“Great,” he mutters under his breath. Sitting back, he adjusts his posture to exude enough confidence for the both of us, spreading his legs and resting his hands on his thighs. He's not like any man I've ever had in my company, even though I had very little experience before Edwin. Edwin. I haven't even thought about him since... wow. I have to resist the urge to compare Logan's traits with his, along with his confidence, his intelligence and the kind of security he gives me, because maybe it's unfair to compare a common man to a demon. It takes every bit of effort to rip my eyes away from his body and focus on staying calm like he suggested. The two stop by our table, one of them saying, “Look who we have here.”“And with a pretty lady too,” the other one adds. I cringe inwardly. I may not have the audacity to compare a commom man to a demon just yet, but nothing is going to stop me from comparing these two losers with Logan. It's like he's built different. Because while I dev

“A call from Velvet Magazine, Miss. They want to know if you’ll still do the interview after hearing about recent events,” Linda says to me.I glance over at Logan who is seated on a couch in my study, flipping through their latest edition silently. “Remind me when this was scheduled for,” I reply.“Tomorrow at noon.”I lean back in my chair, resting my arms on the table. Velvet is the biggest publisher in the city and they will want to hear about everything that is going on at Ambrose Corp. from me just to clear out the rumors and predictions from the minor articles and publications online.“There’s one more thing,” Linda adds. “They’re bringing Shannon Ambrose in as well if she takes up the offer.”“What?” I scoff. “Are they trying to get us to rip each other apart?”Short answer, yes. I wonder what idiot is in charge of this. “Don’t respond and ignore them,” I say finally. She nods and leaves.“Either the writers are trying to ruin me completely or Shannon is cooking up another sc

It’s 5p.m when I decide to put on my trainers and go out for a jog. The ground outside is wet and the cool air smells fresh after all the heavy rainfall. I think of a time when I loved the rain, because my mother loved it too. She thought it was the most magical thing about nature. And when I adored nature, I adored myself as part of it. As nothing but divinely and beautifully feminine just like my mother. But I lost touch of it a few years after she died, and never had a magical experience until… well until Logan showed up. When I return home, it’s not dark, empty and silent like I subconsciously imagined it to be. Linda is relaxed on the barstool while Logan moves around the kitchen preparing dinner. It’s warm, and the smell of something delicious is wafting through the living room. I smile. “This never gets old,” I say as I join them.“You’re back,” Logan states. He’s wearing a black apron that says ‘no bitchin’ in ma kitchen’ which makes me giggle. I never found it funny when Li

She falls into a fit of rage as soon as she’s in the comfort of her home, grabbing the object nearest to her reach and smashing it to the floor. She straightens up and exhales. “I really liked that vase.”She rips off her coat as Linda rushes in to clean up the mess without asking any questions. And she trudges away to her study like a child throwing a tantrum and I follow silently behind her until she’s seated at her desk, pulling at her hair, and breathing heavily against the wooden surface. I roll my eyes, walking over to her and waiting at the other side of the desk for her to calm down. “I want to destroy them all,” she sighs. “I want them dead.”My lips tug into an involuntary smile. “Is that an order?”She looks up at me and frowns. “Of course not!”I roll my eyes again. “I can make him partner with you. All I need is your permission and ten minutes alone with him,” I say. She looks at me again. “Are you going to torture him? Compel him?” She as

I’m sitting in the board room with my shades on because my eyes can’t handle all the brightness today has to offer. I mean, Shannon and I are about to have a showdown. What is the sun so happy about? I'm just cranky and hungover but still. I’m nervous, but not too nervous. I just need this to be done. Whether today is successful or not, I won’t give up.“Why don’t you ask your assistant to get us some coffee before we begin?” Shannon says glancing at Logan.“Get it yourself,” I reply. “Logan isn’t here as my assistant today. He’s here as my lawyer,” I explain. She scoffs. “You have a lawyer as your assistant?”I don’t respond. Instead, I wait for her to call on one of her people to get us the coffee. “If you haven’t already gone through the documents that my client sent to you, you should do so now,” Logan says. “I already did. And they all seem very legitimate. Didn’t know you had a talent for forgery,” she replies.“Yeah, keep going. Have a go at
