Hazel's POV
“Great,” he mutters under his breath. Sitting back, he adjusts his posture to exude enough confidence for the both of us, spreading his legs and resting his hands on his thighs. He's not like any man I've ever had in my company, even though I had very little experience before Edwin. Edwin. I haven't even thought about him since... wow. I have to resist the urge to compare Logan's traits with his, along with his confidence, his intelligence and the kind of security he gives me, because maybe it's unfair to compare a common man to a demon. It takes every bit of effort to rip my eyes away from his body and focus on staying calm like he suggested. The two stop by our table, one of them saying, “Look who we have here.”“And with a pretty lady too,” the other one adds. I cringe inwardly. I may not have the audacity to compare a commom man to a demon just yet, but nothing is going to stop me from comparing these two losers with Logan. It's like he's built different. Because while I dev

Logan's POV
It begins to rain and when I glance at her, she’s fast asleep. None of them has ever asked to see my home before, which only confirms my thoughts about her. She’s an odd one, a little naive, and too curious for her own good.I park by the fountain, watching the rain pound on and on. I look over at her, wondering how she’s able to sleep through the growing storm. It’s barely evening time.It takes a while, but her eyelids peel open eventually. She blinks at me with squinted eyes before sitting up quickly and adjusting herself. Then she sighs. “Why didn’t you wake me up?”“I didn’t want to disturb you,” I reply. “Wait here. I’ll go inside and get you an umbrella.”She shakes her head, opening the door and jumping out of the car. I grab the items from the shop and step out just in time to see her react to the nature of my house. She’s frozen in the rain, cool drops hitting her delicate skin and leaving strands of her hair stuck to her face. She smiles, twirling around to take in the gar

“A call from Velvet Magazine, Miss. They want to know if you’ll still do the interview after hearing about recent events,” Linda says to me.I glance over at Logan who is seated on a couch in my study, flipping through their latest edition silently. “Remind me when this was scheduled for,” I reply.“Tomorrow at noon.”I lean back in my chair, resting my arms on the table. Velvet is the biggest publisher in the city and they will want to hear about everything that is going on at Ambrose Corp. from me just to clear out the rumors and predictions from the minor articles and publications online.“There’s one more thing,” Linda adds. “They’re bringing Shannon Ambrose in as well if she takes up the offer.”“What?” I scoff. “Are they trying to get us to rip each other apart?”Short answer, yes. I wonder what idiot is in charge of this. “Don’t respond and ignore them,” I say finally. She nods and leaves.“Either the writers are trying to ruin me completely or Shannon is cooking up another sc

I’m trying my best not to squint as the lights hit me and the camera starts rolling. Shannon sits stiffly beside me as the host scrolls through the questions and even though I feel I might crack under this pressure soon, my expression remains impassive.“Alright, let’s begin.”But the interviewer is cut off by the last person I thought I would see today.“Wait!”I glance around until my eyes land on Mr. Park, who has now crashed the interview. They stop instantly and I can hear a few gasps and whispers as he approaches us.He looks at me saying, “I need to have a word with you.”I’m just as surprised as everyone else, but they don’t need to know that.I stand, following him out as his entourage waits behind. “What a pleasant surprise,” I say sarcastically as soon as we’re alone. But he doesn’t say anything cocky or snarky. Instead he says, “You should take me seriously for once in your life. Don’t do the interview. It’s a bigger set-up than you think.”I frown. “What do you mean? Sh

Hazel's POV
It’s 5p.m when I decide to put on my trainers and go out for a jog. The ground outside is wet and the cool air smells fresh after all the heavy rainfall. I think of a time when I loved the rain, because my mother loved it too. She thought it was the most magical thing about nature. And when I adored nature, I adored myself as part of it. As nothing but divinely and beautifully feminine just like my mother. But I lost touch of it a few years after she died, and never had a magical experience until… well until Logan showed up. When I return home, it’s not dark, empty and silent like I subconsciously imagined it to be. Linda is relaxed on the barstool while Logan moves around the kitchen preparing dinner. It’s warm, and the smell of something delicious is wafting through the living room. I smile. “This never gets old,” I say as I join them.“You’re back,” Logan states. He’s wearing a black apron that says ‘no bitchin’ in ma kitchen’ which makes me giggle. I never found it funny when Li

I knew he would agree to meet with us. But now that he’s here, it’s much harder to actually speak to him than I thought. We’re in a small cafe not too far from where I live. It’s quite a sunny day, so more people are outside, but the cafe is quiet enough. “You have a lot of questions, don’t you?” He says. “Yes. But that’s not entirely why I asked to meet with you,” I reply. “Well. Before we start, you might want to listen to this,” he says, setting his phone down on the table. Logan and I glance at each other at the same time as the audio begins to play. “Shannon Ambrose in my office. To what do I owe this pleasant surprise,” Andy says to her in a quite patronizing tone. “Is it so surprising that I’m here? Don’t worry, I won’t be long.” I glance at Andy, whose staring at me, maybe trying to see how I react to this. “Okay. Why are you here?” Andy’s voice comes through the speakers of his phone again. “I’m here to warn you. Whatever connection you have with Hazel, end it.” “Excuse

Logan’s POV
She falls into a fit of rage as soon as she’s in the comfort of her home, grabbing the object nearest to her reach and smashing it to the floor. She straightens up and exhales. “I really liked that vase.”She rips off her coat as Linda rushes in to clean up the mess without asking any questions. And she trudges away to her study like a child throwing a tantrum and I follow silently behind her until she’s seated at her desk, pulling at her hair, and breathing heavily against the wooden surface. I roll my eyes, walking over to her and waiting at the other side of the desk for her to calm down. “I want to destroy them all,” she sighs. “I want them dead.”My lips tug into an involuntary smile. “Is that an order?”She looks up at me and frowns. “Of course not!”I roll my eyes again. “I can make him partner with you. All I need is your permission and ten minutes alone with him,” I say. She looks at me again. “Are you going to torture him? Compel him?” She as

Hazel's POV
This has to be the busiest two weeks of my life. But it’s all done. Logan has been doing so much research, and I’ve been doing so much work that we’ve barely said a word to each other all this time. It’s all worth it, though, because soon we’ll be strong enough to confront Shannon and begin to take back what’s rightfully mine.“Very good, Miss Ambrose,” he says after we’ve gone over everything once more. “You can rest now.”Oddly, hearing this from him is calming. He has kept me on my toes, making sure I remain determined and focused. He has also brought me food and snacks to my study as if he could sense it each time I was hungry. And he has carried me to bed repeatedly instead of letting me drool over my desk all night.I’ve never felt so cared for in my life. He hasn’t slept, though. Or had a proper meal. It must be because of me. Because I haven’t been able to take care of myself and he’s been doing that for me all while preparing to defend me in more ways

Hazel's POV
I’m sitting in the board room with my shades on because my eyes can’t handle all the brightness today has to offer. I mean, Shannon and I are about to have a showdown. What is the sun so happy about? I'm just cranky and hungover but still. I’m nervous, but not too nervous. I just need this to be done. Whether today is successful or not, I won’t give up.“Why don’t you ask your assistant to get us some coffee before we begin?” Shannon says glancing at Logan.“Get it yourself,” I reply. “Logan isn’t here as my assistant today. He’s here as my lawyer,” I explain. She scoffs. “You have a lawyer as your assistant?”I don’t respond. Instead, I wait for her to call on one of her people to get us the coffee. “If you haven’t already gone through the documents that my client sent to you, you should do so now,” Logan says. “I already did. And they all seem very legitimate. Didn’t know you had a talent for forgery,” she replies.“Yeah, keep going. Have a go at

Logan's POV
It’s 9pm. I’m waiting with a name card when she appears, smiling as soon as she spots me and dragging her luggage along. “Miss Reid?” I confirm when she stops in front of me. She smiles brightly. “That’s me.”“I’m Logan. I’ll be at your service for as long as you choose to stay. Feel free to let me know if there’s anything you need.”“Logan…” she repeats, as if trying to memorize it. “Right. Take this then,” she says giving me her suitcase. “It’s exhausting.”I take it. “Of course. Right this way, then.”“How long have you been working for Mr. Park?” she asks once we’re both seated in the car. “Not long.”“How long until we get to the hotel?” she asks after a moment of silence.“I’d say forty minutes, but I sense traffic ahead,” I reply. She reaches into her purse, pulling out a small mirror and checking her face.“I look exhausted.”She doesn’t. Her face looks several years younger than she actually is, suggesting a kind of innocen
