It’s been two days, and Clarissa wasn’t eating properly. She had been discharged from the hospital and was cooped in her apartment. The hotel manager had been kind enough to give her some days off, and she wasn’t about to take that for granted. But, still, she felt so hollow. Archer had not called even once. She had no idea where he was, and what he was doing. It drove her half mad. She had not expected that she would feel his absence so deeply. She had grown accustomed to being with him and the last two days didn’t feel like they belonged to her. If she knew where she would be able to meet him, she would have gone there. She knew that the hotel was the best place he could, but she wouldn’t go there. She didn’t have the courage. Clarissa stared at the TV blankly. It was nice to have a device at home that took your mind away from certain things, but she wasn’t feeling it so much this afternoon.Everywhere felt clogged, and she was on the brink of losing control of all her inhibitions.
“God, where is this man?” Clarissa shot out in frustration. She dialed his number once more, and it went to voicemail. She slammed the phone on the nearby desk in frustration. She had no idea why this was going on like this. The thought of something happening to him almost crippled her. She wasn’t sure she would be able to take that if that were to happen. She took a deep breath and decided to leave the house. She needed to clear her head. So many things were happening that she didn’t understand. She didn’t know when she became so attached to Archer. She didn’t understand anything, and worse, he wasn’t here to listen to her worries, and pacify her like he always does. She grabbed her black coat from one of the doors, and then, walked out of the door. She wasn’t sure where she was headed, but anywhere was better than stewing at home, and wondering what was going on with her.She crossed the intersection and stepped into a park. There were kids aged ten to twelve running around and jus
The question hung in the hair between them. It was a good question, but once again, there was tension between them. Archer walked over to one of the benches at the park. It was evening now, and the kids and their families had all gone home. Clarissa watched him closely. He didn’t seem like his normal self. She walked slowly to him and sat down beside him. She wasn’t sure if she should hold his hands or not. It was a weird feeling because they had hugged so deeply moments ago.“I went home,” he said flatly.Clarissa sighed. That one statement didn’t seem to be coming from a place of happiness. What could have happened? Archer always spoke about his people and country with so much love. Then, why did he look so gloomy all of a sudden?Clarissa sighed, and she slowly enclosed his hands with hers. The electricity she felt was so intense, but she didn’t pull her hands back. She didn’t wish to, and she felt so safe sitting there, right beside him.“Tell me, what was the matter? You don’t l
Clarissa’s fingers grazed the rare diamond necklace that sparkled like the sun as she used the other hand to stir the lasagna and broccoli concoction she wanted to eat for dinner.“I really can’t believe that he gave me all these?” She said more to herself than anyone else.A smile lingered on her lips as she remembered how Archer had given her the necklace a day before. “Close your eyes,” he had said softly. She had pouted sweetly, not wishing to be so obedient all of a sudden. She had to stress him slightly for leaving without informing her, and there was no other mischievous way that she could think to do it.“Come on, Clarissa,” he said softly.“I don’t want to. It’s so dark out. What if you…”His fingers clasped on her eyes, and she shut them on impulse, her smile going bigger. He just knew how to get what he wanted no matter how much she whined.“That’s cheating,” she whined.“Ah, that’s all fair then,” he teased.Clarissa couldn’t help the chuckle that escaped her lips. Archer
Sweat tickled down Clarissa’s hair and face. Her body jerked from left to right as her hands clutched at the thin mattress. Her eyes were shut tight and she could barely see what was in front of her. All she knew was that there was so much intensity and darkness that was around. The windows flapped and the lights had gone out, leaving just darkness to reign. Her lips formed an o, but no words were uttered. It was simply a relentless turning and jerking of the body.Suddenly, her hands went to her necklace, and then, went back to clenching the sheets. In minutes, the light glowed, illuminating the whole room in so many colors.Clarissa sat up in bed with a start, and the light died immediately. Her fluttered to the necklace, as her heart pounded erratically. What was that?It was the scariest dream she had ever had. The worst was that she wasn’t even sure it was a dream. It had felt so real to be one. It felt like it was a part of her soul and body. Like, someone was trying to tell he
The bark of a dog disrupted the trance that Clarissa had stepped into. Her fingers slightly uncurled from the knock, and then, she turned. It was like she didn’t see anything at first, and the overly bright area had turned dark. But as her eyes adjusted, she realized that there was a stream of light coming from somewhere around the area. The dog barked once more jolting her slightly. She looked down, and caught the blue eyes of a dog looking right at her, as she kept barking. Clarissa swallowed the sudden lump in her throat.“Tommy, what are you doing out there?” A voice echoed through the walls.Clarissa turned and found herself staring at a cop. He was looking at the dog, obviously unaware that someone else was in the ally with him. Clarissa swallowed hard as she looked right at him.The dog barked again. This time, its owner followed his gaze to Clarissa. She noted the frown on the cop’s face and watched with a sigh as he pointed the torch everywhere around her like he wanted to b
Archer looked at the sleeping beauty that was resting on his thigh with a sigh. One of his guards drove the car at a fast pace, so he was seated by her side. The way she turned and jerked was so painful to watch. He had tried waking her up to free her from the misery that she obviously felt, but nothing seemed to be working. She seemed to have been sucked into the unknown with the dream as her centering beacon. He definitely didn’t like the sound of that in the least. It seemed weird and slightly strange.Archer’s hands slowly touched her hair. All he wanted was to make her feel more at ease, and better. He didn’t want anything more. His fingers slowly untangled the knot in her hair. “No!” Clarissa screamed as she jerked awake and sat up in fright. Her eyes were everywhere at once, and Archer softly tried to pull her back to him, but she moved to the other side. He shifted slightly in his chair, and slowly he slid over to her, taking her right hand in his.“Calm down,” he said soft
Their hands were entwined as they walked into the house. Clarissa avoided looking back at him, and Archer could sense the awkwardness that streamed out of her.“Clarissa, I won’t do anything that you’re not ok with.” He assured her softly. She turned towards him then, her eyes soft as they rested on his. Her gaze was searching, and then, she smiled, and all the awkwardness that he felt vanished like it was never there, to begin with.“I’m fine, really? If I would be scared of anyone, it would definitely not be you. So, quit talking like that, or I might change my mind about the coffee, and give you just a pure milkshake instead.”Archer laughed so hard that tears streamed down his eyes. It was not that the joke was funny. It was just so lame that he considered it laughable, but how she had said was so much fun.Clarissa smirked at him when he was done. “I always told Stacey that I was born to be a comedian but she never agreed. Now, look at you,” he said softly. He cleaned the side of
