The maid or servant unlocked the glass and brought out the diamond. Archer took it from her and turned to face Clarissa whose face was red as the whole of the partygoers were looking at her in amazement.“Do I have the honor of wearing this on you,” he asked softly. She swallowed. “Yes.”He maneuvered around, and slowly, she lifted her hair. His fingers brushed her neck ever so slightly, shooting waves of pleasure through her. She didn’t understand what was going on. “Done,” he said suddenly. His fingers leaving her neck made her feel so empty. She wanted him to touch her even more.“Thank you.”He smiled. “You’re beautiful, and it’s beautiful.”She blushed red. Without a word, he grabbed her hand and led her out of the party and towards their car.Unknown to them, Zachary’s men were at the party and knew what was going on. “I think they are bandits. Oh, my goodness! Do you think they found out about the diamond, and want to take it?” She asked in shock. As soon as the thought crossed her mind, she removed the necklace immediately and placed it in Archer’s hands. He looked at her then. He was about to say something, but his eyes diverted again. The lights from the other car were down, but Clarissa could clearly see four men move toward them. They were holding guns. Then, as they advanced, she saw another man come down from the car.The first four took their position in front of Archer’s car, and then, the other man moved through their midst.Zachary?Clarissa couldn’t believe that her brother was standing right in front of them with guns cocked. “What the fuck!” He said in front. And, almost at once, he turned everywhere, cocking the gun everywhere and looking for who to kill. And, when they thought that things wouldn’t get creepier. A howl sounded, then another in quick succession. The night seemed to have taken a drastic turn. Clarissa knew it was Archer. This night was the longest night of her life, but somehow she liked it was happening this way.She needed Zachary to get out of her life for good, and maybe this would be a way for it to happen. “Come out sore loser!” Zachary screamed for the hundredth time into the cold.He jerked Clarissa forward till he was standing so close to his vehicle. The only surviving man stood with his gun raised. Clarissa thought the man was an idiot. He was risking his life for someone as morally deprived as her brother.“I said come out!” Zachary screamed once more.Clarissa panted. “Just let me go, Zachary. This isn’t right. You know it. Do the right thing,” she pleaded and earned a smack across the cheeks.“Which part do you not get? I told you to shut up. If I hear one more word from you, then you will wish we weren’t related to each other,” Zachary snapped angrily.Clarissa swallowed hard. The blood in her mouth was bobbling at this time. She wanted nothing more, but to spit it out. But, she couldn’t do even that, for fear. If she made one wrong move, there was no telling what Zachary would do. It was better to be safe than sorry.“I said come out! You dumb fucks, step out of the shadows!”

Clarissa stared in horror as Zachary tossed the necklace up like it were a game of throws. She had no idea what this man was going to do to her, and that scared her so much. “Boss,” someone said behind her.Clarissa jumped in shock and turned back to look at two men in black. They had been hiding in the car since? But, how? Didn’t they feel the need to rescue their partners?Nothing was making sense at all.“What are you thinking, little butterfly?” One of them asked. Before she could respond, she was grabbed roughly from her seat and pulled toward the back of the car.“Let go of me,” she cried. They held her down. “It’s not our duty to fight those bastards. We don’t fight, we sell young girls like you to the market,” they explained softly.Clarissa looked from one to the other in horror. She turned back to her brother, who was still playing with the necklace.“What do they mean by that?” She screamed at him.He shrugged. “Don’t shout. What did you expect? Those bastards you have han

Clarissa sighed in frustration. She wanted to live. She wanted to see Archer for one last time. The urge was intense. It snuffed her senses and made her restless. She tried to move, but at the same time, Zachary turned his face toward her. She could see the cuts on his forehead, which made her gag. It was almost like a deep gash. But, what frightened her the most was that she was trapped, and he wasn’t about to let her go so easily. She tried harder to get herself free but failed.“Stop trying. You’re hurt. I will get us out of here,” he said softly. She shook her head fiercely, causing her head to spin so hard. “You won’t do that. I won’t let you get to me, because this is all your fault. What was the need to do all these?” She cried.Zachary grunted as he tried to bring his legs out from the under-seat, but he was trapped. He couldn’t move an inch. Clarissa could hear his heartbeat surprisingly. She knew then, that he was afraid, but she didn’t care. She only wished she could get o

Archer watched as Clarissa fainted. He growled in the night in rage and anger. All he wanted was to keep her safe, and not harm her. He wanted her in the best condition ever. “Take care of her,” he mind-linked Sam as he looked towards the road. “Yes, Alpha,” Sam bowed his head to the ground.Archer moved quickly, only to hear a scream. He was torn between going after Zachary and staying closer to Clarissa. He turned his head slightly behind and noted that she was trying to free herself from Sam. Her scream was so hysterical that it tugged at his heart.“Let her go,” he mind-linked almost at once.Sam placed her on the cold earth using his mouth. Archer watched as she picked herself up on the floor, and ran so fast. He had no idea what he was going to do to stop her. She wasn’t slowing down, and it would be risky to change to his human form in this situation. He growled as he turned his head in the direction that Zachary had vanished in.He would get him later, but now, he needed Cl

It’s been two days, and Clarissa wasn’t eating properly. She had been discharged from the hospital and was cooped in her apartment. The hotel manager had been kind enough to give her some days off, and she wasn’t about to take that for granted. But, still, she felt so hollow. Archer had not called even once. She had no idea where he was, and what he was doing. It drove her half mad. She had not expected that she would feel his absence so deeply. She had grown accustomed to being with him and the last two days didn’t feel like they belonged to her. If she knew where she would be able to meet him, she would have gone there. She knew that the hotel was the best place he could, but she wouldn’t go there. She didn’t have the courage. “God, where is this man?” Clarissa shot out in frustration. She dialed his number once more, and it went to voicemail. She slammed the phone on the nearby desk in frustration. She had no idea why this was going on like this. The thought of something happening to him almost crippled her. She wasn’t sure she would be able to take that if that were to happen. She took a deep breath and decided to leave the house. She needed to clear her head. So many things were happening that she didn’t understand. She didn’t know when she became so attached to Archer. She didn’t understand anything, and worse, he wasn’t here to listen to her worries, and pacify her like he always does. She grabbed her black coat from one of the doors, and then, walked out of the door. She wasn’t sure where she was headed, but anywhere was better than stewing at home, and wondering what was going on with her.She crossed the intersection and stepped into a park. There were kids aged ten to twelve running around and jus

The question hung in the hair between them. It was a good question, but once again, there was tension between them. Archer walked over to one of the benches at the park. It was evening now, and the kids and their families had all gone home. Clarissa watched him closely. He didn’t seem like his normal self. She walked slowly to him and sat down beside him. She wasn’t sure if she should hold his hands or not. It was a weird feeling because they had hugged so deeply moments ago.“I went home,” he said flatly.Clarissa sighed. That one statement didn’t seem to be coming from a place of happiness. What could have happened? Archer always spoke about his people and country with so much love. Then, why did he look so gloomy all of a sudden?Clarissa sighed, and she slowly enclosed his hands with hers. The electricity she felt was so intense, but she didn’t pull her hands back. She didn’t wish to, and she felt so safe sitting there, right beside him.“Tell me, what was the matter? You don’t l
