Chapter # 30
We reached the hospital and I am so exhilarated that I forgot that I am with the person I hate as I cling onto his arm. “Oh my God.” To my delight, I forget everything. My heart was beating fast with glee. I pushed the door open and saw Eugene sitting as he looked at me. I covered my mouth with my hand as tears brimmed in my eyes. I rushed to his side and hugged him and began to cry out loud. "Eugene!" I cried. Mother's eyes also teared up seeing us like this. I continued to cry out loud as he rubbed my back. Just how much agony you made me go through my brother... "Sophie..." he whispered. I pulled away and smiled at him. He smiled back and spoke faintly. "You stopped paying visits so I thought I would wake up and ask." I laughed a little and replied. "You should have told me before. I would have done it earlier." We both laughed a little as he wiped my tears. "You always cried... Now I am awake, I won't let you cry.. not anymore.." He assured me and I smiled. I felt saf

"Easy.." I breathe out, standing on the bed while holding the bedpost, trying to stay composed and not freak out. Sweat rolled down from my forehead as I was panting heavily. "Watch it!" I shouted as Christian turned to look at my scared form and narrowed his eyes at me in annoyance. "It's just a lizard." He sighed. "You know me, damn it! I am scared of any kind of insect!" I whined. "It's a reptile." He corrected me. "I don't care what it is! Just kill it already!" I just woke up and saw a lizard on the ground and my terror took over as I screamed, waking him up. And now he is looking for the lizard as I was standing on the bed in dread. "You have such a castle-like mansion can't you watch it out from insects!" I complained. He spares a glance at me and said. "It's not my fault. And a lizard is a reptile." His stressed face turned into a wicked smirk as he said. "I'll catch it and throw it at you." My eyes widened in horror as I shook my head no. His smirk grew wider.

I was about to enter our room but took a step back, "Samuel killed the Lizard. Isn't he?" He laughed. "Yeah, don't worry." I took a deep breath. Christian opened his mouth but I glared at him to shut him up. He smiled sweetly as I understood he must be planning something. "Don't you dare..." I threatened him. "What? I didn't plan anything." He said innocently. I narrowed my eyes at him and laid on my side to fall into a deep slumber. After a few moments, I felt something on me. I thought it was Christian's hand but it wasn't. I gulped and put my hand over my arm. I felt it's something and I caught it. My heart skipped a beat because I am holding something. I turned on the lamp and saw a cockroach as I screamed from the bottom of my lungs and threw it away as I fell on the ground. "What happened?" Christian asked, waking up from slumber. "I-it was a-a" I shuddered. "Cockroach?" He smirked as I realized that wasn't moving and it's a fake one. Tears brimmed in my eyes as

Eugene said as he was leaning on the column. Our eyes widened as we stood up. He walked closer. "Your husband told me everything." He hissed in anger. “And I mean everything.” It gave me chills when he emphasized on ‘everything’ it gave me a strange fright but when he said this, he glared impulsively at Mother who gulped in fear. “We will talk about it later, Mother.” He growled and turned to me. "You think I am that stupid that I can't see the pain behind your eyes." He said as his eyes flicker with intense sorrow. I looked down in shame. "Mother, Can you give me the keys to our house?" He asked. "Why?" Mother asked in horror. "I have no intention of staying in someone else's house." He said with venom. "Please don't go, Eugene." Mother clung onto his arm as he smiled sadly. Just then, Christian came, when he looked at Mother's crying form he asked, "What happened?" Eugene let out an empty laugh as he glared at Christian, "You. That's what happened." Eugene growled. Ch

After crying my heart out, I walked out and saw Christian sitting on the bed rubbing his temples. At this time, I felt immense loathe and abhor for him. “Christian.” I stood in front of him and gave him a detestable look. My heart skipped a beat just thinking about the consequences of my words. “Sophie, I am sorry.” Mentally preparing myself for the worst, I said with venom. "Do you remember, the day Eugene woke up, I said I wanted to talk to you?" He looked up at me as he narrowed his eyes at me. "You know what I wanted to say?" I said as a tear fell from my eye. He kept looking at me with his distress eyes as I said that staring deep into his murk eyes with resentment, "I want liberation. An eternal reprieve from this hell." I snarled as it took him some seconds to register what I was saying. Once, he comprehends my words, his eyes widened as he stood up and it felt like the intimidation which was hidden for the past weeks burst out with much force. “What?” My heart

Christian POV:- That woman is driving me insane with her tears. “What does she want?” At first, she defended me in front of everyone, shocking me to no extent. I never thought that she'll choose me over her brother. Instead of taking her brother's side, she took mine. And after that, she became angry with me, which filled me with the guilt of breaking her heart again. Her words broke my heart and when I came to the room she suddenly asked for a divorce. “Just what the hell is wrong with her?!” And once again, lost in anger and the inner demon of mine, I scared her. I was trying so hard to remove those apprehensions and once again I evoked them. Once again, she was crawling beneath my feet like a vulnerable being. Just how much it shattered my heart. “Her place is not there.” I don't want her to be like that. I broke my promise, I doubt that she'll ever trust me again. She provoked me to become what I am not. I didn't mean to hurt her intentionally. Even if I don't

"Sophie, listen.," I called her. She was awestruck but hummed in response, "You.. are sold to me… " I said as her eyes widened when she looked at me in disbelief. She looked at me as if she didn't comprehend what I have said, "But.. the reason for me marrying you is..." I took a deep breath as she was lost in obscurity. "My mother... loved you a lot... She always wanted me to marry you. It was her dying wish that I marry you..." "That's all I can tell you... for now.." I said looking away. My words hit her like a truck as if she was being crushed by the weight of my words. "No... Christian.. Tell me everything. After telling me this, Don't leave me in that dark anymore." She said in a low voice as she held my shirt and I kept looking away. "I don't have enough courage.." I whisper. Her trembling form produces a vague sound. "Please.." She pleaded as I didn't meet her gaze. "Did he sell me?" She asked with hate as I gave her a nod. I heard her mumbling 'bastard' but she

Sophie POV:- I went to the kitchen and leaned on the counter and began to let out deep breaths to calm myself. “What the hell happened?” Amid heartbreaking truths and the labyrinth of the mystifying realities which never occurred to me; Another strangely beautiful emotion aroused in me which I am not ready to accept. “What.. was it?” What I learned today was too much for me to bear, that's why I also didn't push him to tell me everything. But I don’t understand why Mother didn’t tell me, she should have told me. That’s why she tried to convince me to marry Christian but why can’t she tell me bluntly about it? Is there something more unbearable? “Honestly, I don’t think anything would be more horror-stuck than being sold to some rich person without being aware of it.” I muttered, shivering by the thought. “And this guy has known me ever since the beginning while I know absolutely nothing about him.” I added, shaking my head. Just how complicated our relationship is?

It's been 3 days since Christian is at home. He can finally walk, "1.. 2.. 3 Go!" He shouted as we both started running; starting the race from the main Gate to the Entrance of the hall. He was exuberant because he can walk again. But in the race, I, of course, being faster wins the race. I began to cheer in joy. "Damn.. you're fast," he said. I put my hand on my waist proudly. "I know, turtle." "Well, don't forget about the race of the rabbit and the tortoise." He retorted. "I'm not like that rabbit." I sneered. We then began to laugh, "Tell him Samuel, who won?" I asked Samuel who is currently the judge to see who wins. "Of course, you, Ma'am." He smiled. I beamed showing my victory and then we began to laugh. Then, we went to have lunch, as we were eating, Christian asked, "Did you talk to Eugene?" "Nah, Leave him for a while." I replied casually. "Aren't you worried about his whereabouts?" "He is at our old home and currently looking for a job, let's see how lon

Mother stated to which I replied back quickly, "I forgive him, Mother, please... He can't be alone." I pleaded, remembering about that night. How badly it affected him only to hear I want to leave. "He? You are still thinking about him. What about you Sophie? He defiled you!" "He is repentant and I forgive him! I signed the contract, I have legally given him all my consent" I said, shutting my eyes. I know Christian is too shocked upon hearing my words but it's true. Whenever I look at him he is filled with penitence. It's been almost three months since that day. It's enough, I am the one who gave him this authority so why would I go against him? I don't want him to suffer anymore. “He neglected the basic demand of our contract. Intercourse, Mother. He doesn’t touch, maintains his distance.” I whispered, hoping she might listen but to no avail. "You are still not going with him. Accept her as your wife and love her, Christian. And you are free to take her with you." She
