Prologue

‘Jackson, we have a situation.’ Aiden mind-link his alpha.‘What’s going on, you need back-up?’ Jackson mind-linked back.‘I don’t know, we got a human girl on our territory. She doesn’t look like a hiker, but she keeps going deeper into our territory. What should I do?’ Aiden says as he keeps his eyes on the girl. The human didn’t look like she was a hiker, she had on a black crop shirt cover with a long sleeve white shirt, that was paired with a short jean and some boots. She also only had a small leather backpack. The girl had long brown hair and soft blue eyes. She seemed so tiny in the massive woods. Her button nose went well with her round face. But nothing about her appearance made Aiden think that she had planned or had experience hiking before.‘For now, just keep an eye on her. She probably just got bored and wanted to walk around. Just make sure she doesn’t get to close to the main pack house and that she leaves the territory safely. The last thing the pack needs are a bunc

Chapter Two

“What’s going on, William.” Nathaniel called out to his son as they all ran to the boarder.“Layla, she is here. I could read her mind.” William said. As they all continue to speed through the woods.“Something is wrong with her, she is in pain, we need to get to her now.” William said. The entire family were worried for Layla’s safety.“Where is she?” Grace spoke.“She is at the borders crossing of our territory.” William Spoke.“Brea and William you go to where Brea heard the scream come from. Grace and I will go to the south side of the border line and see if anyone is there. Nicholas and Eric, you search the north side of the territory. If anyone sees any sign of Layla, we call out to one other. All of you understand?” Nathaniel asked. All of them nodded their heads. Even though none of the vampires were really related they felt and acted like a family, and Nathaniel clearly suited the fatherly figure in their family. Everyone nodded to his plan, before they all broke apart and st

Chapter Three

Layla’s entire body was stiff and sore, and her head was filled with the beat of her heart. Layla stirred and tried to sit up, but two hands pushed her back down. She tried to push the hands away and tried to sit up again, but it was no use. Soft cold hands stroked her forehead gently.“Your okay, Layla. Your safe.” A voice softly spoke in her ear. She couldn’t make out the voice, but she trusted his words. Layla stopped fighting the person and fell back into the darkness. When Layla woke up again, her muscles were finally relaxed, and her body was in a lot less pain. She ran her hands over a soft material, a familiar material. She opened her eyes and looked at the soft white cotton bunched up in her fingers. She slowly sat up to stare out of a glass wall that showed the comforting landscape of the woods and the walls in the room were filled with pictures and paintings of her memories. She was in her room. Her really room. Excitement filled her entire being. She throwed the covers ov

“Just please tell me the truth. You guys are scaring me. Why is the wolf here?” Layla said as she sat down after the rest of her family did the same. Nathaniel sat next to Layla as she continued to pick at the skin on her finger joints, a nervous habit she has had since she was a child.“We know there was an accident and that Aiden bite you.” Nathaniel said, but it still left Layla with a little answer.“Okay…” Layla said nervously for the rest of the story that would follow.“It has been pack-law for centuries now, that no wolf may bite a human, a specially a woman.” Nathaniel said. Layla’s heartbeat picked up at the look on Nathaniel’s face. It was clear he didn’t want to say the rest.“The reasoning behind this law was because wolves who bit woman would only cause two certain outcomes. Either the woman would change into a wolf, or she would die in the process and even if she did happen to shift her mental state would deteriorate as time passed.” Nathaniel said. Layla frowned at his

William was the first to inspect her wound. The silence was the only thing that filled the room. William ran his thumb over the red mark. The confusion and shock clear on his face. He turned Layla around and inspected Layla herself. She looked the same as she always did, her heartbeat to the same rhythm that it always had, and the intake of breath followed with the out take of it. She seemed exactly like the girl he has always known.“How did this happen?” William asked as he rolled up Layla’s shirt and pulled it over her arms and then over her head. Layla pulled the shirt down over her black sports bra. Their interaction seemed natural and common, like a married couple that followed the same routine every day.“I walked home from the art studio after I finished my day. When I came home, the lights weren’t working, so I sat all my things down to go back outside to check the power box, but someone grabbed me from behind. Everything happened so fast. He pushed me against the wall and b

“You be safe, okay honey?” Grace told her daughter and placed Layla’s hair behind her ear. Layla gave her a smile and nodded.“I’ll miss you guys.” Layla said as she hugged her mom and dad once more. Nathaniel, place a kiss on top of her head and rubbed her back lovingly.“Will miss you too. Just make sure you come home, safe, and healthy. That’s all we care about.” Nathaniel said. Layla moved from her parents to her brothers.“Do you think Brea is coming?” Layla asked as she leaned into Eric’s hug.“You know how she feels about the wolves being here. Don’t take it personally.” Nicholas said. Layla knew what he said was true, but she just really missed her sister.“Don’t get into any trouble while I’m gone.” Layla jokingly said to Eric and an evil smile formed on his lips.“You know just as well as me, that I can’t promise that.” Eric joked back.“I’ll try to keep the reins on him.” Nicholas said. Eric clicked his tong and moved behind his boyfriend. He placed his arms around Nicholas

Layla didn’t know what to expect for the wolves’ pack house, but once she saw it, it was different from what she would have imagine. The house was quite large and had the structure and feel of a cabin. It felt homier than Layla was expecting. Layla followed the others into the house and the inside followed with the theme of a homey cabin. It was very spacious and was two stories high.“I’ll show you too your room.” Aiden said. Layla simply nodded as she still took everything in. She followed Aiden as they walked through a dining room and then up the stairs. He led her to the last room on the second floor. He opened the door for her and then placed her bag on her bed. The room was clearly prepared for a guest. It had two huge windows on the far side wall that overlooked the woods and the bed looked comfy and neat with white covers over it. The room had its own bathroom and a desk as well.“You can get comfortable and pack away your things, then I’ll come get you later for dinner.” Aide

Chapter Eight

Layla ran into the woods as fast as she could, while trying to leave as little tracks behind and being as quite as possible. She hugged herself as close to the tree as she could and tried to stay as quite as she could. Layla kept her ears sharp trying to hear anything, leaves crunching, a gush of wind, anything at all. A few seconds had pass and nothing happened. Layla slowly pushed herself off the tree and turned around. The woods were empty, and the coast was clear. Layla turned around and screamed as William appeared out of nowhere.“Ahh! You said you wouldn’t use any of your vampire skills.” Layla yelled and slammed his arm, knowing it did nothing to him, but it made her feel better. William laughed at her.“I didn’t have to use any abilities; you were just that easy to find.” William teased Layla.“Liar.” Layla joked and then suddenly ran away. William used his speed and stopped in front of her.“Now I used my abilities.” William said with a smile. Layla grinned at him.“I’ll sti

Layla groaned as she pushed herself off the hard floor, she had accidental fallen asleep on. She looked around the room for her phone that was ringing. The light of her phone shined on her night table. She pulled herself up and moved slowly to the phone as her body was aching. She lifted the phone and answered the phone without even checking to see who called.“Hello.” Layla said with sleep still heavy in her voice.“Did I fake you?” Williams asked. A faint smile formed on Layla’s lips, she laid back on her bed and pulled the covers over her. She placed her phone next to her and place William on speaker.“Mmm.” Layla simple answered.“Did you have a late night? Why are you still asleep this late in the morning?” William asked, a bit of worry seeping out of his voice. Before Layla could answer another voice spoke.“Layla don’t tell me you have already party with the wolves? Are you sleeping off your hangover?” Eric’s said jokingly. Layla couldn’t help but let out a small laugh at the r

Chapter 10

Layla and Aiden had spent most of the day together. He had help her bandage her burn wound and then after he showed her a bit more of their territory. At first it was a bit awkward between them, but the more they spoke to one another the less awkward it became. Aiden had learned that layla was a very sweet and kind of shy person with a bit of a dry humor, but he liked it and layla learned that Aiden seemed intimidating and cold, but he had a soft spot for everyone he loved, he also seemed a lot gentler than his exterior made him come forth. Layla hadn’t seen any of the other wolves through out the entire day, but she think Aiden had asked them to back off for today. She also only had dinner with Aiden at the end of the day. It was actual quit a nice day all in all.Layla sat in front of her new sketch pad and finished with the last details of her new drawing. She knew it was late and that she be trying to sleep, but she had a bigger urge to finish her current drawing. She buffed out t
