him somewhat of a brother in law to you." She smiled at me, sending a message with her eyes."Yes, yes that's true!" I replied, grateful for her ingenuous move, but in the same vein, annoyed at her audacity. Still, I played along."He's quite the charmer, though." She continued talking, as if to herself. "Eyare told me a bit about him. Little wonder chicks fall for him like a pack of cards." She looked me straight in the eyes and chuckled sarcastically. Her barb didn't fall short on me. I had a few up my sleeves too. Unlike her, I didn't have time to play around. I went straight for the jugular."Well now, from

THE ESCAPE - II
Chapter 37GBOYEGAI smelt it before I saw it.It gave off a fresh, tangy odour and the wind had picked up quite a lot. I was glad for that because my shirt had begun to stick to my body with sweat. When I looked at the map, I realised I should have come across it earlier. Was there another route that would have taken me there faster, perhaps? I wondered.I quickened my tired steps.Maybe the lake had dried up.I came across a crooked path littered with dead dry leaves and mossy grass.Moss?Don't they grow where water resides? I must be close.I quickened my steps towards it. Wherever it led me, I would follow.I closed my eyes against the glare of the sunlight as I had long ditched the dark glasses I was wearing. I was sweating too profusely to bother with it.Since my eyes were closed, I lost my footing and stumbled. I felt myself tumble down an incline and my back pack went flying. My body took a serious hit as I kept tumbling. I only prayed I didn't break any bones on the way dow

A WAY FORWARD
Chapter 38OsagiedeI took in the scene before me and I vowed that my heart skipped some precious beats. It left me holding unto the door post for aid.Eyare had a knife to Eseosa's neck and was mumbling unintelligible words. His hands were a tight clamp round her neck.Something seemed off.His eyes were open, but blank - unseeing, like he wasn't there at all mentally. His face had taken on a slack look, as if his muscles were no longer functioning. He didn't look like the man I knew, like the man I married.Spittle dribbled down his lips and his head lolled to one side.I was distinctly reminded of a zombie -- a mindless zombie. He shifted backwards and forwards on his feet, as if unsure of which direction to take.Eseosa was crying pathetically and I just stood helplessly, unsure of what to do. She looked anguished and confused. She sighted me and lifted a hand up, calling me for aid to help her.The life of my daughter flashed before me. Her birth, the news of the debilitating sick

A HAPPY REUNION
Chapter 39EyareI had been back home for a few days and I still avoided talking with Osagiede about her affair with Osaze.I knew it wasn't her fault, but that didn't mean it wasn't a sore subject for me.I had put it off for too long. I couldn't continue to do it for much longer. I would have to broach the subject soon. She had been jumpy and sad around me, even though I would occasionally catch her looking at me with a smile on her face.I noticed she also looked pale and sick. She had been retching every morning and I worried for her. When I asked what was wrong, she avoided my eyes, shook her head and replied in a quiet voice that she was fine.I suggested we go to the hospital, but she always turned it down. I hoped she wasn't coming down with some bacterial infection. If she continued this way, I would have no option but to force her to the hospital. She was talking to mother at the kitchen table and they were cooking up some delicacy. Just for me, they said. This was part one,
