*Chapter Thirty-one*
Wyatt Wyatt had another bottle of Cabernet in his hand. When he turned the corner into the living room, he saw Lily seated on his overstuffed leather couch. Her bare feet were up on the coffee table. She had her glass of wine in one hand and she was taking a sip from it when he walked in. There was soft music playing. It had a nice rhythm to it, but no words. Wyatt didn't recognize it. “Who is this that's playing?” he asked, taking a seat next to Lily. “It's a band called 'Wild Roots',” she said. “They're brand new. I like them, though. It's great music to dance to.” “You dance?” Wyatt asked. Lily nodded. “Yes. I love dancing. I haven't gone out to dance in a long time, though.” “Why not?” “Nobody to go with,” she said. “I mean I have a few girlfriends who will go out with me, but they like to go to clubs that play hip hop music. That's not really the kind of dancing I like.” Wyatt was no stranger to dancing. When Caroline was alive, she had talked him into taking numerous da

Chapter Thirty-two
Lily Lily woke up early the next morning to the sound of birds at her window. When she opened her eyes, she squinted against the sunshine that poured across her face. It's late, she thought. I must have slept in. It was nearly eight in the morning, much later than she'd been sleeping lately. She had been up late, though. After making out with Wyatt and nearly having sex with him, he was all that she could think about. He was in every one of her dreams and on her mind. She had tossed and turned all night. Finally, though, at around three in the morning, she had managed to fall asleep. What a weird night, she thought to herself, kicking the covers off. She stretched her hands over her head and yawned, then walked to the closet to find something to wear. She decided on a pair of jeans and a dark blue blouse. Normally, she would have showered in the morning, but figured since she would be headed home in the next hour or so that she might as well do it there. “I guess I should pack,”

Chapter Thirty-three
Lily Lily pulled her car into the parking lot and glanced out the cracked front windshield at her apartment building. It was the place she had called home for many months, but it suddenly seemed foreign to her. She grabbed her bags and headed up to the fourth floor. As soon as she stepped out of the elevator, she was greeted by the overpowering smell of burned garlic and curry. Welp, she thought. Guess I'm home now. She walked down the hall and the wheels of her suitcase squeaked as she pulled it along the tile. When she got to apartment 403, she stopped and sighed. There were three envelopes stuffed into the crack of the door, just above the handle. She recognized them immediately, because it wasn't the first time she'd gotten a notice from her landlord. At least I made good money last week, she thought, pulling the envelopes out of the door jam and stuffing them into her purse. I'll be able to catch up on my rent payment finally. Maybe that will get the landlord off of my back,

Chapter Thirty-four
Wyatt Not more than ten minutes after Lily left with her bags, Wyatt heard the doorbell ring. He was downstairs, playing in the basement with Maggie. His eyes widened and he smiled. Did Lily forget something here? He wondered. Maybe I'll get to see her again. Since the moment she'd walked out his front door, his heart had been aching. It had only been about ten minutes, but he legitimately missed her. His house felt empty now that she was gone. “I'll be right back, okay?” he asked Maggie, who was too focused on her coloring book to even look up. “Okay,” she said, still coloring away. Wyatt stood up from the floor and jogged upstairs. He went straight to the front door and pulled it open. “Couldn't stay away, huh?” he asked, before even looking to see who was on the other side. “Did you miss us that much?” Once the door was open, he was greeted by someone, but it was most certainly not Lily. Standing in the doorway was Mildred. Her gray hair was tied back into a pony tail and h

Chapter Thirty-five
Wyatt Wyatt knew what he had to do. For the first time in months, he had a clear direction. There wasn't a gray area. It was black and white. I need to call Lily, he thought. He went to the sink and splashed cold water on his face, washing the tears away. He drew in a long breath and exhaled slowly. “It's time I make a move,” he whispered. A real move, though, he thought. Not this half-assed shit I've been doing lately. I'm going to call Lily and ask her on a date. An honest to god, legitimate date. Something she deserves, like a nice restaurant and the chance to get fixed up and go out. With newfound energy, Wyatt pushed away from the bathroom counter and headed back to his bedroom. He immediately grabbed his cell phone from the night stand and unlocked the screen. His confidence waned a little bit as he scrolled through the contact list to find Lily's name, but he refused to succumb to it. This was something he wanted to do and Wyatt wasn't the type to back down from what he w

Chapter Thirty-six
Lily Lily pulled her rickety old car down the narrow one-way street downtown. It was Friday morning and she'd called in sick at her coffee shop job, just so that she could go to La Dress and buy an outfit for her date with Wyatt that night. She knew exactly where to go. She'd walked by the shop a hundred times, but had only ever glanced in the window to gawk at the dresses they had displayed. The price tags started in the thousand dollar range, meaning she never ever considered actually walking into the store. I can't believe Wyatt is buying me a dress, she thought. She knew that he had more than enough money to afford it, but the gift was very much appreciated. After parking her car, she headed toward the shop. In an attempt to not look completely out of place in the expensive boutique, she'd dressed up the best she could. She had on a skirt suit that she normally saved for job interviews, but figured it would at least make her look like she could afford to be in the store. As s

Chapter Thirty-seven
Lily Her new dress lay on her bed, wrapped in plastic but still stunningly beautiful. Bonnie had been kind enough to hem the bottom of it right away, knowing that Lily needed it for her date that night. Lily glanced at the clock on top of her night stand and her eyes widened. She'd completely lost track of time. “Shit,” she whispered. “He'll be here soon.” It was already a quarter to seven, which meant that Wyatt would be at her apartment to pick her up in fifteen minutes. Luckily, she had already showered, but she still needed to straighten her hair and do her makeup. It's a good thing this isn't the first time I've had to rush to get ready, she thought. She dropped the towel that had been wrapped around her body. Naked, she walked over to her dresser and pulled out several different pairs of panties. After a few moments of consideration, she ended up picking the blue ones with the lacy top and the see-through front. They were sexy as hell. She'd never worn them before, but fig

Chapter Thirty-eight
Lily Lily sat across from Wyatt at the table. They were seated at the very back of the restaurant, right next to the floor-to-ceiling windows, giving them the perfect view of the sunset as it dropped below the horizon. The sky was dark orange, and the ocean reflected color of the sky. “It's so pretty,” Lily said, with a sigh as she gazed at the view. “So beautiful,” Wyatt agreed. After a moment, she glanced back across the table to find that Wyatt wasn't even looking at the ocean at all. He was sitting there, gently gazing back at Lily. She bit her bottom lip and pushed a strand of hair over her ear. “Thank you for taking me here,” she said. “You're very welcome.” Wyatt placed his elbows on the table and leaned forward a bit. “Thank you for coming with me.” The waiter walked up to the table. He looked to be in his forties, but was clean shaven and had his hair slicked back. He was dressed in a three-piece suit and carried with him a bottle of champagne. “Are you two ready to o

Lily Lily had Wyatt ate their fill of sushi. They sat back in their chairs, finishing off yet another glass of champagne. “You weren't joking,” she said, sighing with contentment. “That was the best sushi I've ever had.” “Wasn't it amazing?” Wyatt asked. “It's so fresh. I'd keep on eating, except that I don't think I could fit another bite of sushi in my stomach.” “Me either.” Lily gently patted her stomach. “Although, there were some pretty good desserts on the menu. There is a small chance that I might just able to fit some dessert in.” His eyes lit up. “You know what, I think I could make that happen, too. What did you see on the dessert menu that caught your eye?” “They have green tea ice cream,” she said. “Have you ever tried it before?” Wyatt shook his head. “No, I haven't. But, something about green tea and ice cream sounds like a strange combination.” “It's amazing,” she promised. “If we order some, will you try it?” “Of course,” he replied. “I'll try anything once.”

Chapter Forty
Lily Lily couldn't remember the last time she was this turned on. She was already shaking with desire as she walked past the restaurant host, with Wyatt following closely behind. She held his hand, leading the way out the door. She walked quickly, with an urgency in her step that had come from pure want. Oh, my God, she thought to herself. I've been wanting this so bad for the past week. It's a good thing he doesn't live far from here. “Hold up one second,” Wyatt said, chuckling as he struggled to keep up. Lily stopped and turned around. She gave him a once over. Her eyes went from his gorgeous face, then dropped all the way down his suit-clad body. Even though it was obviously an expensive suit, all she really wanted to do to it was rip it off of him. “Let me just send Don a quick text to let him know we're ready.” Wyatt pulled his cell phone out of the front pocket of his slacks and began typing on it. Meanwhile, Lily placed her hands over the top of his shoulders. “Hurry,” sh
